Lovers In A Dangerous Time - Bruce Cockburn 'You've gotta kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds ...
FearlessFly comments on Apr 18, 2020:
According to Cockburn, the song was inspired by seeing teenagers expressing romantic love in a schoolyard. In the song, he contrasts the hopefulness and joy of new love with the despair of a wider Cold War world where notions of the future often carried a sense of foreboding and doom. However, especially in light of Cockburn's next single "If I Had a Rocket Launcher", the song has also been interpreted by listeners and critics as referring to the same Guatemalan refugee crisis that inspired the later song, or to the then-emerging HIV/AIDS crisis. Cockburn stated in later interviews that he was pleased by both of these alternate interpretations.

NEW KID IN TOWN - JD SOUTHER .
FearlessFly comments on Apr 18, 2020:
"New Kid in Town" is a song by the Eagles from their 1976 studio album Hotel California. It was written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey and J.D. Souther. The song features Glenn Frey singing the lead vocals, with Don Henley singing main harmony vocals. Randy Meisner plays the guitarrón mexicano, Don Felder plays electric guitars, and Joe Walsh plays the electric piano and organ parts. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices. Souther would later say that the song came about as a result of their "fascination with gunfire as an analogy", and added that "at some point some kid would come riding into town that was much faster than you and he'd say so, and then he'd prove it." He said: "We were just writing about our replacements." Similarly, Henley discussed the song's meaning in the liner notes of The Very Best Of: “ It's about the fleeting, fickle nature of love and romance. It's also about the fleeting nature of fame, especially in the music business. We were basically saying, 'Look, we know we're red hot right now but we also know that somebody's going to come along and replace us — both in music and in love.'

"Wake Up Little Susie" is a popular song written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and published in 1957. The song is best known in a recording by the Everly Brothers, issued by Cadence Records as catalog number 1337. The song is written from the point of view of a high school boy to his girlfriend, Susie. In the song, the two go out on a date to a cinema (perhaps a drive-in), only to fall asleep during the movie. They do not wake up until 4 o'clock in the morning, well after her 10 o'clock curfew. They then contemplate the reactions of her parents and their friends. Don Everly reported it had been banned in Boston.

"You've Got Your Troubles" became the inaugural composition by the prolific songwriting team of Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway in 1964. Cook and Greenaway wrote "You've Got Your Troubles" while they were both members of the group The Kestrels, the song being composed while that group was on a pop package tour. Cook recalls he and Greenaway were in a theatre. "Roger [Greenaway] said 'I've [written] a little tune' and we both brought our ukuleles out and he played [his tune] and he said 'Could you help me with the lyric?' and in the space of two hours we'd written the whole song".

FearlessFly comments on Apr 17, 2020:
"Rain" was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. He described its meaning as "about people moaning about the weather all the time". The song's recording contains a slowed-down rhythm track, a droning bass line and backwards vocals. Its release marked the first time that reversed sounds appeared in a pop song, although the Beatles used the same technique on the Revolver track "Tomorrow Never Knows", recorded days earlier. Ringo Starr considered "Rain" his best recorded drum performance.

"Saint of Me" is a single by The Rolling Stones from their 1997 album Bridges to Babylon. Mick Jagger sings about various people in history who had converted to Christianity, notably St. Paul and St. Augustine. Jagger then states that they will never make a saint out of him. The song is notable for its performers. With Jagger on vocals, acoustic guitar and keyboards, Waddy Wachtel and Ron Wood play electric guitars (Keith Richards is notably absent), Me'Shell Ndegéocello and Pierre de Beauport on bass and six-string bass, respectively, and Stones-recording veteran Billy Preston on organ.

