EricTrommater comments on Feb 7, 2018:
I got in trouble on the last one of these for saying "she has to be breathing", so I guess I will add breathing on her own . . . but that's not a total deal breaker.

Is it easy for you to adapt to change?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 7, 2018:
I fear and resent change and when I eventually adapt to changes, I fear and resent changes to that change. It's a vicious circle.

What do you do to help curtail negativity bias?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 5, 2018:
I simply stay away from negative people. I'm in sales and attitude is everything and as you said, the easiest thing to do is to succumb to someone else's negative state. I just avoid them like the plague.
Has anyone seen any good movies lately? What would you suggest?

Superbowl - Love it or leave it?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 4, 2018:
Love the game. Love football and it's a great way to celebrate a great sport. There was a time in the 90's when every game was a blow out and they were a bit dull but the luster has been back ever since the Broncos upset the Packers back in 1997. Since then, with a few exceptions it's been a great game.
Thinking of the arts, and of "spirit" - we are creative beings.

Football, Kneeling and Respect
EricTrommater comments on Feb 4, 2018:
It didn't both me. The National Anthem being played at sporting events is a uniquely North American tradition that really makes no sense to me. What do sporting events have to do with The National Anthem? We don't do it before concerts or plays or movies or any other type of entertainment except sports.
What is your type?

What are some surprising things you've learned, or realized, about yourself or others from the ...
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I learned that a lot of the freedoms we take for granted in the US are simply unheard of in other parts of the world. There is no First Amendment in Eastern Europe. Reporters are often jailed and just accept it as a part of their job. The idea of freedom of religion, not mention freedom FROM religion, is so alien in Bosnia-Herzigova that ads were run on TV explain in it to people before the NATO forces came so they wouldn't be shocked by their diversity.
Our relationship with food
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
There are not enough "all you can eat crab" places anymore. My mother was Jewish so I was denied shellfish as a child.
Marriage... Are there any divorcees out there who actively hope to get married again?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Ummm the free stuff at the wedding is always cool. I'd love another Kitchen Aid mixer. I broke mine.
Why do I hate it when a man sexualize my insights/intelligence/etc?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Maybe he just sucks a flirting. I suck at flirting too. The other day I told a woman she had a pretty mouth . . . and she hummed the "Dualing Banjos" at me from "Deliverance" and I realized I suck at flirting. It's just not my thing.
Best ever lover, did you have one?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Yes, and honestly sex has been a disappointment ever since. Now would I risk my mental health and safety to get into another relationship like that? Oh, Hell no!
At what point?

I have huge differences with the Universalist Unitarians, but the people I have met are some of the brightest, most talented, and nicest people you will ever meet.
Is anyone else watching "The Chi" on Showtime?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I disagree. I was bored, which is hard because I'm generally quite easily entertained. They had to work hard to bore me.
How mobile are you?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I used to travel a lot for work. It was great pre-911. Now it's such a pain in the a$$, if it's less than 10 hours I drive. Also, I'm still waiting for my luggage from 1998. You know who you are American Airlines. Give me back my bottle of Obsession and my Nike Pippin IIs. The clothing won't fit me anymore so keep it.
What are some things you wish you could blink out of existence?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
All of my puberty years!
What are your thoughts on firearms?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
Honestly, I used to be very anti-gun, but my brother's suicide on 2014 - by hanging - made me change my mind. Far too many people do die by gunfire every year but it doesn't even make the top 100 of causes of death in the United States. Half of those gun deaths are suicide. Suicide, by any means, is number now the number 9 or 10 cause of death in the US (depending on the survey). I simply believe that we need to pay at least as much attention to mental health as we do gun control. I also think that as long as we have 2.5 million people incarcerated in the US, we have an obligation to think hard and fast before creating more laws that might put even more people behind bars, destroy more families, and give the police more power.
Does a person's natural scent noticeably impact how much you're attracted to them?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
No.
Name your hypocrisy
EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I consider myself a Marxist at heart yet I am just as addicted to material possessions as the bourgeois. I complain when the price of gas goes up a nickel despite knowing, deep inside, that it takes exploiting 1/3 of the world's natural resources to keep prices as low as they are. I bought my daughter an IPhone for her birthday despite the fact that it was made with slave labor in order to make it affordable to me. . . the list is endless.

