FearlessFly comments on Jan 9, 2020:
The lyrics tell the story of a man who sees a pretty woman walking by. He yearns for her and wonders if, as beautiful as she is, she might be lonely like he is. At the last minute, she turns back and joins him. The title was inspired by Orbison's wife, Claudette, interrupting a conversation to announce she was going out. When Orbison asked if she had enough cash, his co-writer Bill Dees interjected, "A pretty woman never needs any money."

Rod Stewart - Maggie May [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 8, 2020:
"Maggie May" expresses the ambivalence and contradictory emotions of a boy involved in a relationship with an older woman and was written from Stewart's own experience. In the January 2007 issue of Q magazine, Stewart recalled: "Maggie May was more or less a true story, about the first woman I had sex with, at the 1961 Beaulieu Jazz Festival." The woman's name was not "Maggie May"; Stewart has stated that the name was taken from "an old Liverpudlian song about a prostitute."

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/america-first-ku-klux-klan-slogan/ "Despite their embrace of the slogan, however, there is no evidence that the Ku Klux Klan invented it, as has sometimes been alleged. There are instances of its use by politicians predating any examples we’ve found directly attributable to the Klan. President Woodrow Wilson ran for re-election on an “America first” platform in 1916, for example, in that instance using the phrase to remind voters that his isolationist stance had kept U.S. troops out of the burgeoning conflict in Europe (nevermind that he abandoned that position and sent them to fight in World War I during his second term). A popular song called “America First!” was dedicated to Wilson and published in 1917. For that matter, Presidents Calvin Coolidge, Warren G. Harding, and William McKinley all used the catchphrase at one time or another to promote isolationist and/or protectionist foreign policies (we found an instance of McKinley being touted as having an “America first” agenda as long ago as 1896)."

As I have commented before, science never **proves** anything (there is always some uncertainty). It can **disprove** things, but IIUC, science is predicated on falsifiability (and reliability, repeatability). The existence/non of god(s) never fits this criteria.
Can you tell me all about Steve Lukather?
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Jeff Porcaro, who had been playing drums with Steely Dan since 1973, became a mentor to Lukather and furthered his interest in session work. Lukather's first job in the music industry was studio work with Boz Scaggs, after which Paich and Jeff Porcaro—who had become prominent session musicians in their own right—asked Lukather to join them in forming Toto in 1976 along with Bobby Kimball, David Hungate, and Steve Porcaro.
Sugar - Gift I always try to see Bob Mould when he's on tour. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Sugar was an American alternative rock band of the early 1990s. Formed in 1992, they were led by the singer and guitarist Bob Mould (ex-Hüsker Dü), alongside bassist David Barbe (ex-Mercyland) and drummer Malcolm Travis (ex-Human Sexual Response).
Massive attack of homesickness. This helps a little This is the Sea Waterboys [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Mike Scott, the album's principal songwriter and leader of The Waterboys, describes This Is the Sea as "the record on which I achieved all my youthful musical ambitions", "the final, fully realised expression of the early Waterboys sound", influenced by The Velvet Underground, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, and Steve Reich.
A no longer extant group but a favorite nonetheless, Davy Knowles has both the licks and the voice.
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Back Door Slam is the name of the blues rock band started by Davy Knowles on the Isle of Man in 2003–04. The band got its name from a Robert Cray song of the same name.

(from gmforever.com) There were all sorts of fantastic things written before then and since then. They’re really just my personal choices and I wanted something that would suit a very gentle delivery – and to maybe use some strings and woodwind.

With one boot in Cowboy music and the other in Swing, the Hot Texas Swing Band is riding the trail previously blazed by artists such as Bob Wills and Asleep at the Wheel. Backed by a passion for traditional Western Swing, the Hot Texas Swing Band pushes the genre forward with Rockabilly, Latin beats and original material for high-energy shows that have critics and fans raving.

Also consisting of bassist Sakae, drummer Hiro and keyboardist Anna, they made their live debut on August 1 at Meguro Rock-May-Kan. Their debut album, A Light in the Black, was released on August 12 and includes re-recordings of three Destrose songs.
Billy Preston - Nothing from nothing. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Preston performed "Nothing from Nothing" later on Saturday Night Live—the first musical performance ever on the show. The song was also used in late 2002 for all GM brand commercials, and prominently featured in the 2008 film Be Kind Rewind.

"Live and Let Die" is the theme song of the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die, performed by the British–American rock band Wings. Written by English musician Paul McCartney and his wife Linda McCartney, it reunited McCartney with former Beatles producer George Martin, who produced the song and arranged the orchestra. McCartney was contacted to write the song by the film's producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli before the screenplay was finished.

FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
The meaning of "Yallah", the title of which was changed to "The Truth Explodes" on the "No Quarter" video is from arabic. The root of it is "ya-allah", a rough translation of which is "Oh God" although not in the commonly used way it is in English, to express one's surprise or amazement. In Arabic the meaning can vary from "Let's go!" to "Get a hike!" depending on the context. Interestingly, "Yahweh" is Hebrew for "God"
If you've never watched "Into the Wild", take some time this weekend to watch and listen.
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
Director Sean Penn hand-picked Vedder to provide the music for the film. Previously, Vedder had contributed two songs to the soundtrack for the 1995 film Dead Man Walking and a cover of the Beatles' "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" to the soundtrack for the 2001 film I Am Sam, both of which starred Penn.

FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
The song was inspired in part by the Indian guru Sathya Sai Baba, whose followers believe him to have been a miracle worker. It was also inspired in part by a woman Balin was in love with at the time.
[youtu.be] A follow up from my post yesterday....L.A. Woman. - The Doors.
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
L.A. Woman closes its first side with the title track, the lengthiest song on the album. Thought of as Morrison's final goodbye to Los Angeles, it communicated his mixed feelings of passion and disdain for "the city of night". The lyrics feature an anagram for Morrison: "Mr. Mojo Risin'".
One of the best Stones covers ever, imho. Tumbling Dice [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Jan 2, 2020:
An early version of "Tumbling Dice", called "Good Time Women", was recorded in 1970 during the sessions for Sticky Fingers. The song is a bluesy boogie-woogie, with heavy emphasis on Ian Stewart's piano work.
