Dancing In The Dark. - Bruce Springsteen. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Sep 9, 2020:
Springsteen wrote "Dancing In the Dark" overnight, after Jon Landau convinced him that the album needed a single. According to journalist Dave Marsh in the book Glory Days, Springsteen was not impressed with Landau's approach. "Look", he snarled, "I've written seventy songs. You want another one, you write it." Despite this reaction, Springsteen sat in his hotel room and wrote the song in a single night. It sums up his state of mind, his feeling of isolation after the success of his album The River, and his frustrations of trying to write a hit single.

"Truly, Truly" is a song by American rock band Grant Lee Buffalo. It was released in May 1998 as the lead single from their fourth album, Jubilee. Written by Grant-Lee Phillips and produced by Paul Fox. According to Grant Lee Buffalo drummer Joey Peters, he and Grant-Lee Phillips began work on "Truly, Truly" in 1996 while touring with The Smashing Pumpkins. As Phillips and Peters began demoing tracks for what would become the Jubilee album, bassist and producer Paul Kimble did not participate because, Peters recalled, "it was kind of obvious he was in a different space, musically and creatively". Kimble left the group the following year. Grant Lee Phillips – vocals, guitar Joey Peters – drums, tambourine, shaker Dan Rothchild – bass Rami Jaffee – organ Andrew Williams – additional vocals

"Classical Gas" is an instrumental musical piece composed and originally performed by American guitarist Mason Williams with instrumental backing by members of the Wrecking Crew. Originally released in 1968 on the album The Mason Williams Phonograph Record, it has been rerecorded and rereleased numerous times since by Williams. One later version served as the title track of a 1987 album by Williams and the band Mannheim Steamroller. Williams was the head writer for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour at the time of the piece's release and premiered the composition on the show. Williams performed it several times over several episodes.

(from songfacts.com) This was the closing track from Phil Collins' fifth solo album, Both Sides. He told The Mail on Sunday about it: "This song, like a lot of my songs, wrote itself. I remember playing the chords then singing whatever came into my head. I only ever played I once, and this is it!" Phil Collins recalled to Mojo magazine in 2015 how he came up with the song. "I've forgotten how I wrote it," he said. "I just played. I set up a microphone in my house and sang and what I sang is what you hear. That's jazz to me."

FearlessFly comments on Sep 8, 2020:
The Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World", Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll "Z nového světa"), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. In older literature and recordings, this symphony was – as for its first publication – numbered as Symphony No. 5. Astronaut Neil Armstrong took a tape recording of the New World Symphony along during the Apollo 11 mission, the first Moon landing, in 1969. The symphony was completed in the building that now houses the Bily Clocks Museum.

FearlessFly comments on Sep 8, 2020:
"Shock Me" is a song by American hard rock band Kiss, which first appeared on their 1977 album Love Gun. It was written by lead guitarist Ace Frehley, who made his lead vocal debut. The song was inspired by an event that took place during Kiss' Rock and Roll Over tour, when he was nearly electrocuted. On December 12, 1976, Kiss performed a concert at the Lakeland Civic Center in Lakeland, Florida. During the opening number, Frehley touched a metal staircase railing, which was ungrounded. He was knocked to the ground, and the concert was delayed for 30 minutes. The show was eventually completed, and Frehley claimed to have lost feeling in his hand for the remainder of the concert.

It first appeared on the final studio album by the band, On Every Street (1991) and was released as the first single from that album. The song is about an Elvis fan who believes Elvis Presley is still alive, making references to many of his songs, including "Heartbreak Hotel", "Love Me Tender", "Love Me (Treat Me Like a Fool)", "Don't Be Cruel" and "Return to Sender", as well as the expression "Elvis has left the building". Mark Knopfler has been quoted as saying the idea came to him one day when he left his phone off the hook and his brother-in-law tried repeatedly to get hold of him. Upon finally doing so, the brother-in-law remarked Mark was harder to get hold of than Elvis.

Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Sep 5, 2020:
"Moby Dick" is an instrumental and drum solo by English rock band Led Zeppelin, featured on their 1969 album Led Zeppelin II. Named after the whale in the novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, it was also known by the alternate titles "Pat's Delight" (early 1968–1969 version with completely different guitar riff) and "Over the Top" (with "Out on the Tiles" intro section and original closing reprise) during various points of the band's career. The tune emerged after Led Zeppelin guitarist and producer Jimmy Page would often catch drummer John Bonham jamming or improvising in the studio, recorded parts of his solos and pieced it all together. The beginning and end of the song feature a power trio of Bonham, Page and bassist John Paul Jones performing a 12 bar blues riff in Drop D tuning, leaving the remainder of the song open for Bonham alone. The structure of the main riff is that of the twelve-bar blues. Singer Robert Plant did not sing at all and in concert would simply introduce Bonham to the audience before the tune started. Studio outtakes from the Led Zeppelin II sessions reveal that the drum solo recorded was edited down from a much longer version.

