FearlessFly comments on Aug 21, 2020:
The song was written by the lead singer, David Coverdale, and former Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden. The most notable difference between the original and re-recorded versions are a slight change in the lyrics and a different pace, as well as a missed "flam" at 4:22. The chorus of the original version features the lines: And here I go again on my own Goin' down the only road I've ever known Like a hobo I was born to walk alone In an interview, Coverdale explained that "hobo" was changed to "drifter" in the re-recorded version to ensure that it would not be misheard as "homo".

"Let's Stick Together" is a blues-based rhythm and blues song written by Wilbert Harrison, released in 1962 by Fury Records. He further developed the song and in 1969, Sue Records issued it as a two-part single titled "Let's Work Together". Several artists subsequently recorded the songs; "Let's Work Together" by Canned Heat (1970) and "Let's Stick Together" by Bryan Ferry (1976) were both chart successes.

Kiss - I Was Made For Lovin' You [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Aug 20, 2020:
"I Was Made for Lovin' You" draws heavily from the disco style that was popular in late-1970s United States. According to legend, the members of the band were in conflict with their producers, who wanted the band to shift to a more commercial sound. In response, the band argued that lucrative disco songs could be written by anyone in a short time frame. The story goes that the song's demo was completed in mere hours after the bet. While the story is unproven, Paul Stanley, who co-wrote the song with Desmond Child and Vini Poncia, has stated that it was a conscious effort on his part to prove how easy it was to write and record a hit disco song. Gene Simmons revealed in a 2018 interview that he always disliked the song because of his vocal part.

FearlessFly comments on Aug 20, 2020:
"In the Air Tonight" is the debut solo single by the English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was released as the lead single from Collins's debut solo album, Face Value, in January 1981. Collins co-produced the single with Hugh Padgham, who became a frequent collaborator in the following years. Collins wrote the song amid the grief he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea Bertorelli in 1980. In a 2016 interview, Collins said of the song's lyrics: "I wrote the lyrics spontaneously. I'm not quite sure what the song is about, but there's a lot of anger, a lot of despair and a lot of frustration." In a 1997 BBC Radio 2 documentary, the singer revealed that the divorce contributed to his 1979 hiatus from the band Genesis until they regrouped in October of that year to record the album Duke. Originally, Collins was going to include the song on Duke, but it was rejected by the band; Tony Banks later regretted the decision

In this song, Tennant describes some impressions he got from his time at the Catholic St Cuthbert's High School in Newcastle upon Tyne. "At school they taught me how to be / So pure in thought and word and deed / They didn't quite succeed", the lyrics say. He ended up feeling that everything he had done or was going to do was a sin. Tennant has said that he wrote the lyrics purging his emotions in a moment of frustration and anger, but it wasn't something serious

If You Want Blood You've Got It is the first live album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, and their only live album with Bon Scott as lead vocalist. AC/DC's concert at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland on 30 April 1978 was used for the live tracks (it has never been confirmed if any other concert tracks from this tour are used also) that appeared on the album, as it can be clearly heard during "The Jack" Scott exclaiming "Any virgins in Glasgow?" as proof of some songs' concert location. This concert will also be remembered for the encore when AC/DC came back on stage dressed in the Scottish Football strip, paying homage to Scott's and the Young brothers' homeland. A song with the same title of "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" appeared on the next album, and the band's US album charts breakthrough, Highway to Hell.

Little Red Rooster.
FearlessFly comments on Aug 18, 2020:
"Little Red Rooster" (or "The Red Rooster" as it was first titled) is a blues standard credited to arranger and songwriter Willie Dixon. The song was first recorded in 1961 by American blues musician Howlin' Wolf in the Chicago blues style. His vocal and slide guitar playing are key elements of the song. It is rooted in the Delta blues tradition and the theme is derived from folklore. Musical antecedents to "Little Red Rooster" appear in earlier songs by blues art. The Rolling Stones were among the first British rock groups to record modern electric blues songs. In 1964, they recorded "Little Red Rooster" with original member Brian Jones, a key player in the recording. Their rendition, which remains closer to the original arrangement than Cooke's, became a number one record in the UK and continues to be the only blues song to reach the top of the British chart. The Stones frequently performed it on television and in concert and released several live recordings of the song. "Little Red Rooster" continues to be performed and recorded, making it one of Willie Dixon's best-known compositions.

(from https://sites.google.com/site/theelectricbayou/songs/pagan-baby ) “Pagan Baby” is the opening track of the Pendulum album, the fifth by Creedence Clearwater Revival, released on 7th December 1970. The title comes from childhood memories of John Fogerty when he attended Catholic school. School kids were always having a collection for the pagan babies. There was a tin can bank in class, and you’d bring in change and drop it in for them. The phrase "pagan baby" was great, and Fogerty wanted to add some sarcasm to it and turn that into rock and roll, with implied sex and all the rest (John Fogerty, Fortunate Son, 2015).

