I think every one of us has the spark of hope, no matter how tiny, that we will really meet someone special. We all have some vulnerability. And scammers know this and use it to their advantage. Cats will take baths if they are accustomed to them from babyhood. I don't think it is wise to give a cat a bath unless kitty has something on it that is shouldn't ingest, they handle self cleaning pretty well. When I was growing up our cat got into some motor oil. My dad told my brother, younger sister and I to give it a bath. It took all three of us to get the cat into a dishpan of soapy water and get it clean. He was NOT a happy cat. He ended up a clean cat, and I think he forgave us, but we ended up almost as wet as he was.

I have done volunteer work in several communities I lived in. I delivered meals on wheels when I lived in Overland Park, KS. It is a good way to give back to the community. I have worked my various girl scout troops my kids were in and done a variety of projects. When I was a church member I organized Vacation Bible School, and worked on committees. I worked with my kids' schools on various things.

I have sworn off baking anything that I would want to eat raw (which would be cookie dough or other sweets). Little did I realize it would not only save my health by helping me lose excess weight, but it might also save my life. I grew up making double batches of cookie dough so we'd at least get a dozen or two baked.

I feel your pain. You need to take time for you, to do the things that make you happy and renew your spirit. Do you need to bake and make gifts? Yes, sometimes it is hard to find the will to go on everyday, especially when we're alone. I know that feeling of "Is this all there is?" I had it bad a few years ago. I have no idea why we're here, sometimes it does seem like punishment. What got me through was my kids still need me, if not as often. Set your boundaries, explain to your pushy students what office hours are and how to be self reliant. Make some connections in your area. Are there any Humanist groups? Meet up might be a good place to find like minded people.

To me it is really sad for those who deliberately choose to be alone. I don't understand it. My brother would be invited to family gatherings, but I laid down some rules. He has to express gratitude to the hostess and he can't criticize my driving. Nope. To me his attitude says he is the big brother, he knows better, we should be grateful for his presence. So he is 50 miles away and I haven't seen him in over a year. He never married, no kids, I am the closest relative. Another of our sisters had the same reaction from him. So he is alone for all the holidays due to his own choices. Good luck with that bro.
