After 25 years with my ex who only barely tolerated my katten (Dutch for cats) any future "close friend" would need to love cats as much as I do before I'd let him into my life. And yes, if it is cold and I see them sleeping I will put a blanket over them. I have a heated covered cat bed in the room I used to WFH. That room used to be the guest room, there is a bed in there. The cat bed is on the bed. Do I pamper them or what? I will probably turn that off next month once or if it gets warm enough.

Why do people use euphemisms like "passed away" instead of saying "died"?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 18, 2023:
I love to ask Dr. Google stuff like this, and Dr. Google fulfilled my request. https://rfhr.com/should-you-say-passed-away-or-died/#:~:text=Why%20is%20%E2%80%9CPassed%20Away%E2%80%9D%20Used,oldest%20euphemisms%20known%20in%20English. Of course that is from a funeral home. It says: When a loved one dies, it can be challenging to cope with the loss. You may hear others say that your loved one “passed away” and wonder what that means. While “passed away” is a euphemism for death, many religions believe that a soul passes on into another realm after death. This is where the idea that someone “passed away” comes from. Let’s look at what “passed away” and other euphemisms mean and what to say about the death of a loved one. What Does “Passed Away” Mean? We first see the term “passed away” appear in English writings of the 15th century. In the 1400s, the majority of individuals believed that the departing of the soul of a dead person was a literal physical event. “Passing away” meant that the deceased person had begun their soul’s journey to heaven or hell. (1) Why is “Passed Away” Used as a Euphemism for Death? A euphemism is a way of saying something without coming out and saying it. People use euphemisms when they don’t want to say a word that might upset or offend someone else. The term “pass away” is one of the oldest euphemisms known in English. Many individuals don’t like to think of death when thinking of a loved one who died because it sounds so final. They may say or want to hear others say “passed away” as a calmer and gentler way of talking about death. They might also use or prefer other euphemisms for death, such as: Left this world Passed on Sleeping Gone from this world In heaven With the angels Resting in peace Finished their race Done with their suffering Dearly departed However, for those who believe in an afterlife for the soul, these euphemisms are not just a saying to make the word “death” sound nicer. For those who believe in the soul and an afterlife, “passed away” is a literal description of what they think happens to a soul after death. Do All Religions Believe in a Soul? You may wonder which religions believe in a soul. But first, let’s define “religion.” According to Mark Stibich, Ph.D., “Religion is a set of organized beliefs, practices, and systems that most often relate to belief and worship of a controlling force such as a personal god or another supernatural being. While this is a basic definition, there are many different understandings of what religion is and not all religions are centered on a belief in a god, gods, or supernatural forces. Religion often involves cultural beliefs, worldviews, texts, ...

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 17, 2023:
https://www.drelseys.com/2022/03/10/history-of-st-gertrude-the-patron-saint-of-cats/#:~:text=Saint%20of%20Cats-,St.,that%20all%20cat%20lovers%20worshipped. History of St. Gertrude: The Patron Saint of Cats St. Gertrude of Nivelles’ patronage was never made official by the Vatican, but her association with whisking away mice and rats made her, by default, the saint that all cat lovers worshipped. While modern media has associated her with cats in most portrayals, there’s a lot more to the patron saint of cats than just being deemed the cat lady of the Catholic church. According to history records, St. Gertrude was born in the city of Nivelles in 626, which we now know as modern-day Belgium. As the youngest child of four, St. Gertrude was meant to follow in the footsteps of her eldest sister Pepin when it came to agreeing to an arranged marriage. Devoted to her faith and with the help of her mother, St. Gertrude escaped the bindings of having to agree to an arrangement by opening a separate female-only monastery. Here, she devoted herself to her faith until she left the monastery to tend to those in need. Most claim her association with cats stems from a feline’s predatory instinct to catch and chase away rodents. During her time serving in her city, St. Gertrude was frequently summoned by the townsfolk to ward off illness and rodent infestations. People swore by her energy to chase away anything disease-ridden, and ultimately this is why she was canonized after she passed away on March 17 at age 33. Many churches were built in her memory, and many claims of miracles have happened at her hands. In remembrance of her, many Catholic people also celebrate St. Gertrude’s feast day on March 17 alongside St. Patrick’s Day. Each fall, Nivelles holds Le Tour Sainte-Gertrude, a parade around the city that draws many pilgrims and features a mass in honor of St. Gertrude. When you’re donning your favorite green gear for the lucky holiday, give your furry friend an extra pet in honor of our favorite cat lady!

Zabuton noun A large, flat cushion, used in Japan for sitting or kneeling on the floor.
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 11, 2023:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zabuton A zabuton (Japanese: 座布団 or ざぶとん, lit. 'sitting futon',[1] Japanese pronunciation: [d͡za̠bɯ̟ᵝtõ̞ɴ] ZAH-boo-tawn) is a cushion for sitting that is commonly used in traditional Japanese settings.[2] Zabuton is a Japanese loanword[3] that is also sometimes used in Western culture to describe the zaniku, a flat mat that a zafu is placed on.[1] The zabuton is generally used while sitting in a seiza or agura position[4][5] and may also be used when sitting on a chair. Zabuton are used during meditation such as zazen.[6] In a more casual setting, the zabuton can be used in conjunction with a zaisu, a type of Japanese legless chair, with or without an accompanying kyōsoku (脇息), a Japanese-style armrest. Ordinarily, any place in Japan where seating is on the floor will be provided with zabuton for sitting comfort. The length and width of a typical zabuton is approximately 2 square feet (0.19 m2)[2] to 3 square feet (0.28 m2)[7] and usually an inch or two thick,[8] but can vary in thickness.[9] They are sometimes made with threaded embroidery[10] and tassels on the four corners and at the center of the zabuton, and often with a removable outer cover that can be washed separately.[11]

@charlene, it is an awesome word!! I remember once as a teen, and I wanna say 15. My mom died when I was 14, my dad remarried 6 months later. The stepmother was a witch, just a horrible woman. never had kids and saw the 3 of us at home as potential slaves. Anyway, my dad's mom was visiting and I had done something to set wicked witch off. The witch and grandmother stopped me as I was headed up to my room after school, I was on the stairs which were open to the living room. They both chewed my a$$ for about 30 minutes. It was a severe monstering. I mentally checked into my happier place and looked at them without blinking which really freaked them out and pissed them off more, until they finally dismissed me. That ability to check out became my teenaged happy place and served me well with Army BS "monstering". I think I can still do it, just haven't had a need to in years...