More, More, More by Andrea True Connection- [m.youtube.]
FearlessFly comments on Sep 5, 2020:
"More, More, More" is a song written by Gregg Diamond and recorded by American disco artist Andrea True (under the name Andrea True Connection). It was released in February 1976 and became her signature track and one of the most popular songs of the disco era. The song was originally recorded in Jamaica where True, a porn star, had been appearing in a television commercial. An attempted coup prevented her from leaving the country with her wages from the commercial. Resourcefully, True called on Gregg Diamond to come down to Jamaica to write and record the song with her, along with other studio musicians which formed the backbone of the "Connection" project

David Crosby and Graham Nash, Stills' fellow members of Crosby, Stills & Nash, provide background vocals on the song. The song was also covered by a number of artists, notably the Isley Brothers, Bucks Fizz and Luther Vandross.

BEETHOVEN, LATE STRING QUARTET no 15, op 132 3rd movement (molto adagio). [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Sep 4, 2020:
The String Quartet No. 15 in A minor, Op. 132, by Ludwig van Beethoven, was written in 1825, given its public premiere on November 6 of that year by the Schuppanzigh Quartet and was dedicated to Count Nikolai Galitzin, as were Opp. 127 and 130. The number traditionally assigned to it is based on the order of its publication; it is actually the thirteenth quartet in order of composition. Beethoven wrote this piece after recovering from a serious illness which he had feared was fatal because he had been afflicted with intestinal disorder during the entire winter of 1824–5. He thus headed the movement with the words, "Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit, in der lydischen Tonart" ("Holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent to the Deity, in the Lydian mode")

FearlessFly comments on Sep 2, 2020:
"Never Been to Spain" is a song written by Hoyt Axton, originally released on his 1971 LP Joy to the World and later that year performed by Three Dog Night, with Cory Wells on lead vocal. The lyrics consist of the narrator ruminating on places that he has never visited, but feels that he has some proxy experience of, via the music or other features of those places, or from having gone to similar locations. In the final verse, he observes that while he has "never been to heaven", he has "been to Oklahoma", where he was told he was born, thus implying a kinship between the two places. Hoyt Axton, who was born in Oklahoma, explained that he originally wrote, "...in Oklahoma, born in a coma...." However, it was considered inappropriate; thus, the lyrics were changed to "not Arizona".

MAPLE LEAF RAG - LESTER LANIN ORCHESTRA This was our parents choice, .
FearlessFly comments on Sep 1, 2020:
The "Maple Leaf Rag" (copyright registered on September 18, 1899) is an early ragtime musical composition for piano composed by Scott Joplin. It was one of Joplin's early works, and became the model for ragtime compositions by subsequent composers. It is one of the most famous of all ragtime pieces. As a result, Joplin became dubbed the "King of Ragtime" by his contemporaries. The piece gave Joplin a steady if unspectacular income for the rest of his life. The "Maple Leaf Rag" is associated with the city of Sedalia, Missouri, although there is no record of Joplin having a permanent residence there before 1904. Joplin arrived in Sedalia in 1894 as a touring musician and stayed with the family of Arthur Marshall, who later became one of Joplin's students and a ragtime composer in his own right.[3] Joplin played as a solo musician at dances and at the major black clubs in Sedalia, among them the "Maple Leaf Club". It is possible that the rag was named after the Maple Leaf Club, although there is no direct evidence to prove the link, and there were probably many other possible sources for the name in and around Sedalia at the time.

FearlessFly comments on Sep 1, 2020:
It was written by Rea and produced by Rea and Jon Kelly. "Texas" was inspired by a conversation Rea had with his neighbour about Texas. At the time, Rea had not been to the state, whereas his neighbour described the long, clear roads and lack of traffic jams there. In the 1999 Collins Gem book Classic Albums, Rea said of the song's character: "He's going for that big Western apple in the sky. He's thinking it should be like Texas, and he's thinking of large, cheap steaks, every woman is 6' 4" and has massive legs and looks like Jerry Hall, [and] there's no trouble because they say there's no trouble. But really, if you've been there, it's even three times more violent."

