I had a golden for many years, the ex would not let him on the bed while he was in the area. Sometimes in the afternoon I'd lay down for a nap. I'd be on my side with the cat in front of me and the dog would get up behind me. I'd sleep really well, very cocooned. I love snuggling with my fur babies.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 12, 2018:
I grew up in Nebraska where the mantra is Go Big Red. Big Red being the Cornhuskers, the college football team. I never got it. The only sports I voluntarily watch are ice skating and gymnastics. I chose to watch a superbowl one year, what a waste of an afternoon. Aside from the fact that we pay athletes way too much and don't hold them accountable for their actions, we pay millions in taxpayer dollars for stadiums the taxpayer cannot afford to attend. It is just foolishness.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 12, 2018:
((((((((Amy))))))) this is a hard time for you. Some people are not comfortable with grief. She may not have the words to have let you know how she feels, so sometimes people just don't say anything. Yes, it feels like she is insensitive to announce her engagement, but her life is going on. You have some grief work to do before you can move on. Yes, it is work and it has no timeline. You just lost your mom yesterday, even though you "knew" it was coming, nothing prepares you for when it actually happens. So with deepest love for you I tell you cut her some slack, and cut yourself some slack. Your emotions are totally normal, grief sucks. The next few weeks and months will be unpredictable at best. It might be a good time to take a break from FB, possibly other social media, even Agnostic if you need to. Life goes on, and people are going to celebrate milestones in their lives. Your day will come, but right now you have to deal with grief. You know this community will be a safe sounding board for you.

In 1977, on my 19th birthday I was in Army Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC. That was the day we had gas chamber training... Yes I had to go in the gas chamber, take off my mask, give my Drill Sergeant my name, rank, and serial number, and then I could run out of the chamber and barf my lunch. My grandfather got his first great grandchild on his birthday. And my middle daughter was born on my mom's birthday which was special to me. My mom died when I was 14. Two of my sisters had given their daughters my mom's middle name. (Mom was Minnie Mae, no one in this generation was going to name a girl Minnie.) I thought I one upped my sisters by my daughter arriving on her birthday, not like I had much influence over it.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 11, 2018:
When I was a teen most adults I knew were either in their 40s or in their 70s. I don't have any memories of thinking anyone old. I am mother to someone who is 30, and 33, and 26. And grandmother to two under 2. Do I feel old, sometimes. I have some aches and pains now and the floor seems so low and so hard to gracefully get off of. I'm working on that though. I have sorta retired and I'm using this time to get more exercise and into better health. I don't mind being "old" I just don't want to be decrepit.

HippieChick58 comments on Sep 10, 2018:
I dunno that I'd say he "got away" more like he stayed away. He lived in CA and was supposed to move to Omaha. Everyone said moving would be a good step, including his Mom. I gave him some financial assistance to move. And then Mom didn't feel so well, and then his car was hit and totalled, or so he said. When it was good it was soooo very very good. My heart was broken, my job was ending, and I had to move. It was a really hard time. I found a new job really quickly, heard from him once more 2 years later when I moved into the house I'm in now. Which is why I will never again do long distance. With interest rates what they are I figure he owes me around $10,000 now.
