Parts of this life I would not have chosen ever, but it is my life and I will make it through. I believe and I have to believe that everything will be OK in the end. If it isn't OK, then it isn't the end.
Rt: Effective Reproduction Number
barjoe comments on Sep 5, 2020:
Rt, effective reproduction number. Is that the same as R° (R naught) factor? I assume they are different. Can you explain?
HippieChick58 replies on Sep 5, 2020:
The reproduction number "R" is often used to reflect how infectious a disease is. We will, in part, use this quantity to assess alternative interventions to control an outbreak, because R is changed by control measures. The basic reproduction number (R0) is the reproduction number when there is no immunity from past exposures or vaccination, nor any deliberate intervention in disease transmission. We refer to R as an effective reproduction number when there is some immunity or some intervention measures are in place. I am fairly certain that I'd be burnt to a crisp if I stood outside naked for an hour or two. There are parts of me that the sun hasn't touched in about 60 years. My last exposure to the sun while I painted my deck in shorts left me with a PMLE, a sun exposure (Poly Morphic Light Eruption) itchy rash on my legs. And even in my neighborhood I'd likely be arrested to be outside sans clothing. I'm just going to increase the amount of Vitamin D3 that I take. I've had the PMLE a few times in my life, it is very annoying.

@Cutiebeauty I'm cheap and I didn't want a machine taking up counter space. There are few cans that I have to manually open any more, so I decided the P38 would fit my requirements. I've never tried it with a knife, I'd be worried about ruining the blade. I also think the P38 might be safer than a straight blade knife, it has a gripper for the underside of the rim to help you get leverage. I have arthritis in my hands and can still use the P38 without much bother.

I like to play Soduku as I wind down to go to sleep. Last night I turned on some music, it was 70s love songs... Had to stop Soduku, could not stop singing. It is at times very hard for me to listen to the music of my youth, makes me sad for what might have been.

I referred to one of my coworkers who was close to my age as a contemporary. She didn't know what I meant. Aside from losing a job during a pandemic, and the pay and benefits; I really don't miss that job.

HippieChick58 replies on Aug 20, 2020:
If you have an iron, steam those masks. The steam will destroy anything that remains behind. I keep the masks in the car, put them on when I leave the car. When I come home I take the mask off at the laundry room. After washing they get ironed and then back to the car.

@TomMcGiverin There was so much that was not right in that household that it took me years to process it all and name it all properly for what it was. The best thing that I ever did for my kids was to keep them away from that toxicity. My stepmother used to ask when the kids would have overnight visits with them. The answer was never and over my dead body. We always lived too far away, partly circumstance of military and corporate moves. I now live 50 miles from where they lived, but we didn't move here until after my dad was gone. Just because someone is "family" doesn't mean they are good for you.
