Fathers and daughters
HippieChick58 comments on Dec 26, 2018:
My ex (father of my children) is NOTHING like my father. My dad was abusive and ignorant as hell. My ex is highly intelligent, and condescending. My dad told me he would not support me going to college, I didn't need college, I should just get married and have babies. I joined the Army instead. My ex was a good dad most of the time, not always available to the kids. He did push for them to go to college, to get a good skill for life. The thing that I'd emphasize is kids take an enormous amount of time and usually when it is most inconvenient. I had good conversations with my teenaged daughters late in the evenings. That is when I found out what was really on their minds.

His tenure in office is so much more awful than anyone imagined it would be, I think many of us, myself included are nearly numb to the shocks. Our only hope is Mueller and the new session of Congress with the House controlled by the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi. At least it is interesting times we live in, if it doesn't kill me first.

It is pretty routine that gyms have their peak periods post Christmas and New Years. How many make New Year's Resolutions to lose weight? And then by February the fortitude to change has worn off, or old habits have reasserted themselves. I stopped making New Year's Resolutions many years ago because I knew they just wouldn't stick and many times they were unrealistic. OK, more than many times. Through the year as something comes to my attention that I need to change I will work on changing it then. Like I did join a gym in October when it got too cold to do anything outdoors. I am still going to the gym usually 6 days a week, but not this week it is closed today. How long will it last, I don't have any idea. Hopefully as long as I need it to or can afford it.

Good for you!! One thing I am most thankful for was that I never picked up that habit, allergies helped keep me away from it. My addiction has been sugar. I think had I been a smoker I'd be slim, but I'd also be dead considering how much sugar I consumed under stress. Same amount of tars would have killed me.

I frequently have insomnia. Pot helps sometimes. I drink tea of chamomile, valerian, and tulsi when I remember before I go to bed. I also meditate in the mornings and before bed. There is an app I use called Calm. It has good meditations and guidance. Last time I had a bad night I ate a snack, read my book, took Benadryl, and got up and sewed until I felt the Benadry kick in. I'm not using Pot right now because I am looking for a new job, don't want to risk the drug screen. And if all else fails, I just suck it up and survive the next day with caffeine and grit.

Not everyone can be or should be paired. My aunt was a single lady, never married or had kids. I think she might have been attracted to women, for her age and small town that simply was not done. She was born 1927ish. So she worked all her life, and retired, and took care of her parents until they died. When she became incapacitated and then died I became her guardian and conservator. My brother is a single guy. He is very selfish, his way is the only way type of guy. He is currently angry with me and has cut all contact again because I won't let him push me around. He wonders why he never found a woman to date... My sister has been married over 30 years, our aunt and uncle were married almost 70 years before our uncle died and we loved spending time with them because they were so connected. Yeah, I'd like to find someone, but if I don't, I'm OK with just me, and the kitty girls.

HippieChick58 comments on Dec 23, 2018:
I think people need to do whatever makes them happy. Christmas was "celebrated" by the Japanese when I was in Okinawa 40 years ago. It amused me. They just wanted to party and give gifts, not so much the religious aspects. Who gives a rip if our fellow members are "celebrating" or not. The religious aspect is mostly lost, it is now a celebration of crass consumerism. Spend money to buy stuff to give to others and eat your heads off. I "celebrate" the holiday by enjoying my time with my family and eating stuff I don't usually eat. I don't decorate or make any changes aside to buy some gifts and some foods. That is my choice, I am comfortable with it and therefore happy. If it makes you happy to light up your house and have a tree, go for it. If your credit cards can stand the strain and you like buying gifts, go for it. Follow your bliss and let the rest of the world follow theirs. Be at peace.
Addition the home....

I told her No, I didn't have any imaginary friends living in the sky. And I thanked her for asking and headed off down the track. She looked like MY grandmother, and I'm 60. I was afraid of shocking her and having her go into heart failure. I want to get a picture taken while I'm in my Ag.com shirt with the guy that wears an orange Samaritan's Purse shirt. January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
