How do I tell my family I'm an atheist?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 11, 2018:
First, why is it necessary that they know? What difference will it make if they don't know? Will it make your life better? Will it make their lives better? Can this be divulged on a "need to know" basis? I believe in being honest and I'm very forthright, however I am also discrete. If they don't need to know why bother?
Closet atheism

Nope. I am pretty open about being atheist, and those who matter know, those who don't matter may or may not know. It is not like wearing a scarlet letter.

Opposition To GMOs Is Neither Unscientific Nor Immoral
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
I prefer to avoid GMOs. I've read arguments both ways and I just don't want to be involved in a lab experiment. And I've never believed Monsanto had the people's best interest at heart. My late former FIL worked there for his entire career, he was a chemical engineer. The stuff he would tell us! Hell NO GMO for me.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Cats, dogs, and babies sleep after eating. Well, sometimes adult people do too. It takes energy to digest all that food. (think Thanksgiving feasts.) I free feed my cats. They get canned food in the morning after I get up and functional. The rest of the day they have dry food out and eat at will. I haven't yet had an overweight cat.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Yeah, I remember when I was first having babies, a friend lost her baby and was told by some wackjob that her baby would go to hell because it died before it could be baptized. That wackjob should have been drawn and quartered, what needless torment to do to a vulnerable person.
Just a thought...
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
Because some people don't ask for forgiveness, or their sin is so overwhelming that they cannot be forgiven, depending on which teaching you look at. For catholics there are mortal sins and venial sins. For Protestants the ultimate sin is to blaspheme God. Don't remember which is which or what the details are anymore.

What kind of pets do we all have?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
I have always had cats. My last old cat died November 2016. I had some work done on my house starting in December, then my contractor/worker bee (also son in law) got distracted and completion was delayed. His wife (my daughter) had a baby. When the work was finally completed Feb. 2017 I got Xena. A couple of months ago I got a second cat that turned out to be uber cat aggressive. And then she scratched the grandbaby, so she had to go back. Saturday I brought home a new kitten. Although Xena is mostly pissed still, they can at least be within 2 feet of each other without blood. So I have Xena and Zelda. i have three human children, ages 33, 29, and 25, the youngest has a year old baby, and the oldest is expecting. We had a golden retriever when the children were younger, best dog ever. He was the son I will never give birth to.
This is for the single ladies over 50.
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 10, 2018:
I look for guys close to my age, more than half the distance from my oldest daughter's age, so right now men over 47. I'm 60, she's 33. As far as how old, more than number is health. That is true for any age though. If you're convinced that you have one foot in the grave, I'm out. I'm not ready for the end just yet.

I like Oprah, but she's a tad flaky and has no background to deal with government. It's not entertainment, it is the very opposite of entertainment. Elizabeth Warren yes, but oh god no to Oprah.
