How has a teenager showed faith in you?

My children all had a few rough years, but are amazing adults and we're close now. My middle daughter is going to be my guardian and conservator when I need that. My oldest and youngest have needed me for new mom questions. Even when my challenging child was in her horrible teenage years, even when we fought like cats and dogs, or moms and daughters; she would always take a few moments and tell me she loved me every day. They tell me now they're proud of me for facing life's challenges. And I am proud of the strong women they've become.

Ever since I turned 48 or 49, I have received mailers for AARP, but have not joined.

I agree. If you are "too nice" people will walk all over you. You have to have boundaries. Use the "When you..., then I ..." model. When you tell me I'm dumb, then I think you're don't care for me." I don't think interpersonal relationships can be free from conflict. BUT the conflict needs to be resolved in a healthy manner. I am really good at identifying the "elephant in the room" and bringing it out into the open. I've been asked more than once if we really have to talk about it, and I always say "oh hell yeah."

well, to begin with, I sleep on the right hand side of the bed. I have for more than 25 years. Second of all, that buffer zone might need to be bigger. I have lots and lots of pillows on my bed. Most of them aren't used all night long. I read in bed, gotta have something to prop the book up. I have slept alone so long I'm not sure I'll be able to adjust, but I will give it a good try when the situation presents itself.

I "get" to see my ex every few weeks due to kids liking to do family things. We're polite, even amicable. And then he says something, and my kids grab me and say "please don't say anything." And I don't, but I am reminded of a. Why we are divorced, and b. how amazing it is my kids are such awesome people despite their dad.

I grew up with out seatbelts. I don't remember if there was a radio. I am so lucky to be alive. I have a scar on my nose from a minor accident in my dad's car. I was standing on the floor of the front seat and my head hit the dash. I was about 2.5. Then I got banished to the back seat with the brothers. Torture!

In Japan I'd see men take a whiz, and in Germany once traveling down the Autobahn at about 75 mph, saw 4 guys outside a car parked on the shoulder of the highway. looked like they were having a contest to see who's stream went farther. At least they had their backs to most of traffic.

I remember going to the store, spending an hour or so looking for one record.

First of all, if you are the parent you don't get to just walk away from the kids the law has something to say about that whether or not you're legally married to the other parent. Marriage does not prevent a parent from taking off. My oldest brother is a deadbeat dad. Being legally married did not stop him from disappearing on his wife and 5 kids. The working issues need to be resolved but rarely does any woman stay at home with the kids anymore. Who can afford it? Why shouldn't dad stay home if mom can earn more money and support the family? Property ownership can be done with two individuals not connected by marriage. College for the kids, again something to be discussed before you get them started. There is no real reason to be married in this day and age. I will never remarry, but I'm a long way from considering more kids.

Cigar smoking would not be a deal breaker as long as you don't smoke in the house, car, or garage. Or within 15 feet of me. Trump supporter is deal breaker. A great deal of debt would be a deal breaker. I won't move, so unless you are willing to move to (yeah, I know) Omaha, it is a deal breaker. Not loving cats is a deal breaker. Kids of elementary/middle/high school age is a deal breaker. There might be others.

My oldest brother has disappeared, haven't seen him in over 30 years, he walked out on his family after he retired from the Navy at age 39. Second brother lives 50 miles away, disabled vet, and recently told me to shove it when I made some suggestions. Third brother is mean as a snake and I leave him alone. Youngest sister is a unique little flower and made some questionable life choices including embezzlement. Yeah...., middle sister and I are the only family we really associate with.
