What a good dad you are! Cooking with kids is a pleasure and trying new recipes is so much fun. I'm so proud that my kids grew up to be foodies, willing to try anything.
I'm new here. Just wanted to say hello to everyone!

For several years I've chosen to keep nuts around as my go to snack. And look how often nuts are mentioned on the chart.

The ones that seem to support him most rabidly are the ones that have the most to lose, the miners, those in ill health, on food stamps. Why do they not understand that he despises anyone who is not male, rich, and white? I have no illusions of what he would think of me, which is fine because I think he is lower than dirt.
Are you a day person or a night person
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 3, 2018:
I'm a person who doesn't like to go to bed, however loves to sleep. When I worked night shifts I'd still stay up too late. I think I need to spend a couple of weeks in the woods with no electricity to reset my internal clock.
This photo represents duality in America.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 3, 2018:
Love, love, love this picture. I was born in 1958 in small town Nebraska. My uncle (dad's brother) went to Japan during the Korean war and come home with a Japanese bride. I always thought that was normal. When later I was told that marrying "colored" (ie anyone non white) was wrong I laughed at them. I had no clue that was an issue until middle or HS. I had a few years of believing that homosexuality was wrong, but gradually realized that people are. You love who you love. My Japanese aunt was instrumental in that education. She was the most fascinating person I ever met and the most open. When I was growing up sex was not talked about, and she was happy to talk about it. In the past few years with my kids I have been educated that people are not binary as I was taught growing up. Sexuality is not binary, there are many variations, and you love who you love. I think if we spend more time loving other people instead of trying to stick them in boxes and behave certain ways we'd be a healthier society.
Do you "talk with your hands"? Does it bother you if others do?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 3, 2018:
I use a hands free head set at work, and yes I talk with my hands. And yes it is a really bad sign when I throw a pen at my computer monitor. I have too many people watching me.
So I have been traveling from Kansas City to Seattle and found some fun reststops along the way.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 3, 2018:
When my kids were little we found a rest stop with a really great playground. Yeah, hard play after lunch made for an interesting trip til she fell asleep.

I have a friend that I "met" when I was first single. We've never met in person, talked on the phone, messaged, and FB friends now. We're politically aligned. He claims to be xian. We met when we both needed support and did good for the distance. He had a major heart issues, and he's changed jobs a few times, and moved a few times. He's also a damn hound dog. He's been through 3 relationships since I've known him. He thinks his little man is the be all and end all, and regularly sends dick pics. He just doesn't get it that it does nothing for me and I delete it as soon as I can. Luckily for my peace of mind I see/talk with him much less often now because I go to bed early and he's busy with the recent temporary love of his life. Sometimes I wish I could just shake him.

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 2, 2018:
I am reminded of a holocaust story that a Catholic priest would baptize jews and give them baptism papers dated before the war started with which they could leave the country for someplace safer. Many Jews had quite a dilemma with that. As the heroine of the movie put it, I could swim in a vat of holy water and it wouldn't make me any less Jewish. So the initial act won't make you a believer, however, what will come after? This comes down to asking your gut. Does it feel right to you? Is she asking you to compromise who you are? Make sure you're talking about how the children will be raised, how the holidays will be celebrated. Do you have any resentment about this request of hers? This can and will affect more than just your life.

Are you cheating if you are open to your partner about your other relationship(s)?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 1, 2018:
Unless your partner approves of an open relationship then anything that violates the relationship is cheating. I think too often no one discusses it, we each have our idea of what the relationship is and we feel violated because we are following the rules we think are in place while our partner is operating under a different set of rules.

For my kids it was "can I help you pack?." My kids were ready, I was ready. I love my kids, they are interesting and good people. I was really ready to see them take that step and I really didn't dread it. Partly because I had my own stuff going on with my marriage. Maybe it has something to do with not having a mother after I was 15, and my step mother made sure I knew she was ready for me to go. I saw their leaving as part of the journey that has to be taken. It's exciting, lets see what next adventure is coming!
Why do certain dates stick in my head?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 1, 2018:
That was a rather significant date in your history, and being the first of the month. That was the day that set up the rest of your life, so makes sense to remember it.

"I don't like drama" or "drama free" means I will put you down, gaslight you, cause you grief and accuse you of being a drama queen while I waltz away looking for the next victim. "little or no baggage" means I need help carrying mine, there is no room for yours.
The most chilling four words in a relationship: "We need to talk."
HippieChick58 comments on May 31, 2018:
Way back when, I read or heard that it was healthy for a relationship to leave 3 things unsaid each day. Far too frequently the ex would point out to me that something I told him could have been one of my three :( . In retrospect that was the worst advice ever. But not discussing issues we drifted apart, and though we tried counseling we were too far entrenched to right the wrong. Maybe let little things go like how the toilet paper is replaced. Hey, the tp is there, if it matters to you it takes 15 seconds to switch it around. The dishwasher is loaded, maybe not to my liking but it is loaded, so you run an extra load per week or so The big stuff needed to be addressed and it never got the attention it needed. So don't be afraid of having tough conversations. How much is that relationship worth to you?

HippieChick58 comments on May 31, 2018:
No alcohol involved, I was in 3rd grade, riding my brother's bike which was too big for me. A neighbor boy on a bike hit my rear tire on the L side and pushed me and the bike over. I ended up with chipped bone in my foot. BUT, it took me out of school. 1967 was Nebraska's centennial, we were having special activities at school, mom had made a pioneer skirt for me, it was fabulous. I never got to wear it :(
Do we carry forward our values regarding sex with us, even though we have rejected its doctrine?
HippieChick58 comments on May 31, 2018:
I don't find anything about sex sinful, and what happens between consenting adults is no one else's damn business. But I want a fulfilling relationship, not just FWB. I've been down that route, I don't find it works for me. Yeah, I want more intimacy, but until I find a true partner to share that I will have less sex.

HippieChick58 comments on May 30, 2018:
I had a golden retriever, he was the son I never gave birth to. When he was 4 we got a kitten. He weighed about 75#, she was about 4# if you soaked her down. Chief was trained to sit and wait for us to release him when his food bowl was put down. So one night he got the release, and the kitten went running right between his feet for the bowl and helped herself. And poor sweet obedient Chief turned around and looked at me with a hurt look on his face, like he was saying "moooo-ooommm, she's eating MY food!" And I said you poor puppy, she isn't even an appetizer for you. That tiny fur ball bossed that big boy for the rest of his life. He was smart for a dog, but not cat smart.

HippieChick58 comments on May 30, 2018:
I call 'em panties, drawers, bloomers, knickers, big girl panties, underwear, and occasionally "unmentionables" though they've been pretty thoroughly mentioned right now. Though it does beg the question, why are you asking any woman about our panties?
Calling all women over 50! Would you date a bald or a balding man?
HippieChick58 comments on May 30, 2018:
I am a natural type of gal. I don't color my hair and keep it short cuz it's uncontrollably curly. I rarely wear makeup though I do get my nails done. I like to do what I like to do, and I extend that option to everyone around me. So you're loosing your hair. My questions are: How is your mind? How is your heart? How is your health? How do you treat others? Shall I go on? Those are much more critical to me than the amount of hair you have, or your height, or the car you drive or don't drive. So yes, I'd consider starting a relationship with a balding or bald dude who lives in my general area, unless you voted for Don the Con and have no regrets on that score then that is a big old NO.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