Big Country - The Storm [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 16, 2020:
The songs on The Crossing deal with topics including loss ("Inwards," "Chance"), separation ("Close Action"), dehumanization ("Lost Patrol"), and the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion ("The Storm"). Many of the songs are characterized by Brzezicki's highly-compressed drums and the heavily effects-treated, layered guitars of Adamson and Watson. The music often demonstrates a clear influence of Scottish traditional music, particularly obvious in the pipe-band rhythms of "In a Big Country" and "Fields of Fire" and the swirling, Gaelic guitar intro to "The Storm." This caused the band to be categorized as a Celtic rock band, which sometimes led to unfavorable comparisons with other bands such as Thin Lizzy.

Fly Like An Eagle... [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 16, 2020:
An earlier 1973 version features a more bluesy and less funk-inspired rhythm, with the guitar taking the synthesizer parts (albeit with similar delay effects). The lyrics are slightly different, indicating that the place the eagle wants to fly away from is a Native American reservation. The final, funk-inspired album version pays homage to "Slippin' into Darkness" by War (1971). It was re-recorded for the eponymous album released in 1976. The guitar hook was first used in a slightly different form on Miller's 1969 track "My Dark Hour" (which featured Paul McCartney).

I believe the ship is not just a metaphor for the world, but for human society afloat in the world. When the society starts to "sink" or everyone doesn't have to pay equally. Tom says the ones who pay are "the poor, the lame, the blind" which is quite obviously the lower classes (I don't think Tom means the Blind to be the religious, as is the common translation. That seems a bit out of line with the rest of Blood Money), while the upper classes are left in charge. If you apply the song to Wall Street's near total destruction of the world economy, then it really takes shape. That's why "lawyers" are equal with "killers and thieves" (warmongers, investment bankers etc).
Ever wonder what possesses a religious person to come onto an Agnostic/Atheist site and pretend that...

The song was co-written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, with input from Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler. Written for Franklin, the record was a big hit reaching number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became one of her signature songs. As recounted in his autobiography, Wexler, a student of African-American musical culture, had been mulling over the concept of the "natural man", when he drove by King on the streets of New York. He shouted out to her that he wanted a "natural woman" song for Aretha Franklin's next album. They went home and wrote the song that night. In thanks, Goffin and King granted Wexler a co-writing credit.

Known as The Man with the Golden Voice, he filled cabarets, nightclubs, music halls, and stadiums across the world in his 30-year career. AllMusic has described Monro as "one of the most underrated pop vocalists of the '60s", who "possessed the easiest, most perfect baritone in the business".
Sex Pistols - Holidays In The Sun [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 15, 2020:
The single proved to be the last with singer John Lydon for 30 years. The song was inspired by a trip to the Channel Island of Jersey: "We tried our holiday in the sun in the isle of Jersey and that didn't work. They threw us out." That trip was followed by a couple of weeks spent in Berlin. Although they described the city as "raining and depressing", they were relieved to get away from London. Said John Lydon, "Being in London at the time made us feel like we were trapped in a prison camp environment. There was hatred and constant threat of violence. The best thing we could do was to go set up in a prison camp somewhere else. Berlin and its decadence was a good idea. The song came about from that.

"Smooth Criminal" is a song by American singer Michael Jackson from his seventh studio album Bad (1987). It was written and composed by Jackson, and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. It features a fast beat with lyrics about a woman who has been attacked in her apartment by a "smooth criminal". The refrain "Annie, are you OK?" was inspired by Resusci Anne, a dummy used in CPR training. According to the band members, they would play a few riffs of the Jackson song while warming up before gigs and audience members would request them to play the entire song. This positive feedback encouraged them to record their own rendition of "Smooth Criminal" and include it on Anthology.

This for those of you critical of the Bernie supporters who are not likely to support Biden.

Meute (stylized MEUTE) is an eleven-piece self-described techno marching band from Germany. The band arranges Techno, House and Deep House works by well-known DJs, augmenting them with electronic beats created by marching band instruments. In doing so, they seek to "[create] a new genre by combining hypnotic driving techno and expressive brass band music," thereby "detaching electronic music from the DJ desk." Meute have toured Europe, America, and southern Africa in their four-year history and have performed in a variety of venues, including city streets, music festivals, and classical concert halls.
