Haemish1 comments on May 23, 2019:
I just finished a 3 day road trip from New York to Montana. My daughter has mentioned a couple times the differences in traveling with her mother and me - she feels less like she has to be an adult with me around. She does get a bit nervous about perceived burning smells from the engine compartment- just like her mom. Definitely no shutdowns or tantrums :)

Washington becomes first state to allow human composting
Haemish1 comments on May 22, 2019:
The wood chips we generated at a timber framing company I used to work for in Montana was given to the county to compost all the road killed animals they collected. Montana seems to have pretty open laws regarding human burial. A friend who died several years ago was simply wrapped in a shroud and lowered into the ground on his skis. The state only needed to know the location of the grave site.

Haemish1 comments on May 22, 2019:
I’m not particularly close to any of my family, but there’s no animosity either - we just don’t see each other very often. We usually enjoy ourselves when we’re together. My childhood wasn’t too great - dad was an abusive alcoholic. He and my mother were married and divorced twice by the time I reached 7th grade. I always had food, and a roof over my head, but there was never a great “family vibe” either.

It’s amazing that the amount of hand work they do can be included. Skills like that aren’t common in the US. Have you read Cradle to Cradle, by William McDonough (sp?). It’s a great book about recycling/sustainability. The book itself is made of plastic- designed to be reused as a book - the ink can be washed off and reused as ink. It changed my thoughts regarding how we live.

Some amount of debt isn’t a terrible thing. We’ve had greater debt to GDP ratios in the past and survived. I think our recent tax changes are increasing the debt/deficit for all the wrong reasons. Savings bonds and treasury notes are a secure investment in US financial stability- we’ve never defaulted on our debt. The only time we’ve paid off our debt under Andrew Jackson, the lack of a safe, secure investment vehicle resulted in the worst depress in our history.
