I need HELP.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
Well, you don't have to get it up to please the widows....
My father died today.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
I am sorry for your loss. People who don't think they will be good parents or don't want to be parents should not have kids so that was a good decision on your part. If you had kids there would be no guarantee they'd be available for you when you need help due to age issues. I've known lots of folks with kids who regret having them or the kids were not there for them when needed. Your dad likely did the best he could given how his dad was and the era he grew up in. I'm glad you were able to forge a relationship with him. I hope things get better for you on all fronts.
This is for the ladies who are in this group.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
I prefer not to be called dear by someone whom I've just met. I think it is paternalistic and condescending.
Name something...... mine is a dehumidifier.🤪

Good Morning My Fellow Hippies.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
When I was off work during the winter I did go through stuff and get rid of lots of stuff. It feels good. I sold some on eBay, I've given lots to charity drop boxes, and I have thrown away loads. Right now I keep shoes only if they fit and are comfortable for the whole day. My wardrobe turned over while I was off because I lost weight so I got rid of all the too large stuff. I had smaller clothing in storage that is now in use. I purged closets, and cabinets. I had many "what was I thinking" moments. I considered it a start on my "death cleaning." I got rid of (and am still getting rid of) stuff my kids won't want to deal with when I am gone.

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
I think the penalties should be harsher for texting while driving. When you text you are (presumably) stone cold sober and you KNOW you are deliberately making a choice to drive distracted.
Just curious, did anybody think this group would be this big, back when it was created?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2019:
Good question! The short answer is no. When Admin wanted to start groups he saw my proclivity for posting Anti Trumps stuff and suggested I start this group. I was pleased at the response from the site, but I really didn't even think about the future and how long we'd last. I've always been really bad at predicting the future. I keep hoping I will wake up one morning and find out the last few years have been a bad dream. Except for the good stuff, I want to keep that. Two of my daughters and I attended the first Women's March when the youngest was at home with her baby, and I dedicated our walk to them. This is my life, I am dedicated to making the world better for that baby and her younger baby cousin. As long as Drumpf is a clear and present danger to the future of the world I will host this group and do my small part to make people aware of what a POS he is.

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 1, 2019:
When my kids were little one of them told their "Papa" their father's dad that she loved him. And he replied that same way. I took it to be mostly a generational thing, but terribly sad nonetheless.

I love good books. I belong to a book club that is part of our Omaha Metropolitan Area Humanists Association. We read a variety of books, but this looks like it would be a good fit for us. I'm reading a book right now that I also want to recommend to our club, ****Fantasyland, How America Went Haywire - A 500 Year History by Kurt Andersen. Explains how the influences of dreamers, zealots, hucksters, and superstitious groups shaped America's tendency toward a rich fantasy life, citing the roles of individuals from P.T. Barnum to Donald Trump in perpetuating conspiracy theories, self-delusion, and magical thinking****. I take the book to work with me and read at lunch. One of the managers comes by, sees the cover, takes my book and says "follow me." We have just moved into a new building. He takes me to one of the conference rooms which is the Andersen room, with the author's picture on the wall. The conference rooms in this building are named for local celebrities. The author is from Omaha. Another conference room is the Brando room. And I did get my book back.
So a man messaged me for the first time on a dating site today.

For years and years and years my choice of pizza was Pizza Hut Super Supreme Pan Pizza. I remember when we lived in Germany we took a trip to Brussels, and there was a Pizza Hut near our hotel. Yes, we ate Pizza Hut in Brussels. We also ate at some of the local restaurants but we hadn't had PH since we arrived in Germany. I gave up all products made with flour 5 years ago when the medical folks thought I was gluten intolerant. Turns out I'm not gluten intolerant, but I never got back in the pizza habit. If there is pizza I will partake of anything not spicy.

My table gets decorated, and undecorated by my roommates, Xena and Zelda. I did have my SIL paint my Dining room table white, and then I put a stencil in it. The cats can't knock that off. Decorating with kitty girls is impossible, so I gave that up.

I'm the mom of three adult daughters. The girls were brought up going to church, youth group, summer camps and all that. Well, just because I was an xian, I didn't turn my brains off. As soon as I thought there was a chance they were going to be sexually active I got them on birth control pills. In theory (at least what we told dad) was that it was to regulate their periods/cramps/heavy flow. So my advice to you is protect yourself. Babies are wonderful but they suck the energy right out of you. Go out, have fun, try new things, but don't bring home any life changing souvenirs. Know your potential partner, do they have any STDs? Will he use condoms? I am so thankful that I was young and dumb before the explosion of STDs.

HippieChick58 comments on May 27, 2019:
I grew up in Grand Island, NE in a house that was nearly 80 years old when I lived in it. Still had the old fuse boxes and occasionally would have a nickel where a fuse should be. We didn't have AC, and all the kids' bedrooms were upstairs. I'm not sure how we survived, but we did. My current house (built in 2002) was without AC for about 3 days in July 3 years ago. I only needed to get through the weekend and it would be replaced. I thought I was tough enough to deal with it, I was only going to need to sleep in the house as I was working 12 hour shifts that weekend. I woke up after about 3 hours of sleep and realized I was on the verge of heat exhaustion/heat stroke, the inside temp was 108°. I called the office told them I would be in late if I came in and went to the closest motel for the rest of the night and the next few days. My house does not have as many windows as older houses, in fact I have windows only on the north and south sides. And I'm not used to sleeping with windows open. My old blind kitty had to stay in the hot house, I made sure she had plenty of cool water. I'm still paying off the HVAC replacement and the new tankless water heater I had put in at the time. That will be paid off this summer.
I love my garden....

I work in the billing office of a pediatric hospital. Alllllll the restrooms have posters about hand hygiene. They really really stress hand hygiene. So 10 years ago I was at the sink washing up prior to returning to work, and one of the other staff came out of her stall and skipped the sinks.... I made it a point to never take a paper or anything else from her. Sooooo fast forward 10 years, she is still here. She doesn't remember me. In my current position I have nothing to do with her, but I will always remember she skipped washing her hands, It still grosses me out.

As a kid when my family did take a trip we packed lunches, there were 6 kids, 3 teenaged boys. My folks could not afford a restaurant with us. As an adult when my kids were small we did pack lunches for a few trips. It allowed the kids to run around while we had lunch, and we used rest areas. One in Kentucky had an awesome play area and the kid played too hard after eating... Yeah I needed another rest area and barf bag for her. As a single adult with grown kids I haven't had a road trip in a while, and last time I did take a road trip I don't think we stopped at any rest areas. We used restrooms at gas stations and restaurants along the way. I always carry healthy emergency snacks with me anyway. Now it makes me want to go out and scope out the nearest rest areas.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
