How important is it to people to have political compatibility?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
If someone is radical or evangelical about their faith I'm not going to include them in my life. If they are more lukewarm I'd at least get to know them. I would not date someone whose political ideology is terribly different than my own. If they voted for Drumpf and don't regret it, I would question their morals. If they are politically apathetic and can deal with my zeal it might be OK. However, i can see where they would not fit in my world well. They'd have more in common with my ex, and I just can't see that as a good thing.
A friend told me today that I am vibrant. I wonder, what does that mean?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
tonight if someone told me I was vibrant I'd probably cry and wonder what they heck they're smoking. And then ask for some. But on a normal day, yeah I have my moments and I'd just smile bigger and say thanks. Vibrant is not a matter of youth. I think we get more vibrant as we age. We get wiser, deeper, and so much more interesting. Honey, we have oodles of experience and we KNOW who we are. We have earned it. Thanks, my vibrant is coming back, but I'd still like to share what it is they're smoking.

Do you have family members that refuse to upgrade technology?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
Actually, no. I did some upgrades in my house, and I try to keep things in good shape. I got a new phone in November, and yes I bitched about it for a couple of months. I got a new laptop because the old one was having some issues. The dishwasher just got a new lower rack because it was rusting out. I will replace the top rack one day. The machine itself is still working. 2ish years ago the AC went out and the water heater was showing signs of trouble, so they were all replaced, and I'm still paying for it. I went with an on demand water heater. The car is 11 years old and I plan to drive it til the kids take my keys away. The fridge, stove, and microwave are original with the house, almost 16 years old. I have stuff that is older than my kids, I possibly still have stuff from when I was a kid. So, mixed bag.

Do you embrace simplicity in your life?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
My life is STILL a work in progress. I am simplifying but it takes time. One of my goals is to finish projects before I buy supplies for the next project. I am slowly getting rid of my excess. The kids are getting some of my things as I can sneak them over. I have a two go out before one comes in policy on shoes and clothing. I try to mend/repair before replacing. My goal is to be able to significantly downsize when I am ready to retire. 2388 days but who's counting.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:

Is trump being silly suggesting to fight fire with fire, ie.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
He isn't being silly, he is being unrealistic and dangerous. I will be the first to tell you I LOVE teachers, I have many teacher friends. I couldn't wait to send my kids out the door to school! However, as much as I love my teacher friends I would NOT want to see them with a firearm. That is a huge, huge, huge responsibility on top of all their other responsibilities. And hell, they aren't paid well now. Do we really want firearms around a thousand or so hormonal teenagers, Can anyone else see the potential problems with this? You don't want to give a firearm to someone who is not positive they could shoot to kill with it. Or who would waffle and end up getting the gun taken away and use on them. According to Mother Jones Myth Keeping a gun at home makes you safer. Fact-check: Owning a gun has been linked to higher risks of homicide, suicide, and accidental death by gun. • For every time a gun is used in self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home. • 43 percent of homes with guns and kids have at least one unlocked firearm. • In one experiment, one third of 8-to-12-year-old boys who found a handgun pulled the trigger. So Der Donald is being totally hugely irresponsible to suggest teachers be armed. When I thought he couldn't dig any deeper, he outdoes himself again.

Flip Side - Question for People Who Have Sex With Men
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 22, 2018:
Bad rhythm. The only time my ex got a good rhythm was right before he came, which meant I didn't. Being afraid or grossed out to try new or unusual things. My ex would masturbate, but not with me. I suggested mutual masturbation and he freaked. He was a vanilla type of guy. Being too rough. There is rough and then there is too rough, one is fun the other is not. The biggest turn off is someone who just wants to score. They don't care about my pleasure they just want theirs.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 21, 2018:
I would date a Muslim. I will never remarry so that isn't an issue. Whether I'd continue to date him would depend on how he treated me. I'm not going to dumb down or be subservient to any man, and I expect certain behaviors. But if the chemistry is right I'd give it a try.
Do you eat breakfast? Do you think it's the most important meal of the day?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 21, 2018:

If not for needing health insurance I wouldn't care.

