LINKDid you see photos of officers supposedly injured last weekend in NW cities? The facts don’t check out - oregonlive.com
The Associated Press checks out some of the most popular but completely untrue stories and visuals of the week. This one is bogus, even though it was shared widely on social media. Here are the facts: CLAIM: Photos show four police officers who were injured by Democrats and Black Lives Matter rioters over the weekend in Portland, Seattle and nearby cities. THE FACTS: The officers in the photos weren’t injured at U.S. protests — in fact, they were on the other side of the world.

LINKWill Covid Get Worse During the Winter?
I have been thinking along these lines. The company I now work for is totally remote until January 2021. (except for a handful of people that have to be in the buildings, including security. IT folks are there for newbies picking up equipment and the established folks having issues or needing replacements.) My company is an Omaha landmark with prime real estate. It is so strange to see the parking lots empty. Anyway, I don't think COVID is going to go away, how is that going to change life as ...

LINKOpinion | One nation ‘under God’? More and more Americans don’t think so. - The Washington Post
In the United States, one of the most consequential cultural changes of our time may be the swift and seemingly accelerating decline of religious commitment. Historically, Americans have recorded relatively high levels of worship-service attendance and belief in God, as compared with their peers in advanced industrial societies such as Europe or Japan. The U.S. example seemed to show that faith could survive in an environment dominated by science and technology. A forthcoming book by ...

A bit dated (2018) but very timely. From the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center). LINKWe are witnessing the fall of a great power | The Canberra Times | Canberra, ACT
Just how rotten is the United States' political system? The answer is rotten, as in it will only take a small kick for the whole edifice to fall in, let alone a big kick like COVID-19. The idea is about as fanciful as the collapse of the Soviet empire seemed in 1987, when President Ronald Reagan famously demanded: "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall." Yet, a short time later, a little chink in the Iron Curtain at the Hungary-Austria border saw the whole rotten regime collapse.
