How long does it take to meet?
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 20, 2018:
I've met people within days of initial contact, and some I never meet in person. No rules, no rule of thumb. Everyone has lives offline.

I used to think it was because they were so fastidious, and then I saw my youngest laying in the litter box. Gaaahhh. But she still smells good.

There is some amazing advice here, we are such a great community. I'd like to add this: I have 3 daughters, and the middle one and I nearly killed each other. She pushed every boundary and limit. She snuck out of the house at night, she drank, she smoked. She dyed her hair with koolade. She's a blonde, red koolade, not a good look. She knew your hot buttons within minutes of meeting you, and she'd push them. She got busted at school for Dramamine, and kicked out for the rest of the semester. Best thing that ever happened to us. I was a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom) so I was home with her. I made her quit smoking cold turkey. She could not leave the house without me. She enrolled in a home schol program. And a friend put us in touch with a Caregiver Night Out program and I dragged her into that. Volunteers did projects with individuals with disabilities. She tried every bargaining chip she had, and I still made her go. When I picked her up after she was so thrilled!! She had the best time, and she just bloomed. That was a turning point in her life. She kept volunteering even when she got her license. She still had "adventures." but she grew up so much with that experience. I think it is such a wonderful thing to expose your teens to people who are disadvantaged or different from what they are. She's 30 now, and an amazing young woman.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 18, 2018:
First of all, not standing ;) Why am I here? As in on Agnostic, because I like the community. Why am I on alive? Failure of birth control, or lack of birth control. My folks did not plan on more than 2, I'm #4, and have two younger sisters. What is the purpose in my life? To raise responsible kids (pretty much done) and to be here to help them raise their kids (work in progress). To be the balance to their religious conservative grandfather. To share my wisdom and encouragement. And lastly thanks to my religious training while married, my purpose is well stated by John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement: “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.”

Who has their cat trained?
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 18, 2018:
My cats have a pink stuffed mousie, about 4 inches long, it is stuffed and has a rattle in it. I have a house with a split entry foyer. When I find the mouse upstairs I shake it and toss it over the railing to the basement. They will both run after it, but it is Zelda brings it back to me, and I toss again, and repeat about 3 times. The other day I was sitting in the basement family room, and I saw the mouse fall from upstairs, and Zelda ran down and picked it up, took it upstairs and repeated it. I have a cat that plays fetch.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 17, 2018:
Almost two years ago I had some updating done in my kitchen/dining room. One part of the wall was not very wide and I asked my construction guy to put a chalk board there. The construction guy is also my son in law and the father of the cutie in the picture. The cutie interrupted the construction project by deciding to arrive early. Now 20 months later she has reached the stage where she understands drawing. SamSam was at my house on Saturday and she created this artwork. It kept her busy and happy for quite some time, and it was fascinating to watch. (OK, fascinating to an adoring Grammy.) I think it was one of the best ideas we had and I'm thrilled with it.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 17, 2018:
I have always had a cat in my life except for a few periods between cats or when I could not have a cat. As a single soldier pets were not allowed in the barracks, and I get why but it sucked. My cat(s) are the best companions, my fur children that will never grow up, ask for the car keys, or leave me to form their own families. I have had a few relationships end because I am not giving up my cats for anyone. So be it.

I was very lonely while I was married. My oldest daughter would be "punished" by sending her to her room when she was 3. She would fuss for a few minutes and then be distracted by her books, puzzles and games. She found her own company very good company indeed and she kept that habit through her life. I live alone, I am now rarely lonely. I enjoy my solitude and when I've had enough I seek out others, my kids are nearby and I have other groups I connect with.

My dream job was to be a stay at home mom. I excelled at that. But the kids grew up and the marriage ended. I returned to the work force and have had jobs that were ok and jobs that really sucked. I left my job a week ago. I am calling it retirement for the moment. I will reassess in a few months. If I do go back to work I doubt it will be full time and definitely not looking for a stressful job.
