I have never been to a cowboy church, but back in the day I was likely to show up anywhere that I felt was safe! Alone or invited, I attended black churches where people went into trances and passed out! I wanted to know anything and everything! I just remembered, attending a lecture at the old Atlanta Civic Ctr, alone...when Richard Leakey, was starting his work, and had not found the record of violence in man from the archeology. That was back in my other lifetime...thanks for prompting my memories of what I previously considered a very limited life experience!

I believe that some things 'die' because they have seved their purpose. If people could stop pointing blame in all directions and at each other, healing would take place quicker and we would get on to the next 'thing.' without guilt. That is a hard thing to teach, because people in any kind of pain, often times lash out at other people, their god, their dog/cat, car, trees...sometimes ANY inanimate object! Oh! I forgot...sometimes, we lash out at ourselves!! My belief is that if we had good parenting as a child, there would be little "lashing out', going on in adulthood! Ofcourse, that would be the ideal...

I try and present my opinions to the elderly in a way that will not agitate them. There is a fine line balance for being supportive to this type person, and voicing strong opinions against injustice! I still try and find away, though...(I am one of them now).

Read...and then read some more! Then I got to a point, that I didn't devour books and articles, anymore. But, I believe all that reading helped me in ways that I can't describe. I read a book now and again, but not like the past. Also, in my case, I only read non-fiction.

The advice that I would give is... if you are keeping company with someone and you are having difficulty keeping yourself 'straight' in your own mind...that is going to be an unequal balanced relatiinship. You may or may not teach this person much, because this may be a brain limitation. So if you can share, without expecting much in return, it will take some of the pressure off. You must be prepared to give the most and if you are not up to it, it is best for all envloved to limit your time with this particular person. I was a private duty nurse for many years, when I was caring for others, I had to put my personal needs on hold. I had to give my patient my attention. Sometimes it was most taxing, so I had to make sure I got my rest and spent time with other people, that cared for me! All relationship are work, some more than others and you must decide what YOUR limits are. Some relationship are too much for us! I had to decline a few patients, because I simply was not up to what would be expected of me! Best of luck...

Your ideas make a lot of sense to me. I have given a lot of thought about crime and punishment, too. I believe if it was a more set cultural practice, it possibly would lower crime over the long run. Because, from childhood you would learn the 'ways' of punishment for your mistakes. Like a seed planted in the mind! But, this will hardly apply to crimes committed by a mentally ill person. They too, should make amends, but how? That leaves acts committed in the heat of passion, that the planted seed of knowledge...failed to deter! On the whole, I believe we would create a more cohesive social order, when clear norms are in place. Not simply a law, that you will be put to death, if you commit murder! (That is but one.) The present system in this country...weighs heavily on how good (or clever), your attorney is and luck with the jury pool. Remember how trials are sometimes moved to another location, in order to get a different jury pool? So lack of money, is going to put a heavy 'weight' on a 'just' outcome! Not to mention who and how well informed the people on the jury are? And, in this country, certain geographical areas have people with a completely different mind sets, as to social norms (religions)! Sure, we have laws (upon laws), and a judge is intrusted to instruct the jury, but here again...even a judge can hold a different opinion about any law! Look at our Supreme Court! Something should be developed that carries more equal weight, regardless of your financial standing in our society...where justice is concerned.

That's the silliest question I have seen lately! I just never attached my sexuality to my religion. Although, it did appear it was supposed to be shunned as much as possible by the church teachings! The Politican who encourages the person to sign up for military service that is specifically for war, is first on my list! The politician deceives with 'serve your country and fight for our freedoms' and other incentives (if one survives), like education, healthcare and even a career in the military! Politicans (and others), glorify sacrificing family members for war...for our 'freedoms!' If a person should choose this route, he has a responsibility...if he must kill to protect self and others, that is one thing...but to kill just to be killing...is NOT ethically and morally right. I joined up with several groups, and it only got worse. (And I know their ways.) So I took drastic action, and I can't believe that living is this much fun! The Unitarian Universalist is the only one that I know of...they are sparse! Mostly, in or near big cities. Another is The Church Of Religious Science, which teaches that there is a power in the Universe available to all of us. They are as scarce as 'hens teeth'...but are completely acceptable for non-believers! Maybe, you could start something? Good luck

I am so sorry @Clare. Sure you miss her, sure you are hurting! There is nothing that you can do just now...but attend to the hurting. It will subside in time and all that you will be left with is the 'love,' that you and your wife shared. That will, just become a part of your nature and you will carry on and build a life that fits...now! It will get better. I have no partner to loose in death, but I am loosing friends and family. I believe the love that we share with 'special' people, never dies within us...and in some way, helps us to carry on, once we get past the 'shock' of it all. And, I will add, it comes and goes in intensity. Just today, I was very sad about my friend that 'left' over the holidays...of all times! I am retired now, but I have grown middle age children, still in the work place and ALL of them report stress...a lot of stress! The only thing that I can say, is the need to have fun and to do light hearted things, outside work! It does help! The work stress, cannot be handled with the stroke of ONE brush. It is individual...to each person and even different work places! Good luck...I wish that I could say something that could help...but I have nothing.

