An interesting and timely article: No, Being Religious Will Not Save You from Suicide ...
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 12, 2018:
Many years ago I knew a "good christian" woman married to a "good christian" man and they were working on that quiverfull of children. He went out for a jog and managed to hang himself. He did leave a note, not that it helped those who loved him. So, mental illness crosses the divide between those who believe and those who don't and it doesn't seem to help prevent suicides.
Jealousy. Is it a lack of self-esteem on the part of the jealous person?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I think jealousy indicates insecurity in the relationship, lack of trust for the partner. It could be an issue on either side. Is the jealous one insecure, or has the other one behaved in such a way to make the jealous one doubt the relationship.

Can you develop diabetes if you eat Ramen noodles everyday for 20 years?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 12, 2018:
There are so many other factors that will play into developing DM2 (Diabetes Mellitus type 2). If it si truly a concern for you, may I suggest you bounce that question off a qualified medical practitioner? Maybe a GP and a dietician. It also depends on what else you are eating. Seriously if you eat nothing but Ramen Noodles all day every day DM2 is likely to be the least of your worries, malnutrition would be a much larger concern.
I'm on this other dating website and I've never been married with no kids.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 12, 2018:
IMHO, don't think it is negative. To me it means you don't have baby mama drama. No child support and no alimony. All good things. It also means you might not understand my involvement with my kids, but I'm not going to assume the worst at the get go. I think you definitely dodged a bullet, that judgement was kinda harsh. It's not like you have inhabited another planet and you were a kid once and had parents. You know how those relationships work.

Suicide: a cowardly move? True or false?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 12, 2018:
I don't think people who are suicidal need to be judged. Suicide happens when the pain is so bad you cannot imagine a way out. It is mental illness. Until you have been there you will never understand, and I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone.

My cats like to knock objects off the kitchen table and other surfaces.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 11, 2018:
My cats knocked some glassware off the shelves, which is why I bought a closed cabinet to keep the glassware and other breakables in. I don't mind that it broke, I don't want them or the grandbabies to get cut, or glass in my carpet. I spent too many years with a sweet blind kitty. After she passed I got a younger cat, and then I got a kitten. Oy Vey! What was I thinking!
Name something you trust more than Trump.

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Before I started current job I had some time off between jobs, so I did some painting. I had always wanted to try an ombre wall, and I wanted a bedroom strictly in my taste, my fantasy, my sanctuary. I love the ombre wall, and I made the quilt as well. My bedroom makes me happy. I haven't had any visitors since the painting was done.

Age, why it matters, and why it doesn't in a relationship.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Personally I want someone within about 10 years of my age. I don't want to make a reference to something that has happened in my lifetime and have to explain what it is and why it is important. I dated a few younger guys, and a few really younger guys. I feel like I have already raised my children I want someone mature. Having kids is not an option for me, and I don't want to deal with someone else's minor dependents. A lot depends on the individual, I'd be open minded enough to consider it if someone who seems like a connection were to express interest.
Do you go to church just to keep the peace?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Since my awakening I have gone to church for a wedding, I was the mother of the bride. I think I did a Xmas eve service to make kids happy. Next time I likely go will be a christening or baptism. I'm the grandmother. So I don't think I'm keeping the peace, but I am being active with and supportive of my kids and grandkids.

Tithonia from my 2014 garden.
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 11, 2018:
Love the color! I had to look up Tithonia. Tithonia, also called Mexican Sunflower, is an annual plant that is native to Mexico and Central America. This drought tolerant plant likes warm weather. Tithonia blooms from summer to fall. The daisy-like flowers in orange and yellow, grow 2 1/2" to 3 inches across.I learned something new today! Thank you!

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 10, 2018:
I don't often go to movies or plays alone, but I have a few times. I go to nice restaurants alone often enough. The problem is I'm cheap. Why go to a movie when I can watch it at home and pause it when I need to.

Does anybody else hate using public bathrooms as well as other people’s bathrooms?
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 10, 2018:
Nope. When I gotta go I go where I am. I spent 6 years in the Army when I was in my early 20s, when you're out in the woods you're just happy for something to wipe with. More recently I had a job where I worked 12 hour shifts, and I often didn't get out of there on time, I did 13.5 hours one day. Yeah, you use the facilities when you can. There is nothing that is going to get you in a public restroom or someone else's. A few germs aren't going to hurt you.

What Religion Gives Us (That Science Can’t)
HippieChick58 comments on Jun 10, 2018:
I regard religion as a way of controlling the masses throughout history. The major Abrahamic religions are horrible for controlling and degrading women. I agree with @KKGator they helped create some art, but they have degraded women, delayed progress, enforced genocide, and enslaved millions. Calms whose fears? How many millions of indigenous people had their lives destroyed? The ugly truth is that religion is a way for the powerful to stay in power.
There isn't really a category for this, but the blame surely lies under this category.

HippieChick58 comments on Jun 9, 2018:
I was concerned I might be sacked, I've been struggling with my job for a long time. Now it is not going to kill me financially to be unemployed. So I made a list of everything I want to do if I end up with some unexpected free time. I keep it in my pocket and pull it out when the stress levels rise. My change of attitude and being able to relax a bit has actually helped me to do my job better. So now I'm thinking I likely won't be let go, and I'm kinda sorta disappointed. OTOH, health insurance so I will stay employed until I have other options for health care.
