What you said is NOT true. Maybe this applies to your particular situation, but I am sure that it does not apply to everyone. I went to school in Wallaceburg. My father "stopped his clock" with a shotgun, my first year in high school. And my old mother, had talent; she could start an argument with anyone: Mahatma Gandy or the fictional JC. either. That was her "joy" in life. If Nature has provided a second life, I never want to meet either of them again.

At first it is a HUGE amount of effort, don't let anyone lie to you- but the rewards in the end are also HUGE. But normal activity after awhile, just becomes "normal". My uncle had his leg amputated because of diabetes- and this was caused by his lifestyle. When I don't opiate myself with food, I feel restless, like I want to run around the block 50 times- the way I 'want' to feel- a much better feeling than being a bear that gorges itself then hibernates for a large portion of the winter.----Yes, and also remember there is a bit of loneliness when you step out of the fat crowd; you may have to find different acquaintances that value a positive lifestyle.---Hope I don't sound like a preacher. @twshield I just read a news article in the paper a few days ago about all the western world being 'fat or gross'. It centered in on Britain, where it said by the age of 40 75% of Brits would be overweight- most of it caused by binge-drinking. Most of my life I have been active, but I 'decided' to get fat, and make a fool of myself, a few years back. I put the disgusting photo on my bathroom mirror. I have lost 46 pounds since then. I am NO hero; it came off slowly. I did NOT concentrate on being on a "diet". Everybody is on a diet, for what; they don't intend to lose anything! Be ULTRA VICIOUS WITH YOURSELF- enjoy health; enjoy your food. (I am a quasi-vegetarian; I eat some fish) I eat lots of veggies, barely cooked, they taste fantastic and have texture; I eat the correct amount of food; I never starve myself. Be with people who are exercising and are talking about interesting things: hiking, going to an art gallery, whatever. This does not mean that having a working knowledge about nutrition is not important.------I hope that what I said encourages someone who takes some aspects of life seriously.

Diogenes replies on Feb 26, 2018:
Yes, agree with your last sentence; every time a person defeats a crisis it makes them stronger- but then we get to another point, if life is just a matter of trying to stay afloat, where a person doesn't actually live a life, but is in a position of survival for the sake of survival, is it worth the effort? Even a fool should know when it is time to quit.

Ah, shame on me- ' I judge', and to myself I give the harshest review. That tends to be very depressing. But ironically I haven't been insightful enough. In my old age, I am getting a wee bit smarter; I would need to be. When buying a car, I would rather deal with 'Nasty Fred', "What are you, stupid? This is a pile of junk." as opposed to (Very) 'Friendly George', who is thinking, "My first sucker of the day.".

@orange_girl Yes, lots of thought provoking things by some philosophers. Some cartoonist have done some 'amazing' things- wish I was one to do something insightful. Robert Frost wrote his poem, "The Road Less Travelled" (hope I have that correct) "Two paths diverged in an elder wood/ And I took the one less travelled". I can see that in its current context: the sky-high hotels, the pollution, the noise---- and a huge electric sign pointing to a few square inches of ground, declaring, "The Road Less Travelled".
Age is just a number. In reality, I'm "Where the hell did that bruise come from?" years old.

There are tabloids (some call them "newspapers") and TV channels around here, that feature nothing but 'rivers of gore': war, axe-murders, any disgusting thing that the warped brain can think of- hey, but this is acceptable viewing! If there is adult, heterosexual scenes in a movie, there is a big notice before the movie, saying, "This movie contains sexual/adult content". Porn gets to be very boring; just the same old garbage, but I will take that over the other garbage offered. But sex is rather natural; that's how we all got here.

This is not a pleasant film to watch, about girls leaping from the 12th floor and coming down, like torches, with their clothes on fire. The point here is not about the macabre- but about being informed- about how it relates to current events and crimes of today. And PBS has 'many' different subjects; hypothetically, it could be about Roman coins next.

Diogenes replies on Jan 29, 2018:
Ashley good morning. Many decades ago I went out with someone that turned from Anglican to Roman Catholic, and in so doing she found it necessary to outperform the Catholics at their own game. She told me once that one of the nuns laughed at her. I can only guess that the nun had come to realize how foolish the system was. And celibacy! How many Catholics know anything about it? "Celibacy? Oh it was from the start." The First Lateran Council to the Council of Trent means nothing to them. For a healthy man, or woman to be celebrate is unnatural, while from what I have read, one Pope fathered nine children in the Vatican. But the churches in southern Deutschland and Holland are Catholic and they are very liberal. My former true-love was from Limburg, the southern most province in Holland, and when we were together, the idea of talking about religion never occurred- we had interesting things to talk about. To me, the 'Protestants' (I was one) are every bit as crazy. Have a most spectacular day.
