What do you see as being the best approaches to normalizing agnostism, atheism etc?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 18, 2020:
One big start on this would be to get religion the hell out of politics. This is the big American problem.
What do you do when expected to participate in public religious ceremonies such as prayer?

I agree with your every word here. We know that Trump was not "the chosen one" and that there are no gods choosing anyone. The problem is that the powers that be want you to believe all this nonsense so they can use us to gain more wealth and even make war if they have to. All of us should wake up and I also mean the religious ones. Resist this in any ways possible.

Is the USA heading for a civil war?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 18, 2020:
Is the USA heading for a civil war? Lots of Trumpers claim they would take to the streets with their guns for Trump in a heartbeat. The real question is would this just be ignored by law enforcement or the military? If it was taken as serious insurrection it might not be as simple as the kool aid drinkers think.

Who’s your favorite scientist and why?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Most likely Carl Sagan. I first got a copy of his Demon Haunted World back when I still believed in spirits and found out the book was scientific and really different. I could hardly put it down and I'm convinced that Sagan had some hidden influence with me when I finally came out as atheist. I saw him as a scientist who made sense.

I don't get it and I don't see it. By comparison I have a murdered grandchild and his mom and many others think he is in heaven now and he is a guardian angel. Since biblical angels have wings, every time the family sees bird feathers around they think he is visiting and watching over them. This is a true story.

Like most of us here, I really hate the chump they're calling president.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Don't you respect Donald Chump? He's saving us money by not appointing new heads of departments when those people have been fired or have resigned. He doesn't need them and can handle everything himself. The GOP knows this and that is why they stand behind him on it all. What I don't get is that he has a plan that will eliminate ISIS in 30 days. Why has that plan never been put into practice? Then he told everyone at the UN that he had done more for America in 2 short years than any other president in history. They laughed at him but Donnie did not think it was a joke. News media took the laughter out later when they reported the story, but all is fine and you should refinance your house. Maybe do a second mortgage. Donnie also has some great statewide health programs for you. Things you used to get free are now fairly cheap. If China is paying the tariffs why are the goods costing us more now? Take that China! Just an angry non-Trumper on a rampage here.

Thoughts on the Bernie/Warren kerfuffle?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
I feel that it is a media provoked misunderstanding designed to discredit both Warren and Bernie. Keep in mind that the DNC wants nothing radical or too far left and even had Obama tell us so. In this sort of distraction remember that Trump asked the Ukraine for dirt on Biden and not Warren or Bernie. This tells me that both Trump and the DNC know in advance who Trump's 2020 rival will be. Look deeply inside this and you can see the anger that people had when Trump was elected and know also that it is still there on both sides. We have been betrayed. Isn't it time to refinance your home? Use every app that comes along and try a second mortgage. Is it all about money?
How do people feel about pulling good guy (or good person) deeds as an atheist?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Good guy or good person deeds. The key here is that if you do these things do not talk about them. It has nothing to do with gods or rewards and everything to do with you as a person. Secretly doing good deeds makes you a better person. Helping someone is good. Giving away all that you have makes you an idiot, so be smart and beware.
I just can't stand this anymore.

The structure of marriage is heavily based upon religion; in the sight of god, till death, what god ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I did my own divorce over 2 years ago. I was lucky because in 12 years of marriage we had no children. The core of marriage belief comes form religion. While people claim you should support your wife and children the basic marriage concept is out of the bible with a woman as property. I understand fully when women do not want to change their names. What about Mrs. Smith? Is that your name now and your identity? It is a poor name that only honors the male in the relationship. Again, this comes out of ownership. Marry me and remain whoever you are.
Who in here has actually had what they would consider a successful long distance relationship?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I don't think that would work for me. The closest thing that would work for me is to be in a relationship where they live with me on the weekend and then go to a city to work 5 days before it happens again. I had that once and it worked fairly well until I discovered that she was slowly moving clothes into my income tax drawer. Imagine if she lived with me full time.
Depressed Agnostics?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
Certainly it is correct. I have less friends because of my non-belief. This means I am likely to not be as involved in activities that many others share. There is also the fact that if you are an active church goer more people appear to readily agree with you. I'm talking about your group only. Am I depressed? Hell yeah! It comes with the territory and does not get better. You simply learn to live with it. If anyone is thinking therapy I strongly advise you seek out a non-believing therapist. Otherwise it is just a big waste of time. BTW, I am my own therapist.

Cut to today when preachers and everybody us that scripture reference to mean "be a good boy and pay your taxes." So much for modern cherry picking.

