I don't watch too much reality TV shows but have seen a number of them dealing with the after life ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 14, 2020:
How about haunted mobile homes? Maybe they haven't been around long enough for ghosts to like them. Sorry, I should have said spirits. Yes, where do they cross over to? Those who know claim it is the other side. OK, the other side of what? Why would furniture move when the spirits have no bodies? Oh, it is energy. Let's capture some of them and put them to work. We would have free labor. Ever notice that these spirits can bite or scratch you? They claim this is true but they have no body, no teeth, and no fingers or nails. What is going on here? The truth is that it is Reality TV and some people simply love it. Some swear that it really is true and it goes back for centuries. The problem is that nonsense like this has been debunked for many, many years now and the scammers keep coming back with it. None of this has to do with life after death.

Why are atheist so obsessed by religion?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 14, 2020:
Right on. As an atheist my obsession with religion is that I came out of religion. My parents took me in that direction by age 12 and I also had earlier experiences that made me aware of gods and religion. I studied to be a preacher and then realized years later that it is all false. There is nothing supernatural. Only things that humans do not understand. This means I am not convinced on many levels - no spacemen, nessie, or bigfoot, etc. If you think otherwise then prove them. You can't do it. I do not trust those who think there are no gods but believe in aliens, etc. This would be like someone who thought pixies lived in their shoes. I do not believe people like Bush who said he and Laura were praying for us. How so? They do not even know us. Praying over a bunch of prayer requests written on paper is just more nonsense. If god knew the needs in advance why did he not just take care of them? Why would anyone have to pray over them? My obsession with religion is kind of like this. To be a good mechanic you need to know a lot about cars. If you know nothing you are just making a claim and you are not a mechanic.

God is not necessary for religion.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 13, 2020:
I think you are really onto something here and for those who do not understand it you have just explained Deism very well. Deists did not have science as we do today and like others they needed and wanted answers. Their god created everything and set it in motion, then disappeared. This is because they knew from the beginning that there was no god there to interact with. It makes them much smarter than others today in my opinion. Cut to "2001: A Space Odyssey." Suppose that HAL the computer had no name. The film would not have made as much sense and would not have been as interesting. If I put this back into religion I can see why people would want a personal god. You cannot prove him in any way but the story becomes more interesting and maybe your religion has features that another one does not. This is why there are so many religious claims in the world. It is your invisible man who provides all the answers. To be in control you have to have all the answers.

Why do most humans love a religion?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The biggest reason I can think of is that we all like to have answers. As non-believers we know that nobody has all the answers, but you do secretly feel superior to others if you think you are smarter. Religious people seem to be deluded into thinking they have most of the answers and god will provide other answers later in heaven.
Christian “Prophetess”: Heaven Has a “Portal” So Your Dead Relatives Can See You | Hemant ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I learned this in my Finis Jennings Dake bible studies. He didn't say it the way I'm gonna explain it, and I will refrain from listing scriptures. Either heaven isn't that far up or you get great eyesight once you die. Anyone who ever watched Flash Gordon should understand it. Not only can you look down and guide your living relatives, you can also look down and see those in hell. I'm not sure if that is to laugh at them or god doesn't want you to get any ideas. How would you be happy in heaven seeing your relatives in hell? As for your dead relatives guiding you here on earth, that is a real stretch. I'm alive and you are dead so why are you guiding me? You should have guided yourself a bit better. Also, these guiding relatives are angels now and they have wings. Apparently this is bird-like wings with feathers. Every time some of my relatives find a feather they know the dead relative has been around them. (I'm not kidding here.) It ticks them off when I say they should have looked for a bird.

Less fear of hell?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I have no fear of hell at all. This comes from my approach to scriptures and where they came from along with when we actually got the bible as we know it today. If you study this you can see it was ever changing from the 4th century until now. The wonderful apologists keep trying to explain everything for the modern world and their views change also. I just do not buy it. My Buybull daze is over.
It's sometimes strange to look back on one's self in the past, particularly the distant past.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The song "Imagine" is a very good example here. Most people do not see it but they love the song. Maybe they just imagine "no war" and don't see the rest. Within myself I see too much change in too short a time. Some things just within the last 4 years or so. It is so uncanny. I see things differently now than when I was with my ex. Not anything that would have saved that union but things that might have slowed the inevitable down some. I see changes in outright belief of mine over time, and also some in just a short few years. I learn more and it is enlightening. Sometimes you realize that something you took as fact for a long time is not fact at all. Suddenly you wake up to this and wonder how you ever had it wrong to start with. Living alone allows me this and I see that life is quite an adventure and a development.