EricTrommater comments on Feb 3, 2018:

How many of you have thought of relocating due to your beliefs?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 2, 2018:
I've lived in Michigan, Ohio, New York, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina and even Eastern Europe for a short time. I have found the same prejudices everywhere. I have also found goid friends everywhere. I don't think it makes a difference where you are so much as who you are with.
Do you like it when people give you false hope? I don't.
EricTrommater comments on Feb 1, 2018:
I hate it even more when I give myself false hope.

What's your worst restaurant experience?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 1, 2018:
I used to go to a place called Bilbos in East Lansing, Michigan, when I was in college. It was staffed mostly by stoners, something I forgot when I took a somewhat famous novelist there to interview for my college newspaper. We ordered a pepperoni pizza to split, but when the waiter brought it out it was just cheese. The waiter, whose pupils looked like frying pans, looked the author in the eyes and said "I swear to God, I saw pepperoni!" He then began picking at her face saying "there they are!" We quickly left and finished the interview in my car.

Hello to anyone and everyone. How's everyone doing today? Anyone like to chat?
EricTrommater comments on Feb 1, 2018:
I would but I work until 9 pm.
Pick-up lines are so yesterday.
EricTrommater comments on Feb 1, 2018:
Our relationship reminds me of the movie "Heaven's Gate" in that it went on way too long. Also in that it sucked and I never want to see it again.

What do you think about long-distance relationships?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Three years ago I got back into a relationship with my High School sweetheart who lived about 4 1/2 hours away. I used to drive down and see her on the night before my off day, stay 2 nights and drive back in the mornimg. Eventually we got engaged and got a house tother near her. In hindsight it was a mistake. By up rooting myself and cutting my self off from my community I had put too much pressure on the relationship to work. After a couple years things didn't work out and I just moved back a couple weeks ago, older but no wiser.
Have you ever been told you look like someone famous?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:
I get Chris Farley quite often which I usually return with a lecture about the amount of time they'll to spot celebrity look-a-likes when they are living in a van down by the river!
Is it "shallow" to care about looks when it comes to picking a partner?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:
If I was about 20 years younger and 40 lbs thinner I'd say no but instead I'll say yes because. . . because . . . I don't want to die alone lol!
Humour.. What are the worst things you could say or have said after sex?

Well . . . That was a mistake!
Does anyone out there listen to NPR?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Love my NPR. All I listen too.
Do you think that men have become more feminine recently?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:
Nonsense. There are as many reasons a woman is attracted to a man as there are women and men. There is something borderline homophobic about the whole notion.
I wonder if they wear a boot on a neckchain?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 31, 2018:

EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
No , I was not.
How much time per day/week do you spend exercising or engaging in some form of fitness?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
I set my Google to 15000 steps. I get 9000 steps done before work on an old biking trail by my house and make sure I have my phone with me. That way I don't have the bitch nagging me all day with "try harder" and "you are 50% to your goal." I always end up at 15000 steps. Then I sit down.
Other than John Lennon's "Imagine," is there another atheist/agnostic song.

EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:

How old were you when you first watched porn?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
I was 11 when I discovered my dad's collection of Penthouse Magazines but I didn't actually go see a porn movie until I was 19. Back then you had to actually go to a dimly lit theater in a bad part of town. I remember finding the whole thing quite tawdry and an article I wrote about the experience for my college newspaper won several awards because porn movies, back then, were concidered quite a lower class enterprise. My mother actually told me she'd rather I'd written an article about smoking crack or something else more respectable. Lol. Times have changed.
If you were asked to submit a song for a porn soundtrack, what song would you add?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Something about The Smiths' "Stretch Out and Wait" always puts me in the mood. Maybe it's because it came out when I was at the height of puberty? Maybe it's the mandolin? https://youtu.be/w6IxYz7bRVQ
Marijuana stocks/mutual funds.. The next Amazon or total bust?

Which is more important to you in a relationship: great sex or feeling loved?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
Great sex all the way! If I want to feel loved I'll get a puppy or buy my kids a new video game.
Did anybody find movie Orphan a masterpiece and creepy as much as I did?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
I remember being blown away by young Isabelle Furman's performance in that film but I'll have to give it another watch because I don't remember much else from it. It seemed overly long to me when I saw it in the theater but maybe on the comfort of my own couch I'll like it better.
What are your thoughts on the quote?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 30, 2018:
If I say I'm offended by child porn . . . I'm going to be told so f*cking what? I'm whining? It's a rather aristocratic view of human beings. We are told to sit back and allow verbal bullies to ride roughshod over us for fear if being labeled whiners or as Fry's character Jeeves would say "not a good sport?" I hope not.
What was your favorite subject in school?

Is it better to live a fulfilling life of virtue or to pursue only happiness and pleasure?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 29, 2018:
So can we be fulfilled with the virtues of happiness and pleasure or do we have to choose? Seems kind of arbitrary.
If you were asked to teach a class of your choosing, what would the subject matter be?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I would love to teach a comparitive literature class contrasting Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu" with Adams' "The Education of Henry Adams." The similar third person autobiography combined with the contrast of post Napoleon III France and post Civil War America were a great intellectual awakening for me when I read the books simultaneously over a summer and it is an excercize I'd love to share with a new generation.
"Church, State and the Republican Party" forum will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina on February ...
EricTrommater comments on Jan 29, 2018:
I knew a lot of Conservative Athiests when I lived in Winston-Salem. They weren't the funnest bunch of people and I'd probably not want to have any over for dinner, let alone go to one of their forums. However, there is an attractive side to Libertarianism, if you don't think about it too much. Freedom, to me, doesn't mean taking all the power from the government and giving it to corporations.
There is no agnostic vs. atheist! The peeve I have...
EricTrommater comments on Jan 29, 2018:
In any community there is always a contest to out zealot one another. It's the same among non-believers. My twin brother was what I would call an anti-religious bigot with a chip on his shoulder not only toward religion, but religious people themselves. He considered moderate athiests and agnostics to be some lower form of non-believer and called it another form of hypocrisy. After his suicide on 2014 I began to come to terms with my own prejudices. As Socrates so aptly put it, "I know that I know nothing."
Household Chores
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:

Do you ever get into moods to where you dread to get out and deal with people of any kind?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:
People! Avoiding them. The main reason for my procrastination.
Sex. And, then what?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I find it a compliment when my partner falls asleep after sex. It means we squeezed as much out of that moment as we possibly could and left nothing on the table, or bed, or carpet, or wherever we are.
Have you ever had to end a relationship with someone you loved, due to religious baggage?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:
My ex wife was religious and we made it work for 8 years. We argued over religion but it was always very respectful. Not once did it become more than an intellectual excercize. My kids have been told they have to make there own minds up on the subject. My son leans athiest, my daughter is "spiritual but not religious," whatever that means.
If you haven't already seen this, you should check it out.

As to the question "How sure are you that there is no god?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:
I'm 100% sure myself, however I'm open minded when it comes to people who have observed the same facts I have and come to a different conclusion.
If a tree falls with no one to hear it, does it make a sound?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 28, 2018:
If a man speaks in the woods, and no women are nearby to hear him, is he still wrong? Old PHC joke. It bore repeating.
At the Houston auto show!!! What u.guys think? Classic or modern cars rule?
EricTrommater comments on Jan 27, 2018:
I've been selling cars for years and while I love the old muscle cars, they were poorly constructed death traps. Most if them would have the brake rotors rust out while they were still on the car lot. Modern vehicle technology is far superior and nostalgia aside, I wouldn't drive a car from the 70's today if you paid me.
Atheist vs Agnostic
EricTrommater comments on Jan 27, 2018:
It's a form of Manichean thinking. Believers like to separate people into those who believe and those who don't without giving room for any gray area. I consider myself an atheist, in that I am convinced there is no God. I also feel I am open minded enough to say I don't have all the answers and someone else may look at the same facts that I have and come to a different opinion.