We would have free labor. Ever notice that these spirits can bite or scratch you? They claim this is true but they have no body, no teeth, and no fingers or nails. What is going on here? The truth is that it is Reality TV and some people simply love it. Some swear that it really is true and it goes back for centuries. The problem is that nonsense like this has been debunked for many, many years now and the scammers keep coming back with it. None of this has to do with life after death.

Why are atheist so obsessed by religion?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 14, 2020:
Right on. As an atheist my obsession with religion is that I came out of religion. My parents took me in that direction by age 12 and I also had earlier experiences that made me aware of gods and religion. I studied to be a preacher and then realized years later that it is all false. There is nothing supernatural. Only things that humans do not understand. This means I am not convinced on many levels - no spacemen, nessie, or bigfoot, etc. If you think otherwise then prove them. You can't do it. I do not trust those who think there are no gods but believe in aliens, etc. This would be like someone who thought pixies lived in their shoes. I do not believe people like Bush who said he and Laura were praying for us. How so? They do not even know us. Praying over a bunch of prayer requests written on paper is just more nonsense. If god knew the needs in advance why did he not just take care of them? Why would anyone have to pray over them? My obsession with religion is kind of like this. To be a good mechanic you need to know a lot about cars. If you know nothing you are just making a claim and you are not a mechanic.

God is not necessary for religion.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 13, 2020:
I think you are really onto something here and for those who do not understand it you have just explained Deism very well. Deists did not have science as we do today and like others they needed and wanted answers. Their god created everything and set it in motion, then disappeared. This is because they knew from the beginning that there was no god there to interact with. It makes them much smarter than others today in my opinion. Cut to "2001: A Space Odyssey." Suppose that HAL the computer had no name. The film would not have made as much sense and would not have been as interesting. If I put this back into religion I can see why people would want a personal god. You cannot prove him in any way but the story becomes more interesting and maybe your religion has features that another one does not. This is why there are so many religious claims in the world. It is your invisible man who provides all the answers. To be in control you have to have all the answers.

Why do most humans love a religion?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The biggest reason I can think of is that we all like to have answers. As non-believers we know that nobody has all the answers, but you do secretly feel superior to others if you think you are smarter. Religious people seem to be deluded into thinking they have most of the answers and god will provide other answers later in heaven.
Christian “Prophetess”: Heaven Has a “Portal” So Your Dead Relatives Can See You | Hemant ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I learned this in my Finis Jennings Dake bible studies. He didn't say it the way I'm gonna explain it, and I will refrain from listing scriptures. Either heaven isn't that far up or you get great eyesight once you die. Anyone who ever watched Flash Gordon should understand it. Not only can you look down and guide your living relatives, you can also look down and see those in hell. I'm not sure if that is to laugh at them or god doesn't want you to get any ideas. How would you be happy in heaven seeing your relatives in hell? As for your dead relatives guiding you here on earth, that is a real stretch. I'm alive and you are dead so why are you guiding me? You should have guided yourself a bit better. Also, these guiding relatives are angels now and they have wings. Apparently this is bird-like wings with feathers. Every time some of my relatives find a feather they know the dead relative has been around them. (I'm not kidding here.) It ticks them off when I say they should have looked for a bird.

Less fear of hell?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I have no fear of hell at all. This comes from my approach to scriptures and where they came from along with when we actually got the bible as we know it today. If you study this you can see it was ever changing from the 4th century until now. The wonderful apologists keep trying to explain everything for the modern world and their views change also. I just do not buy it. My Buybull daze is over.
It's sometimes strange to look back on one's self in the past, particularly the distant past.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The song "Imagine" is a very good example here. Most people do not see it but they love the song. Maybe they just imagine "no war" and don't see the rest. Within myself I see too much change in too short a time. Some things just within the last 4 years or so. It is so uncanny. I see things differently now than when I was with my ex. Not anything that would have saved that union but things that might have slowed the inevitable down some. I see changes in outright belief of mine over time, and also some in just a short few years. I learn more and it is enlightening. Sometimes you realize that something you took as fact for a long time is not fact at all. Suddenly you wake up to this and wonder how you ever had it wrong to start with. Living alone allows me this and I see that life is quite an adventure and a development.

The best thing about being agnostic is knowing (as much as it is humanly possible) there is no hell.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course there is no hell. That concept came out of the confusion and misdirected developments presented in religious writings and scripture. If I do not believe these writings to be valid from any source why would I believe in a hell? Many people go around saying "yeah, but there still could be a god." Why would they want one? Are there people going around saying "yeah, there still could be a hell?" Once again, why would you want one? Is there life after death? IDK. Is your food still there on your plate once you have eaten it? How will it be reborn? You may take this as comedy but I am answering some very serious questions.

