Big business lied to us, told us cigarettes were safe. Now we know that isn't true. When I joined the Army in the late '70s you got extra breaks if you smoked, cigarettes were in C-ration packages. Then we learned how wrong we were. When I left the military you couldn't smoke inside the buildings nor near doorways. Now I'm not sure if you can even smoke on post.

I used to work at the VA hospital. Once when I was in the ER they had a patient come in who would not speak to them in English but would respond in French or Spanish. One of the RNs spoke French and Spanish and tried to talk to him but he just stopped talking. Then he started to trash the exam room, so they put down the barriers so he had just his gurney area. Well then he started peeing all over. Luckily the Security Escorts arrived about then to take him to the 14th floor, Psych ward. Crazy crazy!

The first step to kicking diabetes is to kick the sugar habit. When I first detoxed from sugar I started eating nuts as a snack. All sorts of nuts and I'd munch all day as needed. I eat less than 50 grams of sugar most of the time, and probably less than that. There is sugar in processed foods that aren't sweet. Last time my blood was checked I was no longer pre-diabetic and I've lost about 30 pounds since early September. The Hummus and raw veggies are great, I eat lots of that. Cheese is great, watch the fruit. Watch the sugar in the yogurt, there will be added sugars many times. I eat lots of guacamole as well, love avocados. Sugar is the real devil in the health fight.

I've had a far less than perfect pet. I adopted a cat from the Human Society. She was very friendly at the shelter. At home she was super cat aggressive with the cat I already had. She was friendly to me, until she started taking swipes at me with claws extended. She was friendly to the grandbaby, and then turned around and smacked her and scratched her. She went back to the Humane Society after she scratched the grandbaby. I strongly suspect the Humane Society ended up putting her down. I could not have a cat or any pet that would attack me or a grandchild. I might have tolerated it longer, but not after she scratched the baby.

My kids were so lucky! From 1995 to 2000 we lived in a neighborhood where there was a creek and some wetlands very near by. During summer vacation they would take off in the morning, come home for lunch and I wouldn't see them again til dinner. There were frogs, and wild berries, and trees to climb, and they would come home stinky and dirty. They still talk about it as the best part of their childhood. Then the land was sold and the developer put in more houses and then we moved.

I have shut a cat in a closet from time to time. Once when I worked 12 hour shifts my old girl was shut in my closet for almost 14 hours. She had to go while she was in there, and used my laundry basket. I was thankful she didn't use my shoes. And current girls have been shut in my sewing room for an extended period. They chose an out of the way spot to relieve themselves. Now I am uber careful when I shut the door to the sewing room to locate the kitties.
