Love them crayons ?
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 17, 2018:
Almost two years ago I had some updating done in my kitchen/dining room. One part of the wall was not very wide and I asked my construction guy to put a chalk board there. The construction guy is also my son in law and the father of the cutie in the picture. The cutie interrupted the construction project by deciding to arrive early. Now 20 months later she has reached the stage where she understands drawing. SamSam was at my house on Saturday and she created this artwork. It kept her busy and happy for quite some time, and it was fascinating to watch. (OK, fascinating to an adoring Grammy.) I think it was one of the best ideas we had and I'm thrilled with it.

Except for very short periods of time in my life, it seems like this has always been true:
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 17, 2018:
I have always had a cat in my life except for a few periods between cats or when I could not have a cat. As a single soldier pets were not allowed in the barracks, and I get why but it sucked. My cat(s) are the best companions, my fur children that will never grow up, ask for the car keys, or leave me to form their own families. I have had a few relationships end because I am not giving up my cats for anyone. So be it.

I was very lonely while I was married. My oldest daughter would be "punished" by sending her to her room when she was 3. She would fuss for a few minutes and then be distracted by her books, puzzles and games. She found her own company very good company indeed and she kept that habit through her life. I live alone, I am now rarely lonely. I enjoy my solitude and when I've had enough I seek out others, my kids are nearby and I have other groups I connect with.

My dream job was to be a stay at home mom. I excelled at that. But the kids grew up and the marriage ended. I returned to the work force and have had jobs that were ok and jobs that really sucked. I left my job a week ago. I am calling it retirement for the moment. I will reassess in a few months. If I do go back to work I doubt it will be full time and definitely not looking for a stressful job.

I am here for interaction, for conversation, and for pissing off conservatives. Oh wait, I meant for community. I love how the conversations can range and the stuff I learn. I love hearing the opinions of others. I love the support and the camaraderie that has developed. The points are nice, but I'm not here for the points. I am not so focused on getting points that I'm going to spend more time here. I've been out of work/retired for a week. I've got other stuff I want to get done. If I was driven by points I'd be here more. I just don't/can't multitask like that. I've been here for about 9 months and I don't have plans to drop off anytime soon. I'll just keep plugging along and let the points come as the come.

Several judge people that have had relationships but never married or have had kids.
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 16, 2018:
I am very attached to my kids, they are a big piece of my life and there are grandchildren. Anyone I am in a serious relationship with will have to accept that my kids/grandbabies are going to be frequent visitors and a good part of our social life. I had granddaughter for 9 hours yesterday, we had a blast. Someone who has never had their own children might not want that in his life. Children are messy, noisy, time consuming, and at times exhausting. My ex, father of those children used to call them sponges, they soak up time, money, and energy. My middle daughter loves being an auntie, but has no desire for kids of her own, she has had that mindset since she was a teenager. I respect that. To have or not to have children is a very personal decision. For me kids was the right choice. We all have to make that choice, it doesn't mean we are good or bad people. If I meet someone and he doesn't want anything to do with kids, then he is not the right person for me. Doesn't mean he's a bad person, he just has different needs/tolerances.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 16, 2018:
My ex would have done that. He was mortified our one of our daughters had gay friends. He didn't want "those boys" in our home. I told him he was safe and she could invite in anyone she wanted. I think I stayed married to protect the kids. People love who they love, there isn't enough love in the world, why shame or restrict who loves whom. As a parent there is nothing that could make me not love one of my children. I love this child possibly more because she has such an open and loving heart, and she was my biggest challenge as a teenager, but she an amazing adult.