Just when you have had enough of it from one party the other one steps in to let you believe you are actually getting your treasured way of life back. Both parties work for the controllers and one is more extreme than the other. Currently we have a wave of "god's last stand" in which Evangelicals agg this all on in hopes of bringing about the second coming. If they look at things like this more closely maybe they could find some of those missing children from our southern border. Kids that were separated from their parents and then secretly "adopted" and records were sealed.
Too sad to be funny.

There are memes of him holding weapons and telling you to enlist. Some of the GOP even wants this asshole to run for president. If the Trump's keep messing with Iran what they had better run for is their lives.

I do not need religion. I got into it because my parents found it and they were so lost. They put it on me and wanted me to be a preacher. It was all misguided and caused me a lot of pain. Finally I woke up.

It's a shame but we have to have that war to unite America for Trump in 2020. The damage he is doing can be passed off that he is "thinking of America first" but his supporters are too dumb to see what he uniting. He has now destroyed over 8 years of foreign policy.
Hi.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 8, 2020:
It is that way in my workplace as well and here is how I handle the pretense. To start with I do not talk religion. When it does come up and gets to that level I tell everyone that I used to be religious and I studied to be a Pentecostal preacher, however, I am no longer religious. That usually ends it all. When it fails and some idiot asks me why I no longer believe I will correct them by saying "you are putting words in my mouth, as I said I am no longer religious." Since none of these people are twice or more a week church people who cannot wait for the church house doors to open, this usually does the trick. The bottom line is that they are people just like you, and this applies to most people. I also live and work in small town areas. I currently have no social life but you should not allow others to limit yours.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 7, 2020:
Trump has killed an Iranian general on Iraqi soil and says it was a needed action for our safety. Next we see Iran replacing this slain general with another that Soleimani himself had trained. Is there any difference? Different man, same objectives. On the American side of this we see the Trump base pushing the fact that Trump is protecting us and he really believes "America first." What I see is a distraction from impeachment and beating the drum of false patriotism for the 2020 re-election. Trump is ready to trade American lives for votes. Watch the news objectively and you will learn that 8 years and more of foreign policy has been removed. Things are getting worse now because of this. Trump and his handlers think they have done a good job but the man should never have been POTUS. We are in the grip of a terrorist regime and nobody sees a way out. I expect stupid replies to my words talking about everybody else and everything else to try and defend Trump. That is not how it is done. You cannot defend your friend by talking about other people. You cannot defend your wife by talking about other women. If you see what has happened here you cannot defend Trump by talking anything in the past. Some go so far as to say that my words show my hypocrisy. In what way? In the past someone told me that "I am hiding behind my military service." WTF. How in the hell do you do that?
It's Tuesday! For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 7, 2020:
I am grateful for being alive. I am also grateful that at age 18 I wanted to get away from my parents and I joined the U. S. Army. It is that experience and many things learned there that molded me and changed my opinions in many ways. Without the military I would probably have remained a prejudiced prick.

God is that "thing" that, to the best of your knowledge, is at the top of your hierarchy of values.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
I have no hierarchy of values. I watch our laws and society and then decide on my own what is correct. I can say that the world is scary and so are a great amount of the people that live here.

How unwise to be a Christian.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
All the denominations think they are the right one and believers have no problems with that. I find it amusing. As for hell, that is the place god created for you if you do not believe in him. Wonderful isn't he?
A close friend of mine goes back and forth between extreme antithiesm and Pascal's Wager.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
And you are correct. This perfect god of the bible wanted to get humans started on the earth through a process called incest. If you believe Adam and Eve it could be no other way. Then he decided to destroy us because of sin. WTF is that? Later, through Noah and sons god once again would try to populate earth through incest once again. The apologists try to hide this and explain it away differently. Then you have this all knowing perfect god trying to send you to a hell that he created just for you if you do not believe in him. These are two of the reasons I do not want to be singing his praises forever and ever.
Should creationism be taught in schools?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 6, 2020:
I agree with this post but it does not mean I think creation should be taught in the classroom. I'm speaking here in a similar way as to what would happen if you teach religion in the classroom. Evangelicals want religion taught their way in claiming we are a Christian Nation. The reality of teaching religion in the classroom would be a brief mention of all religions. Being educated is not a religious matter.