FearlessFly comments on Sep 1, 2020:
. . . nice and mellow, but I prefer the original (from songfacts.com) Pete Townshend originally wrote this about a character in his "Lifehouse" project, which was going to be a film similar to The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia. Townshend never finished "Lifehouse," but the songs ended up on the album Who's Next. >> Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey both have blue eyes, but the song is not autobiographical. Townshend has said that he wrote it to show "How lonely it is to be powerful." Townshend was going to use this as the main song in the Lifehouse film for the villain, Jumbo. Pete Townshend has explained that he never behaved like a typical rock star when he was on tour, especially when it came to groupies, which he tried to avoid. He says it was a run-in with a groupie that was the impetus for this song. Townshend, who got married in 1968, was tempted by a groupie after The Who's June 9, 1970 concert in Denver. He says that he went back to his room alone and wrote a prayer beginning, "If my fist clenches, crack it open..." The prayer was more or less asking for help in resisting this temptation. The other words could be describing Townshend's self-pity and how hard it is to resist.

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Sep 1, 2020:
"The Rain Song" is a ballad of over seven minutes in length. Guitarist Jimmy Page originally constructed the melody of this song at his home in Plumpton, England, where he had recently installed a studio mixing console. A new Vista model, it was partly made up from the Pye Mobile Studio which had been used to record the group's 1970 Royal Albert Hall performance and The Who's Live at Leeds album. With a working title of "Slush", a reference to its easy listening simulated orchestral arrangement, Page was able to bring in a completed arrangement of the melody, for which singer Robert Plant composed the words. Plant ranks his vocal performance on the track as one of his best. The song also features a Mellotron played by John Paul Jones to add to the orchestral effect, while Page plays a Danelectro guitar. George Harrison was reportedly the inspiration for "The Rain Song" when he made a comment to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, about the fact that the group never wrote any ballads. In Light and Shade: Conversations with Jimmy Page, biographer Brad Tolinski quotes Page: George [Harrison] was talking to Bonzo one evening and said, 'The problem with you guys is that you never do ballads.' I said, 'I'll give him a ballad,' and I wrote 'Rain Song,' which appears on Houses of the Holy. In fact, you'll notice I even quote 'Something' in the song's first two chords.

[youtu.be] Skating away - Jethro Tull
FearlessFly comments on Aug 31, 2020:
It was released on their album War Child in 1974. Written as a comment on global cooling for the band's aborted "Chateau D'isaster" album, the song was reworked in 1974 for War Child. "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of the New Day" was written by Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson, who dubbed it his "first climate change song" due to its lyrics about the then-current concern over global cooling. He later explained, This was my first song talking about the issue of ecology and, in this specific case, climate change. Back in those days, scientists believed that we were heading towards a period of global cooling, that we could be heading towards a new ice age. And in fact, they realized that in fact, no, we're heading toward a period of global warming. So my song became kind of redundant. But the idea was sound. And I still have a fondness for it today, because it is talking with optimism about facing the changing world and a changing climate to which we have to adapt, bravely and optimistically. And it feels very apt and appropriate for today. . . . not available for me . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq-bcFOI56E

"Tired of Toein' the Line" is a song by Rocky Burnette, who co-wrote it with Ron Coleman, former bass player of the Brothers Grim and The Everly Brothers. It was performed by Burnette, and contains lyrics detailing an imminent breakup from the point of view of a man who no longer wants to toe the line. In the 1980s, cover versions of the song were released by singer Ricky Nelson on his album Playing to Win (1981) and British singer Shakin' Stevens on his album A Whole Lotta Shaky (1988).

If people are basically good, why do we have government ? I contend we have government because people have BOTH 'good/bad' propensities. Without government, which one would prevail ?

Sebastian co-wrote the song with Jamie Hartman, who also produced and co-wrote "Before I Go", the Platinum-selling, lead single from Sebastian's forthcoming album. Sebastian said "We've written quite a few tunes together, Jamie and myself, so it's proving to be a good partnership". The song centres around issues surrounding mental-ill health and the struggle to support loved ones who are suffering. In a lead-up to the song's release, Sebastian said "A family member of mine was going through a very tough time, and he was brave enough to share his battle with his own mental health, and that inspired this song".

from the Showtime series "I'm dying up here" In the morning, Irving comes-up behind Eustice and pinches her tukas and says "If you could firm this up, we could get-rid of your girdle". Well Eustice did not like that, but didn't respond. That night in bed Irving rolled over, grabbed a breast and said "If you could firm these up, we could get rid of your bra", That was too much, so Eustice rolled-over, grabbed his male member with a firm grip, and said "If you could firm this up, we could get rid of the butcher, the postman, and your brother !". :O