The best thing about being agnostic is knowing (as much as it is humanly possible) there is no hell.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course there is no hell. That concept came out of the confusion and misdirected developments presented in religious writings and scripture. If I do not believe these writings to be valid from any source why would I believe in a hell? Many people go around saying "yeah, but there still could be a god." Why would they want one? Are there people going around saying "yeah, there still could be a hell?" Once again, why would you want one? Is there life after death? IDK. Is your food still there on your plate once you have eaten it? How will it be reborn? You may take this as comedy but I am answering some very serious questions.

Of course they do. This is because it is all about money and wealth, especially mineral wealth. Americans are played back and forth by both parties and so is the rest of the world. Just when you have had enough of it from one party the other one steps in to let you believe you are actually getting your treasured way of life back. Both parties work for the controllers and one is more extreme than the other. Currently we have a wave of "god's last stand" in which Evangelicals agg this all on in hopes of bringing about the second coming. If Jesus returns through our border with Mexico he will never be recognized. Religious hypocrites are falling right in there with our controllers. None of this is about you or your welfare in any way.

Not that I'm aware of. Your neighbor might be a murderer but then maybe they are not.

What is circumcision for? In areas of the world where there is not water enough to wash the male member as it should be, this practice has benefits. For most of us in this modern world today it has little or none. When it is done to women and young girls it is nothing but mutilation. A crime that should have severe punishments. There was a time in America when male circumcision was pushed as a means of preventing boys from masturbation. Not only was god concerned with this but so were parents and a man named Kellogg. I do not believe, however, that he put foreskins in his cereal. Just a nasty rumor.

Hi.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 8, 2020:
It is that way in my workplace as well and here is how I handle the pretense. To start with I do not talk religion. When it does come up and gets to that level I tell everyone that I used to be religious and I studied to be a Pentecostal preacher, however, I am no longer religious. That usually ends it all. When it fails and some idiot asks me why I no longer believe I will correct them by saying "you are putting words in my mouth, as I said I am no longer religious." Since none of these people are twice or more a week church people who cannot wait for the church house doors to open, this usually does the trick. The bottom line is that they are people just like you, and this applies to most people. I also live and work in small town areas. I currently have no social life but you should not allow others to limit yours.

Trump has killed an Iranian general on Iraqi soil and says it was a needed action for our safety. Next we see Iran replacing this slain general with another that Soleimani himself had trained. Is there any difference? Different man, same objectives. On the American side of this we see the Trump base pushing the fact that Trump is protecting us and he really believes "America first." What I see is a distraction from impeachment and beating the drum of false patriotism for the 2020 re-election. Trump is ready to trade American lives for votes. Watch the news objectively and you will learn that 8 years and more of foreign policy has been removed. Things are getting worse now because of this. Trump and his handlers think they have done a good job but the man should never have been POTUS. We are in the grip of a terrorist regime and nobody sees a way out. I expect stupid replies to my words talking about everybody else and everything else to try and defend Trump. That is not how it is done. You cannot defend your friend by talking about other people. You cannot defend your wife by talking about other women. If you see what has happened here you cannot defend Trump by talking anything in the past. Some go so far as to say that my words show my hypocrisy. In what way? In the past someone told me that "I am hiding behind my military service." WTF. How in the hell do you do that?

The apologists try to hide this and explain it away differently. Then you have this all knowing perfect god trying to send you to a hell that he created just for you if you do not believe in him. These are two of the reasons I do not want to be singing his praises forever and ever.

