Alone on Thanksgiving Day. How do you cope?
DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
I hope you have fun. My holiday was going to be dinner with both my daughters at one of their places, but the one daughter has to work and I'm not hearing positive dinner plans. This means I will stay home and binge on Netflix while consuming 2 pizzas. The movie of choice is over 3 hours long and is called "The Irishman." Joe Peshi and DeNiro are in that one and it premiers the 28th. I actually have a 4 day weekend as my boss told me just today he is cutting my hours again and I am also off Friday.

There is a connection between spider solitaire and the argument of intelligent design.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
There must be a designer if we are talking about clothes, houses, or cars. One day I am walking along and I find a watch, but the analogy is so often used to explain something that would come along later. If it comes later I would not know it was a watch would I? The truth is that we humans are the designer.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
I knew fully by 2012 because it was the only thing that fit. The more I learned the more religion became a myth. Imagine that you believe in a magic man in the sky and his "book" that explained everything became a reality over 300 years after his death. This is why contemporary writers of his time never mention him at all. It is all made up.

I had a friend whose life was in a state of chaos.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
I try to avoid all stress and for the most part I am able to do so. The art of doing this is to realize that everything does not revolve around you. There is no "center of everything" except in your own mind.
Are Non Believers More Prone To Using Profanity?

DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
Ever consider that your best friend could be bragging to you? What he said could be true but he also could be bragging. I'm in love with a woman I have not actually met in person and friends who hear me talk about her say they know I am soon going to meet her. Why? I'm too poor to live in her world and she admits she cannot live in my state. Obviously that would never work out. I need someone I can kiss and hold and do so without the great strain I see in others daily.
What do you agnostics think about "co-parenting", two people interested in parenthood but not ...
DenoPenno comments on Nov 25, 2019:
What do you agnostics think? I'm not a judge. People have kids and then no longer live together the children still need to spend time with both parents. When this is not allowed their minds are poisoned. The many aspects of people's lives has to be taken into view as well as the best interests of the children.
What made you change from believer to non-believer?
DenoPenno comments on Nov 24, 2019:
I studied the bible and wanted to be a minster at an early age. My study produced evidence that the bible we have today came about some 300 years after the death of Jesus. That answers a lot of questions. What do you know today about someone who lived 300 years ago? Probably not very much.

I never ask a question about better citizens or worry about how to be a better citizen. Politics keeps that issue going all the time.
Should Stephen Miller be fired because he is a white Supremacist? [facebook.com]
DenoPenno comments on Nov 23, 2019:
Most certainly. Stephen Miller is abominable but he is exactly what Donald Trump wants. The rich have to convince the poor that the immigrant is the reason that they have no money. This idea keeps the poor working to supply the rich.
The Christian Right could be irrelevant by 2024

Atheists Call on Minnesota School District to Stop Letting Preacher Recruit Kids | Sarahbeth Caplin ...
DenoPenno comments on Nov 22, 2019:
If I had kids in that school I would do a phone call, then make a personal trip to the school to tell them to drop it all, and if that did not work let the FFRF do a lawsuit. Be loud and very vocal about this lawsuit so they can understand. Kids have enough going on without being told they are sinners and will burn in hell. This is illegal in public schools but still they try and find ways to get around it.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 22, 2019:
If you do not play along with their game you may not have a job. Try to think up some one liners to use if they try and trap you on religion. If they try and trap you maybe you can say you have never been actively involved in religion. IDK? Truth or lie it depends on how badly you need that job, and a great many today are wanting those who believe in the invisible man. My guess is that they think believers will have better character.

