Who is your Valentine, on the most important day of the year.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 14, 2018:
My daughters, one granddaughter, and one grandchild still incubating. Ah, and the kitty girls who amuse me every day. (and 5 grand kitties and one grand dog) To me it is not the most important day of the year, it's just a day for retailers to try to sell you stuff you don't need on, and/or fill it with unmet expectations. There is no lover in my life, and I'm OK with that because I won't settle for just anyone.
I have an insatiable love for learning new skills.

Do you support businesses such as Chick-Fil-A, which are anti- LGBT and promote the Christian faith ...
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 14, 2018:
Nope, don't go to Chick-Fil-A or Hobby Lobby either. Hobby Lobby made too much of a thing of not wanting to pay for birth control. My employer should NOT be making health care decisions for me.

How often do you self-censor? Is it hard to bite your tongue?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I used to work in a medical call center, our lines were recorded. Yeah, self censor is helpful. As a parent you also self censor, kids are little parrots!
Have you ever used affirmations?

Should agnostic fat people date?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
Why does body size have any consideration to whether or not to date? You are first and foremost a person. I am a larger person as well, I have dated some. It gets harder as you get older. I struggle to understand where your question comes from, I know there are so many issues with body size and fat shaming is a thing. The best advice I have for you is first be the best you that you can be. You are wonderful and worthy just the way you are. Be happy with you, and whether or not you find a partner you will still be happy. If I overstepped my boundaries I appologize, I am a woman of size and a mom and your question apparently hit some of my Mama Bear buttons.

First date we meet in public and each provide our own transportation. No one gets my address until I'm ready to give it out. They often don't even get my last name til we meet in public, there's lots of weirdos out there.
Do you find it attractive dating someone who smokes cigarettes?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I spent 6+ years in the Army and smoked about a pack (yes, one) in all those 6 years trying to figure out what the attraction was. Cigarettes just annoyed the heck out of my already aggravated allergies. I have dated one smoker, and probably will never do that again. My ex was a non smoker and even more anti smoking than I was. One of our kids, in her rebellious phase started smoking, and hot boxing. She got in trouble at school and got expelled for the rest of the semester. I was a stay at home mom at the time. Her punishment was worse than death. She had to quit smoking cold turkey and was grounded until she got back in school. She had to spend nearly every waking moment with ME!. She never smoked again. We nearly killed each other, but today she is an amazing responsible young adult.

What is the purpose of life?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I'm somewhere between procreating, no purpose, finding joy, and just a freak occurrence of cells coming together in the right way at the right time. We're here, we may as well do something good. Or I've achieved my major purpose in passing on my DNA, I'm not sure how much use I am now except as a little cog in a big machine.

Okay single folks, how are you spending Valentine's day?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I will be working. I will have dinner with my kids on Thursday, not because of V day, but because we do every other Thursdays. V day will be just another day, but I think my manager might be planning some treats. Seriously, my office hands out more food than anyplace I've ever been before.
Are you happy?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 13, 2018:
I'm not unhappy. I like homeostasis, being on an even keel. I'm not in the heights, but not down in the dumps. Its a comfy place. I know for every height of happiness I will descend below the line, so lets just avoid the drama and be comfy.
Good morning all . . .

This Man Was Denied Life-Saving Treatment, So He Went to His Insurance Company to Find Out Why

Just remember, if your insurance company refuses a treatment you can request the record of who reviewed the request. If there is no MD signature on it you can appeal and likely win. Most first round denials are done by lowly clerks who have an algorithm to go by.

Date site protocol/preferences
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
acknowledgement is good as long as it is polite. On other sites I've politely explained I'm not looking for long distance or whatever reason (usually distance) and I've gotten push back. This makes me think they could be a scammer, and that if they aren't listening to me now they aren't going to listen in the future, so I block them.

