@Besalbub there isn't a lot of cutting here so Zack is pretty much retired but when I get lucky enough to go to OK/TX my friends let me ride on cattle. I use to have some friends on 101 who had Arabians - they would let me ride when I was without a horse. I also had friends in Sealevel who had Arabians. I rode with them for years. Yes, I have led a wonderful life 😁

@Besalbub yes - it was originally to separate cows for branding. They started playing music a few years ago to make it more fun for the spectators. Matt is AMAZING! Some of the horses are on the smaller size but overall they are about 15 hands. As with all sports (including human sports) some hold up better than others. It can be hard on them but they keep the sand pretty perfect to protect them. My Zack is about to turn 20 and other than pulling a muscle in his back about 10 years ago he has never been lame. Most of these horses are taken better care of than many human children - it is an expensive sport so they take very good care of the horses.

@Besalbub this is Cutting - not exactly a rodeo - it is a show all its own. You have to cut at least 2 cow, preferably 3, in 2 minutes 30 seconds. It should look like a dance or a mirror image. If you notice the rider's hand stays on the horse's neck while working the cow. This is James Payne - really good friend and he is riding another one of my friend's horse PG Heavily Armed. Love the last photo! You livr Uhawrie (sp) Mountains? I tracied my family bach to that area in NC. Was there in the National forest a few years and saw my Great-Great Grandfathers grave. Nice area.

We're starting to see it here, too, with swarms of robins (yes, unusual!) gathering nesting material. I also saw two hummers zipping around today. Very strange fall & early winter here!

I had to research - I found Uwharrie Mountains. They are a bit south east of Winston-Salem / Greensboro. I am closer to the Blue Ridge Mountains. I am about 40 minutes east of Boone, NC