Great question from another site, Jesus was a carpenter what did he build ?
DenoPenno comments on Nov 22, 2019:
A strange paradox here. We have a man who is said to be a carpenter. Apparently this is the business of the father, Joseph, and it is passed on to the son. My first thoughts are how much wood was in Israel and how many things there were built out of wood 2000 years ago. Did people have wooden houses there at the time? Perhaps this word "carpenter" really means something else. Let us suppose that the translated word means "builder" or "laborer." This seems to fit as little better. The next thing is that he was a fisherman and his followers were mostly fishermen, and we have those gospel-verse times where they are all on fishing boats in the sea complete with scary storms and men afraid enough to where Jesus calmed the waters. (That sea of Galilee was a bitch that way.) Was this is the book just so Jesus could make his followers "fishers of men" and later walk on water? Who knows. As usual, we have contradictory stories. Beware! Storms on the sea of Galilee are coming in tonight so strongly that nighttime fishermen will be scared and also people on land in close proximity. The good news is that it is not a hurricane.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 21, 2019:
You are correct. It is a cop-out. If we cannot understand the mind of this wonderous god how would we ever know anything about his offer of salvation? Salvation from what, and why? The cop-out is designed so you will still believe when god allowed your mother to die. It was in his plan. It's also there to explain why god doesn't heal all the cancer stricken children at St. Jude. Only god knows these things and we poor humans have no idea of the mind of god. Does that make any sense? It certainly does not to me.There is no logic in god and no answers in Genesis.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 20, 2019:
Great. Now all that needs to be done is get Alex Jones and a few others who started and pushed this fallacy all for monetary gain, and possibly we can shut the mouths of few political liars. It is doubtful however because I saw Jones on a program where he claimed he has learned his lesson, then Jones and the other man both went off the deep end talking about germ-like creatures that enter your mind and take you over. I think they were supposed to be from outer space. As for the so-called "crisis actors" the biggest one is in the White House now. I'm sure he and Jones are friends, at least privately.
Sondland has thrown ALL of them right under the bus.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 20, 2019:
The problem with all of this is the constant double speak. Let me give and example from my work as those that I work with know I am anti-Trump. They will start talking gun nonsense or something because they seem to want you to believe we have a right to own any type of gun. When they do that I talk a different type of gun nonsense, but it is nonsense just like they are talking. They see this and smile. They know and they smile. This is the same thing that is going on with impeachment hearings. There is too much nonsense and people smile and say all of the illegal is actually legal and there was a perfectly good reason for doing it, if it was done, but I didn't see it done, hear it done, but I found out second hand, etc., etc. and they are only bringing these charges because they hate Trump and none of us should be here in the first place. The bottom line is that if none of this sways Moscow Mitch and the Trump GOP it will never go anywhere in the Senate. We are dealing with people who could actually watch someone get shot on Fifth Avenue and then claim that they didn't see anything.
I'll throw this out here like I did unsuccessfully on CL.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 19, 2019:
I have a view on this and simply cannot get others to see it. Imagine for a moment that you pray and want god to use this food for the nourishment of your body. Every prayer over food goes something along that line as you "thank god for the food." Now imagine you live in a world without refrigeration. Praying over food takes on a whole new meaning. Let this be nourishing and also do me no harm.

Feel alone?
DenoPenno comments on Nov 18, 2019:
Certainly I feel alone. My religious friend since age 12 acts like he thinks this is a phase I am going through. He often says in discussion "you know what it is." It seems to fly right over his head that knowing is why I no longer believe today. Others claim that at my age I should take up religion because "I don't have much time left." Ignorant people all think we are at a meeting some place "taking logic and reasoning" classes and even the most sincere of them all do not understand why "we just cannot accept the bible." Not a one of them understands that once you have seen behind the curtain you can no longer believe in the Wizard of Oz. Yes, I feel alone. For starters this wonderful book, the bible, came along some 300 years after the time of Jesus. No wonder it has so many mistakes.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 16, 2019:
I resist a lot of new ideas because to embrace them means it is no longer my world. An in home medical evaluation recently had the examiner telling me I am a very angry person, and she thought it was because of my ex-wife. I said, no, I am angry with those who tell me I have to be angry with my ex-wife. They do this because they are secretly racists. Let me put this another way on my perceived anger. MeTV has a lot of older programs that interest many people. I like MeTV and I liked "Happy Days." At my age today I am aware that my happy days have come and gone. They are most likely not coming back again. I don't think a councilor or therapist can make me see this any differently. This is the "anger" that you think you see.

We are fast entering into an era when many of us will have wrong answers because of current nonsense. A recent poll showed that 47 % of people claim we have no proof of what to believe. This is what Trumps and the Kochs hoped for as they continue to dismantle everything. Before long we will be said to be that "Christian Nation" that so many have claimed from the beginning. DenoPenno comments on Nov 11, 2019:
One reason I find that common sense is not common is that both sexes think differently. To simplify that statement let me point out that in early life both play with dolls. The male doll is usually called and Army man while the female doll might be a Barbie. Variations of this continue on with time. Then we all have to realize that it is harder to get out of the house and mingle with others as we get older. This is the real key to finding a possible partner.

Dating when you get older is harder because you are more careful of almost anything. As a young man I could easily say there are plenty of fish in the sea but I was careless in doing so and did not even know I was careless. As an older man I have a set amount of bills and property, etc. with just enough money (barely) to make this work for me. I'm not likely to take a drastic measure of any kind just to meet someone. As a younger man I would have done that and not have cared. Today a picnic sounds nice but it is harder to even find someone who wants to go on a picnic. I can't even find people at the local Senior center because they all say the pledge, pray over meals, and are hung up on "fake news." Spare me, please!