It could be the cause of suffering (shaming) in your situation , I too, spent a lot of time, studying the different religions and the 'take-away' for me was...once you join-up, with any one group or sect, then you are set apart from all the others! That is the reason I have so much difficulty joining any group...I just want to be part of the 'human race,' not one group! But, most power, is in numbers not singular!

You present a hard question. I have observed mental illness created out of religion. As for what can be done about people who refuse to get medical attention for children...that must be handled by legal action. Because, these parents can't get passed a belief system, that holds them hostage. We still protect the vulnerable in this country...at least in theory, coupled with a little action, here and there! Education is being 'dumbed down,' now that we have DeVos...who knows what it will be like, if she is there 3 more years? This is too much to contemplate all at once...

What has happened to 'separation of Church and State?' This reminds me of how Christians use certain text from the Bible to fit THEIR 'point of veiw!' That will not stand up in court. It seems like a constant battle trying to maintain, what I have always believed was laid out in our Constitution! Sometimes, I question if i understand the Constitution!

I would never respect anyone, 'always.' I don't disrespect someone, simply because they 'disrespected' me. I cannot pity someone simply because they sought a position, that is challenging for them. I can, appreciate their 'struggles,' however, and would not undermine, without just cause.

I cannot support the death penalty, except in 'depraved' circumstances. That would be for a person, that could be shown to have no regard for human beings and possibly all life. In my past, I have been privy to horrific damage, even murder! But, the people were not 'depraved' and I had background information that could shed light on how it could have come about! I also, spent a lot of time studying human nature! Healing can and does take place, even from horrific circumstances. I can't support putting mentally ill people to death. I realize there is a fine line, between the 'depraved' and the mentally ill, but I am a humane person and we can remove people from society, for safe keeping.

I wonder if Islam, has been highjacked by extremist, right before our very eyes, just as cleverly as our democracy is being highjacked? Back in the day when I was exploring all religions, I attended lectures and even Islamic retreats and I remember nothing that was harmful or even extreem, in it. I lived in apartment complex, where many Muslims resided and they were normal people! If you compare it to the Evangelicals, who's views have fallen into the extreem...it is easy to see how Islamic extreemism has just progressed further into radicalism than the Evangelicals! I spent years in the fundamentalist religion and although it taught (sometimes with slight of hand), the concept of 'believing on the name of Jesus, in order to gain salvation,' or 'you would end up in hell,' ...they didn't 'rage' or threaten to shoot people over it! At this moment, I know people (some are my own family) that will look me in the eye with such disdain, on issues with their religion, that they COULD easily harm me! This was not my experience in the past! I call that radicalized! There must be millions of Muslims, in this country right now and they are not terrorizing people! No one person has THE insight! A lot of information must be gathered, in order to get a perspective on this or anything else! You must work past personal biases, as we all have them. That takes time and work and I have not found a lot of people in that process! Instead they take the word, of a clever tougue! It is not only facts...that persuades. ..it is the person with the 'silver' tougue THAT has the 'truth' and GIVES it freely...that we need to beware of!

First I might say...I have been keeping tract of trump since his 20s, (one of his wives came from GA) he simply is not a 'straight shooter (an upright person). And this alone would turn me off. Second, you need some experience with personility disorders, so that you can see, where trump, is coming from! The most imporant part, is his lack of understanding of the 'common man,' as in humanity! As for passing laws, he has passed only one, the tax cut, which benifits mostly the rich! The rest have just been Obama, reversals, doesn't matter if they were a benifit or not! And, lastly and more importantly, he does not make decisions out of his own mind, he is swayed by the people who are blinded by power and that can change from one day to the next! A country is not made up of power, and money! It is made up of PEOPLE who have power and money! I might add here, that I never use drama to determine serious matters. And, I make a point to get my news, without drama! I go to the movies for drama! I need my feet planted in reality, to decide anything that is as important as governing a Country! I am not convienced...trump is not my president! I guess, 'shiney' objects have NEVER held much appeal to me! But good luck in your persuading others...
