GeorgeRocheleau comments on Jan 14, 2018:
I could boycott he mall, but I don't see how it would have any effect since I haven't been in Texas in 25 years. If he owns the mall, he can do it. He is also free to reap the good or ill that comes from his actions.

GeorgeRocheleau comments on Jan 14, 2018:
I'm sure the celebration of Christmas was tied to the winter solstice. Solstice makes more sense to me, but I wouldn't mind if all the happy holiday horseshit went away and left me alone.

GeorgeRocheleau comments on Jan 14, 2018:
I usually just ignore it. most of my friends that would ask me are not close friends, and it would not bother me if they unfriend me over it, but most of them don't notice my non response.

It is already legal in some parts of this country. It is widespread in much of the rest. It should become legal to reduce the influence of the criminal element.

GeorgeRocheleau comments on Jan 7, 2018:
I know a few people like that, convinced the world is 6000 years old, all the layers in the Grand Canyon were laid down during the time of Noah, all that happy horseshit. I don't spend any more time with them than I have to.

I used to design car audio equipment. The engineers weren't especially religious, but the company did most of their hiring through the LDS church. It made for an odd dynamic.
People tell me there is no such as atheism.
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 30, 2017:
The one I hear the most is, "You don't believe in God, so that means you worship Satan." Most of the religious people I have talked to about it received there information from somebody pushing a message of fear or misinformation.

Can you be agnostic and still think evil exists?
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 28, 2017:
Evil is a social construct we impose on people. Do I believe all societies have the same standard of evil? No, I do not. Do I believe there are evil people? Yes. Do I believe in an external, malevolent force that we would call evil? No.

I'm an Atheist, but being here alone tonight, my loved ones dead or very far away really sucks.
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 25, 2017:
This time of year has been hard for me ever since my wife died. This is especially true since the anniversary of her death starts the holiday season, and to me, the holidays have always been about spending time with the people close to you. The traditional forced jolliness does not help a bit.

My dad was an atheist, my mom was not. I went a few years to Catholic school before we moved to a small town where that wasn't possible. When I started thinking about it, I realized I didn't believe any of that stuff. Knowing that my dad didn't believe any of it either made it easier to accept.

GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 5, 2017:
The only time I remember enjoying Christmas music and decorations was when I was in China. It wasn't very common and was always so unexpected and a bit bizarre. I hate Christmas music, I hate Christmas traffic. Two nights ago I spent 1-1/2 hours getting out of a mall parking lot. Some of the lights are pretty.
Do you think dreams have any real meaning?
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 4, 2017:
Your dreams incorporate fragments of your thoughts and memories, so in that respect they have some relevance to you. There is evidence that animals dream, and dreaming must perform some necessary function for the brain, otherwise it would not exist. But I don't believe it has any function associated with seeing the future.
Are you an open or closet agnostic/atheist, and why?
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 4, 2017:
If I am asked, I tell people. I will only voluteer that information if the other person is assuming I am a Christian and is using my lack of comments as agreeing to thier point of view. As in "We are all Christians here.". "Um, I'm not a Christian". Tends to kill a conversation pretty quickly.

"The Room" Secretly a masterpiece?
GeorgeRocheleau comments on Dec 3, 2017:
I recently saw The Room as part of a run up promotion for "The Disaster Artist" and I'm still not sure about the film. If I went to see the film expecting to see a serious movie, I would have walked out. But I saw it, knowing it was bad. We were throwing footballs and spoons around while yelling back at the screen and that was kind of fun. It was amazing to watch the acting, directing, producing, and writing of Tommy Wiseau and realize he has absolutely no talent for any of those things.

GeorgeRocheleau comments on Nov 27, 2017:
