Obedience to parents
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
While in HS yes they were controlling. Then I joined the Army (needed and got dad's signature) and got the hell out of Dodge. (OK, it was Grand Island, NE) Considering the situation, they would never have supported me going to college and my stepmother was a dangerous person, I was glad to get out of there. After that they had no control over me.

What does "coffee" mean to you?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
Well, for boomers, most of the time we have the old fashioned expectations. Coffee means coffee. I am told with the younger folks that guys expect sex for very little investment in a relationship.

Which one makes you feel the worst?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
Well, they all suck, but none make me feel bad. It is like when my 3 year old first born child yelled at me that she hated me. I had to bite my cheek to keep from laughing. The passion and the energy that she experienced at that moment was so cute! And I'd tell the speaker of any of those line, "Hey, it will be OK, you'll get over it."

Difference in intelligence in a relationship
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
For me, I need someone close to as intelligent as I am. Has to be a reader, and has to have an interest in life around him. If you have't read anything except as you had to to get a job it probably isn't going to work. I love learning and I have to be able to share that.

Do you or did you have a wedding song?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
The first time I married (1977?) it was by a Justice of the Peace in Leominster, Mass. His main gig was undertaker. No music, no wedding dress, just friends with us followed by dinner. The second time was 1982 in Lyngby, Denmark in front of a judge who spoke no English. There were 6 couples getting married that day, all service members from Germany. It was much easier to get married in Denmark than in Germany. No music, no family present, no fancy dress, did have flowers, but pretty much bare bones. I will never remarry due to financial implications, unless the guy is hugely rich. But I'm not likely to find that, and not sure I want that.

Whats The most frightening thing anyone’s ever said to you?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
The first was when I was told my mom had cancer. I was 14, she was 44. She died at 45. It was 1972 she had ovarian cancer. Several years later that the doctor saw a problem in the ultrasound. The first time I was pregnant the hospital had a new ultrasound and every expectant mother got at least one ultrasound. This was 1982, ultrasound was new. I was newly wed, and got pregnant really easily and quickly. Before I got pregnant I was taking Tagamet for ulcers, and that depleted my body of folic acid, which led to the baby having several neural tube defects, one of them definitely ruled out life outside the womb. We were at a military hospital and the defects were substantial enough that they suggested abortion, which I agreed to.

What is the best road trip you have ever made?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Wow, I used to take lots of road trips. Before I was married and had kids I'd take off on a whim. I had a CB radio, used to talk to truckers. I took a few with the kids, they'd get nervous when I went off on boondoggles. I need a road trip soon.
I think this is a pretty decent list of things we should consider giving up.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 16, 2018:
I'm not a man, but I passed 60 a few weeks ago. I think it has been cool to watch the changes in technology. However, I am beginning to feel like a fossil. Well, maybe not beginning. The good news was I got to be young and stupid before it was easy to record everything, cuz some of the stuff I did would embarrass my kids fer sure. For now I have made peace with my circumstances. Subject to change without notice. But it is what it is and it is what made me who I am. That goes for all of us, we wouldn't be who we are if things were different. Mine was gradual and since I moved so frequently I did not have a church community or friends in the church. My birth family was not especially religious and there aren't many of them that I am close to, and the ones I am close to were really kinda relieved. Two of my three kids are atheist, and the third I think goes to church to keep daddy happy and it is her social outlet. She sings in the choir and plays piano.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
Why does body size have any consideration to whether or not to date? You are first and foremost a person. I am a larger person as well, I have dated some. It gets harder as you get older. I struggle to understand where your question comes from, I know there are so many issues with body size and fat shaming is a thing. The best advice I have for you is first be the best you that you can be. You are wonderful and worthy just the way you are. Be happy with you, and whether or not you find a partner you will still be happy. If I overstepped my boundaries I appologize, I am a woman of size and a mom and your question apparently hit some of my Mama Bear buttons.

Do you find it attractive dating someone who smokes cigarettes?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I spent 6+ years in the Army and smoked about a pack (yes, one) in all those 6 years trying to figure out what the attraction was. Cigarettes just annoyed the heck out of my already aggravated allergies. I have dated one smoker, and probably will never do that again. My ex was a non smoker and even more anti smoking than I was. One of our kids, in her rebellious phase started smoking, and hot boxing. She got in trouble at school and got expelled for the rest of the semester. I was a stay at home mom at the time. Her punishment was worse than death. She had to quit smoking cold turkey and was grounded until she got back in school. She had to spend nearly every waking moment with ME!. She never smoked again. We nearly killed each other, but today she is an amazing responsible young adult.