I am a heathen!! I brew several bags of herbal teas in the morning, pour it over ice, and take it to work with me. Straight up, no sweeteners. I may do other herbal teas at night to help me sleep, those might be warmish. When I go out to restaurants I drink Iced tea, again straight up. Most work mornings I also drink coffee, that needs to be sweet and creamy. And I compost the used tea bags/teas leaves.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 21, 2018:
Sit with her and let her pray. Respect her beliefs. When she is a bit older you can tell her why don't pray. I am fairly sure if she is praying her parents have led the way, and I would try to be a good aunt and not piss off her parents. Not at age 10, but when she's older if you have a good relationship.

I only know my youngest daughter's because hers is the same as mine, and my oldest daughter's because hers is the same as my sisters whom I am closest to. I have not idea what the signs are for the rest of the family. I never read horrorscopes (misspelled deliberately) I even scoff at the Chinese horrorscopes. It is so totally bogus. If anyone gets going on that stuff I just sigh and try to change the subject.

If you could just pick up and move today where would you move to?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 20, 2018:
I am in Nebraska because my kids settled here. I almost moved in the first few years post divorce, but my reason for moving went all to hell. My youngest never really left Omaha, my middle daughter came back because we were here. And then the oldest who had never moved to Omaha with us, decided she needed to be close to family. So all my kids are here, one grandbaby and one on the way. I hate the weather, I hate the politics. If money was no object and all the kids and their families could move with me I'd move back to the Seattle area, or maybe Vancouver, BC.

I use wool balls in my dryer to help the clothes dry faster and soften the clothes. Today I freshened some drains by first pouring baking soda down them, followed by vinegar, followed by boiling water. DIYNatural.com has some great info, just ignore the christian slant.

Do women enjoy sex as much as men? Does it depend on who they're having sex with?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
All generalizations are false, including this one. For every example offered there will be a counter example. Sex is about (or to me is about) intimacy. It is about how I am feeling about myself, and my partner and our relationship. All that is influenced by how I am feeling at that time, both physically and emotionally. Younger men have more testosterone which leads to a higher sex drive. If you are getting your sex education from TV and movies you're in bad shape and we have just revealed a good deal of what is wrong in America, if not the world. I have enjoyed sex with some men, and there are some men I fear, and I not about to have sex with a man I fear.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the more religious someone is, the more they seem to fear death?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
I don't know, but when I was a Christian I did not fear death. I knew then that death is a part of life, no one lives forever. And I really don't want to live forever.
Are you racist?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 19, 2018:
I grew up in a small town. We were poor but we were white. The "minorities" in the town were Hispanics and Blacks. In HS we had three black students and I don't know the count of the Hispanics. They referred to themselves as Chicano. I didn't really "think" about it, it was just the way it was. I assumed everyone lived much like my family did, being the default value. I did not see any overt racism. Also, I was not the socializing type. I got along with everyone. Then I joined the Army and learned what racism was. And yes, I grew up fairly racist. I have evolved since then, but sometimes I hear some of my previous learning pop up in my head. I try to be an accepting person, I can't say I'm perfect.
How do you socialize?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 19, 2018:

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 18, 2018:
The first time I married (1977?) it was by a Justice of the Peace in Leominster, Mass. His main gig was undertaker. No music, no wedding dress, just friends with us followed by dinner. The second time was 1982 in Lyngby, Denmark in front of a judge who spoke no English. There were 6 couples getting married that day, all service members from Germany. It was much easier to get married in Denmark than in Germany. No music, no family present, no fancy dress, did have flowers, but pretty much bare bones. I will never remarry due to financial implications, unless the guy is hugely rich. But I'm not likely to find that, and not sure I want that.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
The first was when I was told my mom had cancer. I was 14, she was 44. She died at 45. It was 1972 she had ovarian cancer. Several years later that the doctor saw a problem in the ultrasound. The first time I was pregnant the hospital had a new ultrasound and every expectant mother got at least one ultrasound. This was 1982, ultrasound was new. I was newly wed, and got pregnant really easily and quickly. Before I got pregnant I was taking Tagamet for ulcers, and that depleted my body of folic acid, which led to the baby having several neural tube defects, one of them definitely ruled out life outside the womb. We were at a military hospital and the defects were substantial enough that they suggested abortion, which I agreed to.

Oh NOOOOO! I hope the little guy is OK.
What is the best road trip you have ever made?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 17, 2018:
Wow, I used to take lots of road trips. Before I was married and had kids I'd take off on a whim. I had a CB radio, used to talk to truckers. I took a few with the kids, they'd get nervous when I went off on boondoggles. I need a road trip soon.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