FearlessFly comments on Aug 16, 2020:
Written by Tillman Franks and Johnny Horton in 1960 and recorded by Johnny Horton that was featured in the movie of the same name. Though Horton had sung several popular movie tie-in songs, this was the first one that was sung over the opening titles. The song's lyrics during the opening titles of the film provide a back story for the point where the film begins: Sam McCord left Seattle in 1892 with George and Billy Pratt, "crossed the Yukon river" and "found the bonanza gold below that old white mountain just a little southeast of Nome." By "1901" Sam was known as "a mighty man", and his partner George then tells him, "I'd trade all the gold that's buried in this land for one small band of gold to place on sweet little Jenny's hand." George feels that Jenny is his "true love", and he declares he will "build for my Jenny a honeymoon home" below the same mountain where gold was discovered. An instrumental of the song is also played at the saloon on a piano when Sam and Angel arrive in Nome.
David Bowie & Mick Jagger. - Dancing In The Street [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Aug 16, 2020:
"Dancing in the Street" is a song written by Marvin Gaye, William "Mickey" Stevenson and Ivy Jo Hunter. It first became popular in 1964 when recorded by Martha and the Vandellas whose version reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart. It is one of Motown's signature songs and is the group's premier signature song. A hit cover version of "Dancing in the Street" was recorded by the English rock icons Mick Jagger and David Bowie as a duo in 1985, to raise money for the Live Aid famine relief cause. The original plan was to perform a track together live, with Bowie performing at Wembley Stadium and Jagger at John F. Kennedy Stadium, until it was realized that the satellite link-up would cause a half-second delay that would make this impossible unless either Bowie or Jagger mimed their contribution, something neither artist was willing to do. In June 1985, Bowie was recording his contributions to the Absolute Beginners soundtrack at Westside Studios with Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley, and so Jagger arranged to fly in to record the track there. A rough mix of the track was completed in just four hours on June 29 1985 [53]. Thirteen hours after the start of recording, the song and video were completed. Jagger arranged for some minor musical overdubs with Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero in New York City.

FearlessFly comments on Aug 16, 2020:
The song, a Steve Marriott composition, bemoans being arrested for possession of small quantities of illegal drugs, including cocaine; Durban poison, a potent strain of marijuana; and Red Lebanese and Black Nepalese, two types of hashish. "New Castle Brown" is often mistaken as a reference to Newcastle Brown Ale but actually refers to heroin also known as "Brown" or "Smack". Pie guitarist Clem Clempson has said it is one of the tracks he would most like his career to be remembered by. But the predominant group personality shown through by the song is Marriott's; so much so that when years later Clempson was asked about efforts to reform the group without Marriott, he simply declaimed, "It's a waste of time."

One of U2's most overtly political songs, its lyrics describe the horror felt by an observer of the Troubles in Northern Ireland, mainly focusing on the 1972 Bloody Sunday incident in Derry where British troops shot and killed unarmed civil rights protesters.
THE BIG BANG.

What are your thoughts on abortion?
FearlessFly comments on Aug 16, 2020:
I don't think it is a coincidence that this was posted it the R&S group. :P For those who might say (or already have) 'between woman and doctor' . . . (repeating some of my responses from below) Given that abortion and religion are inextricably linked in the US, I would posit that logic is likely a 'dream'. Is anyone advocating that abortion as a primary method of 'birth-control' is morally acceptable ? to whom ? Who can/should represent the 'interests' of the not-yet-born ? What prospect is there for any "coming together" on this highly divisive subject other than by "the will of the people" -- congress. IMO, Roe v Wade (although reasonable, longstanding, and concise) was decided on the basis that SCOTUS came to the conclusion that (at the time, perhaps still) congress could/would not resolve the issue. The lines between "isn't a person" and "killing of a baby" are far from b/w, and who draws those lines ? Are there to be no limits to abortion, morally or otherwise ? If only congress can provide the will of the people, what politician would get elected espousing that position ?

Every Beat of My Heart is an album by Rod Stewart. It is his fourteenth studio album, released in June 1986. It produced four singles: "Love Touch", "Another Heartache", "In My Life", and "Every Beat of My Heart." Every Beat Of My Heart was the biggest hit of the album and reached number two in the UK Singles Chart in July 1986.

For those of you that are getting LOTS, I can empathize, but I also take that as (I have other, and more) evidence that my efforts (not insignificant) in maintaining my privacy are helping and worth-it. :)

FearlessFly comments on Aug 15, 2020:
I choose to NOT have a smartphone (privacy). I use a $15 'dumb' phone (no internet access). I routinely reject numbers I don't recognize. (I think because of the above) I get at most (often less) two attempted 'robo' calls per week. :)

The single version is a slight remix of the album track. A slower, blues-style version of the song, with Elvis Costello on vocals, was included as a bonus track on the 12" single. The latter version was later included as a bonus track on the 2004 2-disc reissue of Costello's Goodbye Cruel World album.

FearlessFly comments on Aug 14, 2020:
(from muddywaterzine.com ) God’s Comic, which, though very wordy and fiendishly clever, is Elvis at his biting, sarcastic, truthful best. Rolling Stone reviewer David Wild called it, “a song that Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht would be proud to call their own,” high praise indeed. The narrator who starts the song, (there will be another narrator later) is a bawdy, drunken comedian whose character is a priest, a kind of Falstaffian servant of the Lord. Whether or not this is a broad critique of the Catholic Church and their sometimes dubious representatives of Christ on earth, (priests start their day every day drinking wine at mass, after all) we get the picture. A drunken clown priest, which gives the listener a pretty clear idea of Costello’s feelings for the institution.
Hi folks! I'm new here, having fun so far.
