These decisions are always difficult. I have a similar story which may help you. My Jack Russell - who will be 13 in March, lost an eye (when she was 3), stuck a stick in her good eye (when she was 5) so she is basically blind. Anyway - a little over a year ago she started getting sick - ended up having tons of tests, xrays & a MRI to find what it was. Pancreatic stone - vet said emergency surgery - price tag starts at $5000.00. Yes you read that right. After I got over the fear, gut punch and basic how am I going to do this. I called the vet and asked for alternative options - any kind of medicine or anything else. She said she didn't think there was any but she would do some research. 2 days later I got a call - she had called a specialist (emailed copies of the mri) and they decided a human medicine may break it up. Needless to say $100.00 & 6 months of medicine later it was gone. That was last July - no sign of it returning. So, my point in all of this - ask for options. There may be more than what it seems. Maybe call a different vet and see if they have any recommendations or the animal shelter (they see so many things - it is possible they know of something that may help).

This old shot brings back another memory, the next shot was of the inside of the next big wave, me ...