DenoPenno comments on Nov 9, 2019:
Intelligent design. Sometimes you cannot even find that in a house or a car. As for god the creator, we all know that he liked animals and liked them so much that he wanted to see some of them eat others for food. It was just sport to him. Of course, he also liked to smell the savor of their burned bodies once man came onto the scene. If you think the above is funny just imagine how idiotic I would sound if I argued logically for some sort of intelligent design. It would be like begging to be believed, and for what? Why do people do this?

If they come back again and are normal stupid people who want to believe in myth embrace them and the experience. Lazerus never said a single word about being dead and neither did Jesus. I wonder why that is? As for Jesus being reurrected or saying anything, we have the ramblings of Saul of Tarsus and some books written about 70 AD that appear to try and convince the Jews that they killed their Messiah. They could better be controlled that way, and I think Saul was in on this with them.

I don't see many battle lines of atheist vs. religionist but those thoughts do go back and forth and sometimes up and down. This would be the nitty gritty of agnosticism and atheist belief. What I see more of is an extreme dislike and even hatred between liberal and conservative. As a liberal I sometimes think that conservatives believe none of us deserve anything at all while most liberals want everything to be easier and better for us all. In human relationships I see too much drama while in politics I see way too much anger and ignorance.
I could use some feedback.

I know of no new suggestions but I do hear your words and know your situation. I'm 73 and went to a Senior Center with a friend of mine. People inside all talk about "fake news" and they have to pray before meals and they also say the pledge. Oh, mother of Pearl, spare me this nonsense. I cannot live in this sort of world at all.
Was thinking of a spectrum not of belief but more about how we proceed in the moment.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
You have good points all and I understand where you are coming from. Others either are too cut and dried in their opinions or they do not listen well. One example in passing was the woman in Walmart who knew my daughter and saw her buying a pregnancy test. Immediately the woman asked "are you pregnant?" I told my daughter when she gave me this story that she should have explained to this woman that this is a test to check and see. That's what it is, and what it means. Ignorant people.
Are there songs that have distinct religious messages or even religious overtones that you like ...
DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
The message that "Spirit in the Sky" always had for me is that regardless of religious beliefs we all knew there was a "spirit in the sky." Even though I liked the song the day came that I no longer believed it.

DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
When I was a security guard I often got good tips and sometimes even some food. The group that was doing this was Muslim. The man always paid his camping fee and told me to keep the extra as my tip. He was a nice man. He and his family were very polite.
This is a rant about A frustrating situation that has arisen.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
You will find that others always want to focus on her cheating whether she did or not. They just cannot let that go. Idiots will try to convince you she might have even been sneaking out at night while you both are supposed to be sleeping. "Unequally joked" (sic) is something that religion will put upon you and this and her parents intervention is why she was always upset at your lack of belief. Certainly they do not want the child raised as atheist. This is why you were cut off. Things like this happen all the time, sadly.

The question of the so-called "fine-tuning" of the universe and its basic constants is one of the ...
DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
Try my reasoning. I bought a new Chevy yesterday and brought it home from the dealer. After I finish with a lot of fine tuning it might be a good car. The above is imaginary but it shows that fine tuning arguments for our earth and the universe have to be made by those who embrace evolution in some form. Since we know this is not true, "fine tuning" does not hold up.
Unlike the plantations of antiquity, the modern-day African American church is the new plantation.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 5, 2019:
The one thing I hate to keep hearing is that "it is because of slavery that the African black man learned of the one true god." I'll swear that I have heard that again in commentary since Donald Trump was elected. This is white supremacy at its finest.

You have to have the means and the will. Ditch willpower. It is all in The Will.

Gun Violence is a Global Problem... Everywhere someone is Gunned Down... [msn.com]
DenoPenno comments on Nov 4, 2019:
Gun control will not prevent gun violence. Video games with shooting was encouraged to create volunteers for the military. Not sure how that worked out for the government but the gaming industry grew. Parents with no values or discipline step in to do and allow anything for their millennial. Fads like "the knockout game" come along and shooting copycats just know they can kill more than those at Columbine. We need a little re-education. If any government wants real gun control the thing they would do is make ammo available only for a select few. A cartridge can only be re-loaded a certain number of times.
I sincerely have a hard time comprehending what "spiritual" means.
DenoPenno comments on Nov 4, 2019:
Being spiritual means anything you want it to be. That's why I am not "spiritual."
