Anyone else here come from an abusive family?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 18, 2018:
I was abused, and I was able to move on. Sometimes I feel the inner child crying, but I have learned to heal her. Having daughters was a great help, when the oldest got to the age was that the worst of the abuse happened I realized it wasn't my fault. Also living far away from my abusers helped, and limited contact and never alone with them when I did have to see them.
CONGRATULATIONS @MissKathleen, for reaching Level 8!

Always been an advocate to alternative medicine.
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 18, 2018:
I use tincture of ginger for heartburn. It works for me. I have chopped ginger in vodka in my pantry now. When I need to use it I will drain the ginger out. I used oil of cloves to numb a sore tooth so I could sleep. I got 5 hours sleep and a root canal the next day. Alternative medicine is simply what our foremothers used when they didn't have access to doctors. Might not be as potent as pharmaceuticals, but they're as safe if not safer, gentler, and cheaper. Just because it is old fashioned doesn't mean it doesn't work.

I used to have a golden retriever, and floors that were golden retriever colored. I would trip over him in the semidarkness and scare the blazes out of both of us. I miss my boy.

WHAT'S YOUR POSITION ON ABORTION ?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 18, 2018:
My position on abortion is my body my choice. My first pregnancy was ended by abortion because the fetus had neural tube defects that were not compatible with life outside the womb and may have been threatening to my life. Yes I wanted a baby and I was heartbroken to end the pregnancy. And because I was so far along I had to go through labor and deliver that baby. When the baby was born there were more defects than they realized. The baby had anencephaly, spina bifida, front line didn't close, cleft lip and cleft palate. 20 years later the father of my children told those children he believed we made a mistake ending that pregnancy. WTF. Which is why we are no longer married. He was at the delivery, he saw the baby. I consider that a betrayal.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 17, 2018:
I think everyone should live in a different part of the country or world at least for a year. Your horizons will be changed forever. Everyone needs to get out of their "comfort zone" and learn how others live. Everyone needs to hold a tiny baby at least once. There is something so pure, so fragile, so precious and innocent about a baby. It can scare the shit out of you and also leave you in awe. I think everyone should stay up all night to witness the sunrise. At least once everyone needs to try something they didn't think they could do, especially if it scares them. It is amazing to find out that you can.

How do you plan on raising your children?
HippieChick58 comments on Jul 16, 2018:
Seriously, I raised my kids in the church. They're all adults now, 26 to 33 years old. Two are flat out atheists, and one flies low cuz she likes to stay in Daddy's good graces. Raise them to think for themselves and they will figure it out. Their dad encouraged critical thinking but had a blind eye to the church, and he gradually morphed to totally brainwashed by the church. However, the kids are smarter than that.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 16, 2018:
In the rain, sleet, snow, AND hail. Seriously I walked 8 blocks to school. One year we had snow, then rain, then snow again, and I could walk on top of the snow for several blocks. I must have been about 8 at the time. We were a one car family, and dad the only driver. When he was working we walked everywhere.

HippieChick58 comments on Jul 16, 2018:
I generally don't like sterotypes because I've known crazy dudes and crazy ladies, and dumb dudes and dumb ladies. It isn't gender specific. People ARE. All of the above and more. Boys will be boys if their parents allow them to behave that way. My rules of life: Expect something to go wrong. Be prepared. Save for a rainy day. That little doohickey you just tossed, tomorrow you will find it is a crucial element to something that you need now! And the biggest rule of all: Be an encourager. The world has far too much discouragement, spread a little light. You never know who is going to need it.

During the Korean War my uncle was in the Navy, and he was sent to Japan. He came back to the states with a Japanese bride. I was born in 1958. I grew up with a Japanese aunt. I thought she was endlessly fascinating. She was a tailor, she was smart, funny, and sassy with a great wardrobe. She was crazy about her husband and he was crazy about her. I thought everyone should have a Japanese aunt. When, in my small town ignorance I said something about someone being not white she called me on it. She said she wasn't white either. That opened my eyes to hidden racism and my own attitudes. I am so thankful to have known Umeko, she was an amazing woman.
