What unbelievable prank has your cat ever done?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 28, 2018:
My baby loves to carry my pens off, batteries (still don't know where she got that, I live alone.) She carries marbles, small empty spools (thread spools, I sew, and I gave her the empty ones). Then she drops them on the laminate floors and chases them around, they make an interesting noise. One or both of the freaks are busy cleaning off table tops and book case shelves. I can't find my lip balm tonight because NOTHING is on the table top. I need to stop working so I can monitor these hell cats better.

Eating out alone?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 28, 2018:
I had a job once that I traveled some, and I would eat alone then. I would carry a book. Now I rarely travel, and I don't usually go to restaurants for meals as I'm too cheap. But sometimes I do. I try to take a book, newspaper, or my phone. I very rarely eat in my car, and at home it is not unusual for me to eat on the sofa with my laptop on my lap.... like right now.
If you are married, or were married, how did you or your S.O. propose? Where did it happen?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 28, 2018:
It must not have been anything special because I really don't remember either one of them.
When you have dinner at a new restaurant, do you order something that you are familiar with or try ...
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I will be adventurous, I love trying new foods and new restaurants. If it is ethnic food that I am not familiar with I will ask the waitstaff for recommendations. I am not into hot spiced foods, but less spicy is OK. If it is a homestyle or American restaurant I will go with what I wouldn't usually cook for myself. If I have time before I get there I will check out the menu online (if I can) to get an idea of what I want to order.
Why hasn't an efficient health care system been implemented?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Health insurance is major big business, so there is huge pressure to NOT go to universal health care because all the fat cats would lose a big chunk of business. We desperately need universal health care. The shift will be hard, but it is necessary.
Yes.

Would you date a person with a speach impediment?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
One of my kids had speech therapy in elementary school. Once her teeth got straightened out her pronunciation improved. (She had extensive orthodontia during childhood.) As for an adult with a speech impediment. I am far more interested in who you are and how you treat others (and me) than how well you talk. Mel Tillis had a horrible stutter, but he could sing. Now if you spray when you talk, that might be different. If it bothers you why don't you check into a diction coach or with a speech therapist again, especially if you think it is holding you back.
I always thought this one was gold.

Can you have too many books?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I am saying YES because I've moved 23 times, and most were courtesy of and paid for by the military. When I split with my ex and had to fund moves on my own, and realized I had stacks and stacks of books I was never going to read again, I started offloading all those books. I sold probably a ton of books at HalfPriceBooks. I am a Yuge fan of the local library.

Isn't happiness just the absence of grief?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
You can be grieving and be happy. So no is the answer to your question. I once read that happiness was someone to love, something to do, and something to look forward to. It can also be said it is having meaning in your life. Meaningful for me is not going to be meaningful for others.

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
It takes longer for women to get pain meds, and then we get less. Our concerns are not taken seriously. I remember a friend told her pediatrician her son had projectile vomiting. His reaction was "yeah, sure mom." Mom was an RN. The kicker was as she was leaving the baby's vomit hit the doc square in the chest from 5 feet away. Then the doctor ordered tests. And yes, meds are not tested on women, frequently it is guesswork on the part of doctors. But if you got a limp dick you can get meds. I know, crazy, sexist, parternalistic.
Oh the irony........ (Yes this is a real place. I bought my set of Case kitchen knives from them).

How prevalent is pseudo-medicine?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Are you on Facebook? There is a crap ton of it out there. I've managed to block the worst of it. I'm into natural healing. I will try natural before drugs and I've done well so far. I research first though and I do have some common sense. Drinking turpentine, I don't think so. I use lavender oil to help me sleep, and oil of cloves did take away the pain from a tooth until I could get to the dentist for a root canal. I did go the dentist and I do take presecription meds for HTN. However, I know many ailments can be managed without prescriptions and prescription antianxiety drugs made me more forgetful and likely to take more risks. And NO! on the coffee enema, I can just see all sorts of problems with that. Lots of this comes from the antivaxer crazies, and hollywood pretty people with way too much time on their hands and way too much money.

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
When A&E were in the garden, they were the only people there. When they were banished they had to live among other peoples who worshipped other gods. How else did their sons find wives? A&E apparently had more than 30 children. I hope they founds other women for wives else there was a whole lotta incest going on. And that would explain so much. So I googled A&E and got some odd stuff I've never heard of before. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_of_Adam_and_Eve I gotta tell ya, that favoritism stuff is confusing and contradictory as hell. But in many stories of the buybull god is a capricous idiot who plays favorites. Why do I feel like I need a shower.
Who thinks atheism is a faith?
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
I see Atheism as lack of religious faith. I have faith in science, that the sun will come up in the morning. I have faith that my kids will always be there for me, and I for them. I have faith that if I drop dead my employer will be looking to replace me before my obituary is published. So yes, I have faith, but not in any beings that I cannot see, touch, or hear. Yeah, I'm like Thomas, if I can touch the nailholes I will beleive.

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 27, 2018:
Folding a fitted sheet into a nice, neat square. I don't understand why so many people have difficulties with it. I don't do it often, I'm most likely to wash and put them back on. Plaids that match. Put me near someone wearing a poorly assembled plaid garment and it is like fingernails on a chalk board. Following patterns in fabrics and objects. Which is part of the reason I quilt and sew.

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 25, 2018:
When I have dinner with my youngest there is a grace at the table. But then the youngest lives with her daddy, and it is his house. He gets to make the rules. Last time we had dinner over there the middle child and I made eye contact and rolled our eyes at the same time. She is so my child! I've never encountered it in a work situation and I think that might be illegal, unless it is a faith based organization. A moment of silence I think is acceptable, it is as the host wishes. However if it is work related and there is a prayer I am likely going to be doing some checking behind the scenes because I can think of a whole bunch of laws that may have been violated.
This is Destructo.

I don't really think about it, I was born when I was born. I've made choices to live differently than most Americans, but I don't think less of people for the choices they make. (Well, maybe I do, they're sheeple ;)) Things weren't necessarily simple or better in the old days. People died from minor crap that we can take care of simply now. JFK's baby died of Hylaine Memebrane Diesease which now we call IRDS Infant Respriatory Distress Syndrome. In 1957 95% of babies with HMD died. Today 95% of babies with IRDS survive. Women had fewer rights, Women stayed married becasue they had no choice. I needed my dad's signature when I was 18 to join the Army because I am FEMALE. OMG, that helped to clarify, for all the shit that is happening in the world, I'm so glad I wasn't born in my grandmother's day.