Do you think, poor uneducated homeless people deserve protection their human dignity?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I think the homeless are generally poor, not necessarily under educated. Circumstances of downward mobility vary, however in the richest country in the world there is no excuse to have people living on the streets. There are too many other options for housing and care. Among the homeless population there is a great deal of untreated mental illness which needs to be addressed. But all people deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion.
Just for laughs :)

What are some things you’re not able to tolerate as you get older?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I rarely answer when the doorbell rings if I don't know who is coming. If I don't expect someone to show up then they are not invited and likely to be selling something, and I don't have time to waste. I don't read many magazines, I am not ready to sell my house, I have a fairly new roof, and I don't want cookies/candy/popcorn/gift wrap or other such crap from your school. I rarely wear cosmetics anymore. I'm not horrible looking but I'm also not trying to impress anyone. I have less tolerance for extremes of cold and heat. Kinda sucks, but at least I can put on more clothing in winter to keep warm. I don't tolerate crap from sales clerks in stores. I had a cashier comment on something I was buying, I first asked for an explanation of the comment, then I asked for the manager to come over. Then I emailed corporate. I hope it was a good learning experience for the cashier. How is that for starters.
Where to start with these idiots.

That makes sense, A woman/girl who knows her own self and self worth is more likely to own her own desire and know what she wants. A "good girl" is likely to go along just to be a good girl. I was a good girl for a while. I'm so glad I got over that s**t.
Tips for dealing with anxiety?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 11, 2018:
I feel your pain, I have had anxiety and panic attacks for too long. I have a bottle of essential oils for anxiety/panic that I keep on my desk and use as needed. I drink teas with Valerian, chamomile, passion flower, and/or lavender. Can you identify what is causing the anxiety? Mine gets ugly when my work load gets out of control. Get some books on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and check your community for low cost/no cost counseling. In Omaha the Methodist Health System has counselors on sliding scale or free. When I was unemployed I used that service.
Legalize it?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I have never met an angry pot smoker (back in my day we called them stoners, my kids tell me I shouldn't use that term.) I have met and dealt with angry drunks. I don't like angry people. I think it should be legalized, taxed, regulated, and enjoyed. If you want to make the drive I will share.
What is the value of money?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Money is an agreed upon medium of exchange. It represents the amount of time I spend at work that I can exchange for stuff I think I need, food, shelter, movie tickets. Money is a tool, it has no characteristics of being good or bad. It can be used for good or bad, just like a hammer can.
Is everyone feeling sad about not having a romantic partner on Valentines Day?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
I have no interest in providing extra money to retailers. Vday is a made up holiday that has no meaning to me. When I was in a relationship I did not need to be told that a certain date had certain obligations. As a single person I am not diminished in any way not having a partner. My worth as a person is not measured by bling on my finger or relationship status. However, I will go out the day after and stock up on half price chocolate to keep in my office to share with my fellow minions.

HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Shaking hands is professional however, think Bob Dole. Not everyone is able or wants to; it is flu season and some people have arthritis in their hands. I like the idea of bowing, but in the US that could come off very weird. However, it is never wrong to fall back on cultural norms. In the US go for a handshake, even if they deflect you won't be wrong. Fist bump among friends. Keep your eyes mostly on the face of the person you are greeting. When in doubt, ask.

Vegan vs non-vegan diet for babies
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
My kids did not eat peas or lima beans at my house because I loathe them. Their father's parents introduced my kids to those veggies. Was that child abuse? Well, I think so :) but not really. I fed my kids how I fed myself. As a parent you HAVE to impose your will on your child it is called parenting. This is why we have so many kids with no manners running around because the parents are afraid of crushing junior. Kids are resilient, they survive and hopefully have had the shit knocked out of them and grow up to be responsible adults.
What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend when it is pouring down with rain outside?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 10, 2018:
Where I live we have snow, and single digit temperatures on the Fahrenheit scale so Celcius is about negative 10. I'm not going outside unless I have to. I have 8 or 9 books from the library that are waiting to be read. I have a quilt in progress for the new grandbaby that will be here in May, I have some delicious teas. I have no shortage of stuff to do, even if it is Netflix and chill.