Happy Thursday! Back to reality time. Today's question is: When did you last sing to yourself?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
I use imagination and the songs are all there right inside my head.
Courage could be contagious in the Senate [bostonglobe.com] We can hope
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
The Senate needs courage to break with the Orange Clown.
Michael Bloomberg.. He was republican as as mayor and now democrat as president candidate?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
He has been back and forth on political party platforms. I'm not even sure he is wanting to win. He says he is putting large sums of money into this to try and divert people away from Trump. Either this will be true, or it might end up just being the opposite. It is a wait and see.
When I saw Trump on stage making fun of an handicapped person I couldn’t believe it.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
I fully agree. Trump on stage mocking that handicapped reporter would have just about ended it all for anyone else running. Why not end it for Trump?
“I’m not perfect, I’m just forgiven” is the most enabling statement ever made! Christians...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
I agree with every word there, David. The "just forgiven" angle is a license to continue doing as you want. It teaches you nothing. Over the years I have developed a word for church. I call it "crutch" and it appears that is exactly what it is.
Franklin Graham Reminds Jimmy Carter That God Kills Gays | Michael Stone
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Maybe Graham thinks that Carter is gay. Life is amazing. Fallwell used to think that cartoon characters were gay.
Hello fellow Humanists, What are you looking forward to accomplishing, participating, or simply ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
What am I looking forward to in 2020? Fist of all, these are only numbers. What changed? Around my place some neighbor fired off a noise cannon just after midnight when 2020 was officially here. Why? The older I get the more I try to figure this all out. When I was younger I was a part of it. Today I wonder why. For New Years resolutions I'm going to try and not eat as much and maybe conserve air by just breathing half as much. I have this theory that older people eat more because deep down inside of them they realize that time to eat is running out.
Does god exist?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Only if you believe the bible and other scriptural writings and accept them as evidence. Otherwise there is no proof of gods of any kind.
After watching several YouTube videos of Christopher Hitchens, I have now concluded that it is a ...
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
Yes, condoms are far more worse than AIDS. Everyone must know this by now. Also in Africa the belief is that you can be cured of AIDS and HIV if you have unprotected sex with a young virgin. To hold these beliefs in any form is to be engaged in genocide.
A GOP legislator in Washington called for a 51st state led by a military Christian government
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
How exactly would we have a military Christian government? Fascism is not my thing and it is not desirable.
What gave you joy in 2019?
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
My 2019 joy was in being alive and learning more about computers, working on my own 3 units, and updating constantly. I have learned that all is on the Internet if you know how to look and I continue to watch TV and movies as well as news from all over the world. Other than the above I work a few short hours daily and then come home to hide behind closed doors until time to leave the next time. I'm off work New Years Day and am having a few drinks as I write this.
I was raised on the narcotizing and stupefying cool-aid of racism, broader ethnocentrism, religion, ...
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
I agree with your every word and it took a while for me to see the errors of my youth. So many today still want to drink the cool-aid. They do not think we deserve better or that we should do better. The solution for so many is to deny anything that would help us all so they only want to help the few. Deny anything to do with a women's movement. Deny anything to do with LGBTQ people. Deny any program that would help us all as a society and make things better for all. Let's give all the benefits to the top 1 percent and just be happy. That's not for me and it should not be for you. The problem is that you have to attack them or they will never see the vision.
This post does not pretend to represent a scientific analysis; it's just a conversation starter.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
Do I have depression? Yes. Most people in the modern world today would have. I deal with it in my own way without harming anyone and I cannot exactly tell you what it feels like. This is because we are all different. The principals that I live by are those that work for me without harming anyone else. My reality may not be your reality. I can tell you exactly how I feel and even if we agree we may not be saying the same thing. This is the nature of reality.
Are you truely agnostic or an athiest in hiding?
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
Believe it all your way if you like. I am an agnostic atheist.
Who has noticed in the last day or so there has been a resurgence of Islam bashing.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
This is because Trump blames Iran for what is happening in Iraq at our embassy. Rather than an increase of Islam bashing it appears to me as a resurgence.
The hospital clerk asked my religion before a medical procedure.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
In that case the answer is yes. This is because they are asking for a religion and you are saying you do not have one.
What are some of the things you can think of that were originally answered by religion that have ...
DenoPenno comments on Dec 31, 2019:
The virgin birth was always a beauty. From time to time there was even "scientific" articles to prove that it was possible. Of course, in my time I have heard grownups in discussion about how it was impossible for a woman to have puppies despite what the National Enquirer article said. Thunder is actually bowling going on in heaven. This was back when bowling was more popular.
Everybody wants something different.
DenoPenno comments on Dec 30, 2019:
I see the point but with Donald Trump there is no best to hope for. He is not POTUS material, period. As for your airplane pilot, I have never wondered about them in any way when I was on a plane.
