Although I know this isn't the case, my early thoughts about the song during my 70's awakening were that it related to Sartre and his version of hell and having to trust another for one's looks, as in No Exit.
FearlessFly replies on Mar 28, 2020:
I read The Existentialists", but had not known about that play, so for others who might wonder about your (interesting) "No Exit" reference : The play begins with three characters who find themselves waiting in a mysterious room. It is a depiction of the afterlife in which three deceased characters are punished by being locked into a room together for eternity. It is the source of Sartre's especially famous quotation "L'enfer, c'est les autres" or "Hell is other people", a reference to Sartre's ideas about the look and the perpetual ontological struggle of being caused to see oneself as an object from the view of another consciousness

"If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)" is a song written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. It was written in 1949 in support of the progressive movement, and was first recorded by The Weavers, a folk music quartet composed of Seeger, Hays, Ronnie Gilbert, and Fred Hellerman. It was a number 10 hit for Peter, Paul and Mary in 1962 and then went to number three a year later when recorded by Trini Lopez.

FearlessFly replies on Mar 24, 2020:
@sterlingdean . . . sigh, I can't believe, on this site, explanation is needed. NO ONE (especially me) is disputing the **existence** of (the phenomenon of) gravity. Perhaps I could have used "Law of Universal Gravitation". Newton invented calculus which, mathematically, (to an extremely close approximation) can describe gravity fairly well (and it is still useful to do so). BUT not-even he described what gravity actually IS. And the idea (Newtons' 'Law' ) "every object in the universe attracts every other object" is fundamentally WRONG. Einsteins's General Relativity (that gravity is a curvature of spacetime) is (so far) settled science. My whole "beef" with the word PROOF, in the context of science, is that it's use is (apart from math) inappropriate since there is always doubt etc. Non-believers (especially) are quite fond of "Evolution is just a Theory" (conflating the colloquial use of the word with the **scientific** meaning of it). Words Matter. For those who care about critical thinking, I think it is better to advocate using the accurate ones.

"And one night," Andy would recall, "while we were relaxing, we sat down and we had to start getting tracks together for the album" (also titled Shadow Dancing, which would eventually hit #7 on the U.S. album charts). https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/respirator-use-faq.html What is an N95 filtering facepiece respirator (FFR)? An N95 FFR is a type of respirator which removes particles from the air that are breathed through it. These respirators filter out at least 95% of very small (0.3 micron) particles. N95 FFRs are capable of filtering out all types of particles, including bacteria and viruses.

FearlessFly replies on Mar 19, 2020:
@Marionville The video for the song was directed by Jörn Heitmann, famous for directing the videos of Rammstein, and was filmed in a brothel in Berlin. It was considered controversial by fans and the media due to its strong adult content, featuring topics not as clear in A-ha videos before; sex, drugs, suicide, prostitution, and alcohol had never been so prominently featured in the band's videos, although sadomasochism had been noted in the previous release, "Move to Memphis". Heat sensors are used to show some of the more graphic images from the video. One Norwegian newspaper held the headline, "Raw sex in A-ha video" after the video was officially released on September 24, 2005. Magne: "The video is about people who have lost their direction in the hunt for meaning - and loneliness as a result of lost innocence."
