The former was released as a single to promote the album in December 1988, peaking at No. 66 in the UK and No. 43 in the US. "Hold Me" was also re-released in the UK with "No Questions Asked" as its B-side in February 1989.

In order to promote the album, the band appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1995, thanks in large part to the finagling of fellow Canadian and Kingston-area resident Dan Aykroyd, who was a fan of the band, and appeared on the show just to introduce them, despite John Goodman hosting the episode. The band performed "Grace, Too" and "Nautical Disaster".

The song had its origins during the recording of 1993's Siamese Dream. According to frontman Billy Corgan, "somewhere, I have a tape of us from 1993 endlessly playing the 'world is a vampire' part over and over". It was not until 1995 that Corgan finished the song with the noted chorus "rat in a cage", on an acoustic guitar during the same session that "Landslide" was recorded. The lyrics "Can you fake it, for just one more show?" may refer to the band's experience headlining the 1994 Lollapalooza festival, with Corgan calling it the "old job".

Zeitgeist: The Movie is a 2007 film by Peter Joseph presenting a number of conspiracy theories. The film's introduction features animations, footage of war, explosions, and the September 11 attacks and audio quotes from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and George Carlin. Part I claims that the Christian religion is mainly derived from other religions, astronomical assertions, astrological myths, and other traditions. In furtherance of the Jesus myth hypothesis, this part disputes the historicity of Jesus, who, it claims, is a literary and astrological hybrid, nurtured by political forces and opportunists. In 1972 they recorded their third album Dingly Dell, but the band were unhappy with the initial production and remixed it themselves. It was released in September 1972 and entered the Top 10 in the first week, receiving lukewarm reviews. The ecologically themed single "All Fall Down" was a UK Singles Chart No. 34 hit and the second single "Court in the Act" failed completely.

Tucker and Baiyewu felt they needed some kind of spiritual lift. Tucker also remembered the tunes he had heard in the club where he worked, like "Promised Land" by Joe Smooth. He drew inspiration from these song into the new song. The duo had a lot of worries in the writing-process. They worried that the record company would drop them. These thought also fed into the lyrics of "Lifted". They sent a tape of the new song to Polydor and they loved it.

In 1998 John Prine was diagnosed with neck cancer, undergoing radiation treatment and physical therapy. Fifteen years later, he discovered he had cancer in his lungs, which was removed during surgery. He wrote this song about some of the things he's had to give up following his illness. I'm gonna have a cocktail, vodka and ginger ale I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's 9 miles long! Prine told Uncut: "I wrote that song because I figure there's no cancer in heaven. So when I get up there, I'm going to have a cocktail and a cigarette that's 9 miles long. That's my idea of what heaven is like."

Angus Young stated in the liner notes of the 2003 re-release of The Razors Edge: It started off from a little trick I had on guitar. I played it to Mal and he said 'Oh, I've got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.' We built the song up from that. We fiddled about with it for a few months before everything fell into place. Lyrically, it was really just a case of finding a good title ... We came up with this thunder thing, based on our favorite childhood toy ThunderStreak, and it seemed to have a good ring to it. AC/DC = Power. That's the basic idea.

In 2002, the song was chosen to be the winner's single for the first series of Pop Idol and was recorded by the three finalists: Will Young, Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh. Jay Parrino performed the song during the semi-finals of Australia's Got Talent 2009. With his 'one man band' act he recorded live drums into a loop station then played guitar and sang over the top. This arrangement has a swinging 12/8 shuffle feel which is different from the original.

During the musical, Mercury performed the song as a duet with Cliff Richard; this was last time Mercury sang live in concert; his last performance would be Barcelona in 1988 with Montserrat Caballé, but this performance was lip-synced.

Blackwell wrote the song at the offices of Shalimar Music in 1956 after Al Stanton, one of Shalimar's owners, shaking a bottle of Pepsi at the time, suggested he write a song based on the phrase "all shook up." At slightly over 17 minutes, it occupies the entire second side of the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album. The lyrics are simple, and heard only at the beginning and the end. According to drummer Ron Bushy, organist-vocalist Doug Ingle wrote the song one evening while drinking an entire gallon of Red Mountain wine. When the inebriated Ingle then played the song for Bushy, who wrote down the lyrics for him, he was slurring his words so badly that what was supposed to be "in the Garden of Eden" was interpreted by Bushy as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

He did position himself FOR improving Obama Care instead of tearing it down (Trump) or starting all over (the other Dem candidates). Don't misunderstand, I'm in favor of singe payer. How do you think the Dem nominee can best hammer Trump on health care ? As (progressive) popular as Medicare For All is, the economics are a hard sell. IMO, Bidens' position is not a bad one in a debate with Trump.
