My organization skills were lacking, and when I did organize it wasn't the right way. My housekeeping standards are relaxed and since I live alone it works for me and the kitty girls.

First, figure out what you like to do or who you want to be and go for it. I've always had projects and hobbies, I like to be busy. My empty nest coincided with divorce and reentry into the workforce, followed by unemployment. It was a rough time for me, but a time of personal growth. It is what pushed me away from religion to the understanding there is no good god looking out for us. It made me much stronger,and I'm thankful for it. The empty nest will be what you make of it. For me it was exciting to see my kids forge lives for themselves and become the wonderful young women that they are.

Every garden needs a pond. One of my favorite projects :)

I remember my mom making pickles and canning other vegetables. We gardened then out of necessity, six kids (3 were teenaged boys) and my dad was a brickmason and not infrequently unemployed. We may have been poor but we ate good.

Post divorce I had some struggles. I was unemployed for a while, and grossly underemployed and without benefits for a couple of years. (I sold Insurance, I am not a sales person) Some of the divorce details did not get taken care of properly, in fact took me 7 years to get it settled. Now that I've been continually employed for about 8 years and the details were settled, I'm in a good place. In fact, if health insurance wasn't an issue I think I'd consider taking early retirement.

Also, when someone on here tells me how I've helped them, that just makes me teary. I like to build people and encourage them. We all need someone in our corner giving us encouragement.

Some days it is tough as hell, and today was one of those days. For me, I keep going cuz I want my kids to be proud of me, to set an example for them and for the grandbabies. After bit I'm going to go have a sweet alcoholic frozen drink that is in my freezer as an impulse purchase (I did not notice the 42 grams of sugar when I bought it!!! ) And I might have some other relaxing activities, wallow in my misery for a bit, and then hope I sleep good and get up and try again tomorrow. Tomorrow is a new day, maybe a miracle will happen. Probably not, but maybe, hopefully it will be better than today. And hell, tomorrow is Friday, if it goes to hell like today did then at least I have the weekend to recoup.
