So with the crazy weather we're having how is everyone doing?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2021:
I am WFH so don't need to go out. I was victim to our scheduled power outage of one hour. It started at exactly 0830, and ended at 0930. I messaged my supervisor and sat by the window and knit for an hour with a throw quilt on my lap and a jacket. My employer is not penalizing us for the hour of ...

@RavenCT I have a snow blower, but it is tooooooo damn cold for me to be out in this weather very long. The porch, steps, and sidewalk I have to shovel, and I just don't feel like tackling that. Family comes in the garage, I'm not expecting other visitors.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 15, 2021:
I love the pinwheels, and the soft colors. I have done lots of projects with half square triangles. They're fun and so adaptive. I've got a couple more projects in mind that I'll be using HSTs.
HippieChick58 replies on Feb 15, 2021:
@Gwendolyn2018 That is one of the alternative methods for HST. There is also a method to make 8 HST from two blocks sewn together. My sister is a quilter, and she thought the blue HST quilt was trule me, a tad off center. My current project is a thanksgiving wreath quilt made with the twister blocks. After that I'm doing another HST project. I keep browsing pintrest and finding ideas. It's rather dangerous :) Then my daughter wants me to make a crocheted blanket for my grandson, so I have to fit that around my other hobbies. At least it keeps me safely at home and busy.

HippieChick58 replies on Feb 15, 2021:
@Gwendolyn2018 I make HSTs out of two squares laid on top of each other right sides together, draw a line down the center diagonally, and then sew 1/4 inch on both sides of the line. Then cut on the line and press. I do have pictures of several of my quilts on my profile. There are several variations for making HSTs, a google search will find them. I got away from HSTs for a while and am doing some twister quilts currently. I made a quilt for new granddaughter, and several small project to use up my stash, I made placemats and pot holders for my kitchen. My christmas tree is a hst quilt, easy to put up and take down.

@Behind-the-dog The one we saw was very nice, very good with kids. My daughter's sibilant s's were because of horribly misaligned teeth. @Gwendolyn2018 I would never try to sell my quilts. I make them for my pleasure and give them away when I see fit. To make a profit from quilting you'd have to sell for hundreds of dollars, and people just don't see the value in them. My kids and grands all have quilts, and I know as they grow the grands will get additional quilts. I make them to make me happy, and hopefully the recipients happy. To sell them would turn my hobby into work, and that is the last thing that I want or need.

@Gwendolyn2018 I started doing some smaller projects just to fill the void. I have done pot holders and placemats. Now I'm working on what will either be a throw quilt or a wall hanging. It is a Thanksgiving wreath. I'm hoping it is done by next Thanksgiving. For the most part I'm avoiding fabric stores (and other stores as well) so I'm using up the stuff I have on hand. I don't like to give the public utilities much of my money, so I keep my thermostat pretty low. While I'm working I have a throw quilt on my lap, and I have several quilts on my bed. I sleep better under a pile of quilts and blankets.

Google says: Denouement: the final part of a play, movie, or narrative in which the strands of the plot are drawn together and matters are explained or resolved. "the film's denouement was unsatisfying and ambiguous" the climax of a chain of events, usually when something is decided or made clear. "I waited by the eighteenth green to see the denouement" and anagnorisis the point in a play, novel, etc., in which a principal character recognizes or discovers another character's true identity or the true nature of their own circumstances. "we see the tormented figure of Oedipus come to recognize the truth in a classical moment of anagnorisis" So, not the same thing but similar. And I'm sure that could be debated.

And yes, lack of jobs and biased hiring practices affect so many. With my children having small children and busy schedules I'm not going to agitate. Those few times the ex and I have to be together we're civil. If he does get obnoxious two of the daughters will rip him a new one. @TheGreatShadow I take it you're speaking mostly for yourself. This last 4 years have convinced me more than anything else in my life that Xians are some deluded people and it has nothing that I want or need. If anything the past 4 years have shown glaring huge gaps in the US educational system and the need for an immediate overhaul. We need to teach Civics again, we need to teach about all religions, and we need to teach critical thinking skills. We need to teach science better. And we desperately need to stop regarding celebrities and spokespersons for anything besides their movies/shows/art.

HippieChick58 replies on Jan 1, 2021:
@Gwendolyn2018 I made a quilt about 10 years ago, it was a generous queen size. It was made for a relationship that I was in that was supposed to be long term. The man was supposed to move to Nebraska, he found all sorts of reasons he couldn't. The quilt ended up in my guest bedroom, and then when I started working from home the desk was put in the guest room and I knew the quilt had to go, so the lap quilt I had started grew into a full size quilt and was put on the bed. The old quilt was sent to some friends who admired it. Throw quilts and lap quilts are very welcome at nursing homes and senior centers. Right now I'm working on small projects, I have made some pot holders and have placemats in process. I'm not planning to start another big project any time soon. And you know what they say about the best laid plans...

Eidetic memory is the term used today for what used to be called "photographic memory"
HippieChick58 replies on Dec 29, 2020:
Eidetic memory (/aɪˈdɛtɪk/ eye-DET-ik; more commonly called photographic memory) is the ability to recall an image from memory with high precision for a brief period after seeing it only once,[1] and without using a mnemonic device.[2] Although the terms eidetic memory and photographic memory are popularly used interchangeably,[1] they are also distinguished, with eidetic memory referring to the ability to see an object for a few minutes after it is no longer present[2][3] and photographic memory referring to the ability to recall pages of text or numbers, or similar, in great detail.[4][5] When the concepts are distinguished, eidetic memory is reported to occur in a small number of children and generally not found in adults,[2][6] while true photographic memory has never been demonstrated to exist.[5][7] The word eidetic comes from the Greek word εἶδος (pronounced [êːdos], eidos) "visible form".[8]

The current administration has NEVER studied history, this is the most ignorant, ill informed, biased, and oblivious president in the history of the world. HippieChick58 replies on Dec 17, 2020:
It is Acadian, or Cajun. They're essentially the same thing. I lived in Louisiana for almost 2 years (totally too long) and I did learn some of the history. From Wikipedia: In Louisiana, Acadian and Cajun are often used as broad cultural terms without reference to actual descent from the deported Acadians. ... Historically, Louisianians of Acadian descent were also considered to be Louisiana Creoles, although Cajun and Creole are often portrayed as separate identities today. http://www.acadian-cajun.com/acadiancajun.htm And if you want a semi interesting story, read about the Evangeline Oak. https://explorepartsunknown.com/southern-louisiana/a-cajun-myth-an-oak-tree-and-a-search-for-meaning/ I was fascinated by it because of some health information that came to light. Many Acadians are having babies with a disease usually found among the Jewish population, Tay Sachs disease. It is suggested that the Jews that were removed from Jerusalem during the diaspora settled in France and became absorbed into the population. That population then were among those that went to Canada then Louisiana. And yes, I am a Geek.
