Since, I have a long background with alcoholism (2 husbands, 2 children, brother and several friends), I can say with pretty much certainty that you are not going to get to the bottom of why the ‘negativity’ has such a hold on you, until you get away from the alcohol. But, you probably already know this, and maybe the prospect of being your true self is more freighting than holding onto an addiction that is sucking the life right out of you! I wish that I had the magic words, that would convince you, to honor yourself and drop the crutch that wants to take you under. You will never find your ‘true nature’ by using alcohol to block it out. Yes, it would be frightening, at first to change and it does take work, but there is help out there and you learn to appreciate your life instead of wanting to destroy it! You must work with your brain and develop senseable coping skills. If you are tormented, what good is alcohol doing for you? Wouldn’t it be better for your brain to operate without being altered with alcohol? Then you could correct faulty thinking and it would last. Alcohol prevents that process from taking place. This is the only life, that you are going to get...just remember that!

@callmedubious Before you make a final decision, I would suggest that you ask your Dr for an anti-depressant. No matter what you are facing, being depressed goes against you. And depression comes easily, with illness.
The thing that I have considered...if it comes to leaving on my own terms...I will tell all my family and friends, what i want to do. And I know that I would most likely have a head-on-collision, with many of them...but no matter how/when I expire they will be sad and there is nothing I can say or do about that. But, I do believe that should I leave on my own terms without their knowledge, their life would never be the same! I can at least prevent that. Your life does matter...

@callmedubious Before you make a final decision, I would suggest that you ask your Dr for an anti-depressant. No matter what you are facing, being depressed goes against you. And depression comes easily, with illness.
The thing that I have considered...if it comes to leaving on my own terms...I will tell all my family and friends, what i want to do. And I know that I would most likely have a head-on-collision, with many of them...but no matter how/when I expire they will be sad and there is nothing I can say or do about that. But, I do believe that should I leave on my own terms without their knowledge, their life would never be the same! I can at least prevent that. Your life does matter...

@MichaelCooley2 they still have those ‘ranchetts’ and they are still reasonable. I came thru in the 80s,90s and I wanted to move to Las Cruces (50 miles away). . But, people discovered it and it is now, too big for me. They have 3 hospitals and I believe, a new one under construction! I go there if I need medical attention. We have a hospital and if I have an emergency, I go here.
As for businesses, we have all that here, even wal-mart. I like the fact that I have unlimited sky in every direction. It is colder than I had expected, (6 thousand ft, altitude), especially when the winds come. The wind is good in the summer, as it keeps the heat down. The beautiful Gila Forest is less than 50 miles and you can get to anywhere else from here, easily.
In the 4 years that I have been here, the growth seems the same to me, maybe because retirees make up a large portion of the citizens and we die off!😛

I just read an article with input from a Nerological Dr, and it is believed that trump has Frontal Lobe brain deterioration, in addition to his narcissism disorder. And, that it will continue to get worse, and it is not treatable. He will continue with real dementia and this one Dr, believes he want even be able to run by the end of this year! He pointed out that trump has been wearing a body brace (I had noted that his body looked stiff sometimes), and he is making a lot of ‘word salad!’ When This happens Trump will just keep on going like nothing happened, because he does not realize what is happening! So if we can stay safe, until the end of this year, it looks like trump’s gig is up!

There was physical fighting between my parents often. Other Family did not interact with us, maybe because of their own poverty. Neighbor, putting my parents in jail, shooting my 7 yr old brother with buck shot! We had to stay in jail cell with parents as we had no place to go! In the course of my whole childhood, I never heard one person comfort me and tell me ‘everything is going to be alright! This is the very short version! Lol. After I became aware of the depth of my deprivation I spent half my life rebuilding my brain into something that supported me! With a whole lot of help, I must add!
I am so glad to know that You had a great childhood, because I tend to take on the ‘hurts’ of others...and it gets very tiring, after a while! @JackPedigo did you read that article that was posted about trump being a ‘sponge’ soaking up information on how people can brought over to his side (paraphrasing)...my thinking is, if his father was as bad as reported, trump would have taken on his characteristics like a sponge even as a child? Our children do what we do...and not what we tell them, if our behavior and our words don’t match! (Not 100%, but mostly.)

I would kind of block the information instead of contemplating it. I realize that is not fair as I believe in redemption! My own Evangelical niece, thought New Mexico, was in Mexico! She ran her own Real-estate business for years. So she isn’t dumb. Just ‘eat up’ with that good old time religion! And voted for trump, because the church instructed it be done!
