A man at my workplace came down with flu, recovered, then took off until this pandemic comes into better control because he does not want to give it to his invalid mother. A girl at my workplace thought she had the virus and her doctor sent her for testing. They would not even test her and sent her back. She does seem very fearful to an extreme. Many of us have our own "remedies" for lots of things. I do my own version of cowboy nose blowing and I also us hydrogen peroxide in my ears. I also drink 6 oz. of aloe vera juice a day mixed with other ingredients. A friend of mine says "this will not help you with COVID-19" I never told him that any of it had anything to do with COVID-19. He only assumed so out of his own fear.

With the ministry pushed at me from my teen years, I rebelled and got away from that idea but had a lifetime of much guilt and grief because of it. Many years went by with these bad feelings. Somewhere about 2011 or so I discovered Jerry DeWitt on You Tube. He seemed to be telling my story and then for the first time the "scales fell off my eyes" as the Buybull says about Saul of Tarsus. These days I am sort of a preacher in reverse and I operate on logic and evidence.

A person can use the cosmos to claim everything was made just right for us and try to claim a creator. These days I use things like my shoes. Animals do not have shoes and I have them, so they must have been made just for me. Once I understand how others all have different shoes with different sizes and all, I might have to change that idea into "many shoes." This would mean to me that a person using the "made for us" idea to explain a god should start believing in "many gods." Survival of the fittest explains it all on our planet. First to understand is that anyone can sue for any reason. It happens all the time. Can a family sue a church if a person went to a service and got covid? The person who got covid went voluntarily I suppose. Proving just when and where they got this infection would be hard to do. Maybe impossible. Can they sue the pastor? You can always sue somebody but the real issue here is does the church actually own the building. If not and they pay a landlord it would be in his best interest to lock and bar the doors in these bad times of covid so that he, the landlord, could not be sued later.

Instead of this approach try teaching your young children critical thinking. Do this through biblical talk as well as other ways. Trying to turn them is going to come back and bite you in the ass. Critical thinking religiously might involve asking them if certain things in the bible have ever happened before, and if they think it might happen again. Examples would be talking snakes, talking donkeys, bones of a prophet bringing the dead back to life, people unharmed inside a fiery furnace, etc. this approach can be a sort of bible study. In the end your children will have to make up their own minds. When I look back it was really my parents who decided I was going to be the greatest evangelist who ever lived. They did this after I showed an interest in god and religion. I'm sure this is a factor in my becoming atheist later on. It was a belief in nonsense that finally got me into real critical thinking. This happened because I investigated. Teach young children how to investigate.

I can agree with your every word. One of my long time friends that I met around age 12 or 13 remains religious and recently he was talking to me on how he is so comforted by reading in Daniel about the fiery furnace and those inside unhurt and untouched. I'm thinking it is time for that eye roll again. My mind asks how would anyone ever take this as being real in any way. I suppose it represents his belief that Jesus protects him. Again, my mind asks "in what way, and protection from what?" (Yes, friends. I attribute my well being to a doodilly do, or you can call it whatever you want to.)
