I told my 30 year old that I was likely to be unemployed and not intending to look for a job immediately. I thought she was gonna have a stroke. When did my 30 year old daughter become an adult, and my mother no less! It took a few weeks but she has come around, but it was an interesting conversation. She was concerned about my retirement savings/investments and insurance. So grown up. She thinks she doesn't want to be a parent, honey you already are one.

I had my gall bladder out before laparoscopic surgery, and then 3 c-sections, and stretch marks, and yeah, I haven't been slim since I was.... I don't think I was ever slim. I have not had a man that ran from my bed, and yes the lights were out. But guys have scars too. No one is looking for a perfect bod. Mention the scars while you are still clothed, then if they want to run there won't be any awkward delay while they find their pants. ;)

I wore my shirt to a hardware store on Saturday. I went with my kids and grand daughter. I encountered a lady wearing a shirt that said how much she loved her church. I almost laughed out loud. We were about the same age, coloring, and build, but miles apart in our beliefs. I had SamSam to distract me, so when I laughed I'm sure she thought it wasn't at her.

Encourage them to ask questions and to seek answers. Encourage them to look for sources and proof. There are some amazing fairy tales out there that are taken for truth. My ex got excited about hearing about a monk that was resurrected, that bodily fluids were actually leaking out of his body and he came back to life. And I went "really, you believe that?" Talk about "news" stories like that, and PLEASE talk about bias in news reporting. Faux news makes me break out in hives.

Folding tighty whitey's for my brothers. I had only girls, and I did the ex's laundry with mine so I folded all his stuff. When I was a kid, dad would do all the whites for him and 3 brothers in one load. Then my sister and I had to sort and fold them. I loathe whitey tighteys to this day. I had the kids doing their own laundry from the time they were 8 or 10.

We have rich people fleecing the less rich and poor; and women are treated as objects. There is no god, and America sucks right now. There is no god that has blessed this nation, but there are people here to fight to make it better because it is all we've got and we're not doing it for a god who doesn't exist.

Do you ever think it's appropriate for someone to give up on finding true love?
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 3, 2018:
I think you need to do what is best for your mental health. I dropped off all dating sites, all I was finding were scammers. I have slightly increased my social activities among the Humanist group I belong to. I haven't "given up" on finding either true love or a long term partner, BUT I am going to live my life like I'm going to be as I am for the rest of my life. I have to make decisions that are best for me here and now. If I meet someone special then I will make adjustments if necessary. In my mind the door is pretty much shut, but not locked. I am going to live my life as fully as I can, do what makes me happy and benefits my kids/family/community as I see it. I will not be measured by whether or not I'm in a romantic relationship with anyone. Notice the pink shirt wearing companion in my picture. That is my most prized relationship right now, she is the future and I will give my life for her or her cousin.

Ridiculous Rumors
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 3, 2018:
When we were in Kansas the school had a voice mail system that parents could leave messages for other parents and the school. So one of the moms of classmate was leaving a message for another mom, and I was the subject. I have no idea how she left it in my VM box without being deliberate about it. She was scathing and cruel. It wasn't a rumor, it was downright gossip and meaner than snake spit. I had to deal with this woman for Girl Scout Activities. I was dealing with depression, she called me stupid and depressed, and then it got worse. If she talked about me that way who knew what else she said about me. I ran into her a few years later after we moved to Omaha and I was back in Kansas for a visit, we were in the same hotel in the elevator. I caught her eye, looked her up and down, and never said a word, never changed my expression. Longest damn elevator ride ever, however from my ex I know that "'the look" shakes people to the bone. I hope she's happy in her sad little world.

Soooooo y'all know I'm a word nerd? And the queen of Google. And when I googled I found http://mentalfloss.com/article/29942/which-came-first-orange-color-or-orange-fruit The citrus definitely got named first. The earliest recorded use of orange the fruit in English is from the 1300s and came to us from the Old French orenge, adapted from the Arabic nāranj, from the Persian nārang, from the Sanskrit nāranga ("orange tree"). The Sanskrit word's origin is unclear, but it might come from a Dravidian word meaning "fragrant." The word's use as a color name doesn't crop up for another 200 years, in the early 1500s. English speakers probably didn't have a specific name for the color until the fruit was widely available in their markets and inspired one. Before then, linguists believe people generally referred to orange as "yellow-red," ġeolurēad in Old English.

Has anyone here had weight loss surgery? (No judging)
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 2, 2018:
I had to find a new doctor, the doctor I loved retired and her replacement then moved to a different health system. I got a recommendation from a coworker. In our first visit my new doctor gestured with her pen towards my midsection and asked if I had considered bariatric surgery. I went searching for another new doctor. So, in my job as a claims examiner for short term disability I have recently had two claims for ladies that had bariatric surgery and are now having malnutrition issues from it. One is pregnant and has been off work for several weeks early in her pregnancy and is now on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. The other lady is just is not doing well, I don't remember details. With bariatric surgery you have to adjust your eating habits for the rest of your life. I know me. If I'm not willing to make those adjustments now, I know I won't be after surgery. I'm stubborn that way. Then after having those two claims, I'm damn glad I chose to avoid that option. That being said I also know folks for whom it has been great. I read quite a bit about it in the past and it just never seemed to me to be the best route for me.
This is something to think about ?

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
