Convenient one-stop shopping I remember working for 7-11, in the mid 1960s.
Haemish1 comments on Aug 11, 2019:
There’s a similar store in Big Timber, Montana - with a billboard on the interstate. I know several people who believe the Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store rather than a government agency. I lived two blocks from the Radio Shack that gave you a gun, when you bought a satellite system from them.

The male octopus is much smarter. Rather than suffer the same fate as the mantis, he tears his penis off, throws it at the female octopus and swims away! The article didn’t mention if the missing appendage can be regrown, or if it’s a one shot affair.
This is a question best answered by someone in the culinary industry.
Haemish1 comments on Aug 11, 2019:
I’m reading this discussion at 4:30 am, in a truck with 3 other guys and the topic of conversation is “which gas station has the best breakfast?” In the North Dakota oilfield there are a couple places that cook eggs and bacon for their breakfast menu, but most stuff comes in shrink wrapped plastic. I’ll nuke a sweet potato and add some meat for my breakfast - stays warm for a couple hours and save a ton of money. Forgive me for getting political, but I believe this is an example of the corrosive power of money in our government. Since the 1980’s when the Sherman Antitrust Act began to be ignored our country has seen the explosion of strip malls and chain stores that have come to homogenize and dominate our landscapes. Neither party has done a thing to change it. I can’t recall which Mel Brooks movie it was, but he had an international corporation named “Engulf & Devour” - which was very prescient in my opinion.
I wonder if this was well orca strated or was it done on porpoise?

I took two years of German in high school (and remember a bit of it), and enough Spanish and Italian to know when someone is swearing at me. Two great phrases to know when you travel are - Do you speak English? followed by - Are you speaking English now? I’ve found this really helps to maintain the “ stupid American” image we’ve been cultivating so long;)
Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant 1967 [m.youtube.com]
Haemish1 comments on Aug 10, 2019:
Arlo is quite the character. I spent a summer working at a kids camp in the Berkshires, not far from the town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts (where it all took place). As head of maintenance, I got to know the owner of the local hardware store. He asked me why I’d come so far (New Mexico) to work there. I mentioned my affinity for the song, and he told me that Arlo lived fairly close by. I followed the directions he gave me and knew I’d found it when I saw a sign that read : Danger! Keep hands in the car Windows rolled up Don’t feed the teenagers!

Haemish1 comments on Aug 9, 2019:
In fairness, my reaction to the headline was that the boy was killed, when he was wounded and the shot was fired accidentally. I’m wondering if the police had a search warrant when they entered the house? Having a drawn weapon on a 12 year old, who was just woken up is hard to understand.

My guess is there’s two kinds of people who’d do that - someone who has more money and guitars than they know what to do with, or someone who lost interest in guitars (and probably life in general) I’d think that after a year, they’d become abandoned property (or some such thing).
