IMO, the colloquial use of the scientific term is highly misguided and subject to inconsistencies that religious folks like to use as ammunition -- "Evolution is **just** a theory" -- and those who like and attempt Critical Thinking should avoid it when inappropriate.

All that is required (and all that ever exists, IMO) is better current persuasive evidence. There are many examples of 'accepted' science that are subsequently disproved by new evidence (Newton's gravity is a canonical example).

@Robecology I am a 'believer'. However I am an original owner of a 1998 Toyotat 4Runner which was 'totalled' (for insurance purposes) in 2008. I did all the repairs myself (except for front wheel alignment) and am happily still driving it as my primary vehicle -- I have a spare, never knowing the day the Toyota will be 'defunct'. If/when that happens, I will be considering Tesla. :)

I watched this 'debate' yesterday (posted by someone else). Apart from math, not even science PROVES anything, there is always doubt/error-bars/new ideas. If the evidence doesn't persuade, nothing will.
