The Sound of Silence (Original Version from 1964) [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 19, 2020:
The song was written by Paul Simon over several months in 1963 and 1964. Having performed together previously under the name Tom and Jerry in the late 1950s, their partnership had since dissolved when they began attending college. In 1963, they regrouped and began performing Simon's original compositions locally in Queens. They billed themselves "Kane & Garr", after old recording pseudonyms
I downloaded this album by Weezer titled TEAL(2019).

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart wrote the song after the Tourists had broken up and they formed Eurythmics. Although the two of them also broke up as a couple, they continued to work together. According to Stewart, he managed to produce the beat and riff of the song on one of their new synthesisers, and Lennox, on hearing it, said: "What the hell is that?" and started playing on another synthesiser, and beginnings of the song came out of the two duelling synths.
Here's another great song that is a celebration of music.

Written by Conley and Otis Redding, it is based on the Sam Cooke song "Yeah Man" from his posthumous album Shake
Remember Joan Baez?
FearlessFly comments on Jan 18, 2020:
In 2010, when she was invited to perform at a White House celebration of music from the civil-rights era, Baez refused a request, from Michelle Obama, to sing “If I Had a Hammer.” “That is the most annoying song,” Baez says. “I told them, ‘If I had a hammer – I’d hit myself on the head. Ain’t gonna do it.’ ”
This is my second post in the category of music that praises music.

Written by Paul Stookey, James Mason and Dave Dixon. Tthe song's lyrics reference contemporary rock artists including the Mamas & the Papas, Donovan, and the Beatles. The song parodies and satirizes the vocal style of the Mamas & the Papas in the first verse, Donovan in the second verse and the Beatles in the third verse.

FearlessFly comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Stokes immortalized himself in Chicago by throwing a US$200,000 party on his 30th wedding anniversary in 1985 and for the decadent funeral he arranged for his murdered 28-year-old son, Willie "the Wimp" Stokes, Jr. in February 1984. Song was written by the Austin-based songwriter Bill Carter and his wife/songwriting partner Ruth Ellsworth.
