How proud are you of your state?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 6, 2018:
I live in the flatlands in the middle of America, and Pete Ricketts is our governor. Very conservative, and currently freezing cold backwater. I am here because we moved here in 2005 for the ex's job. 2 of the kids graduated here and have stayed because their parents were here and they found jobs here and have put down some roots. The oldest moved here when she wanted to be closer to family, now she's married and starting a family. I actually grew up about 150 miles west of where I live now. I left the state after HS and didn't really expect to ever come back. Suhprize! Grandbabies are here, I'm staying.
Conservatives: What is your most liberal view? Liberals: What is your most conservative view?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 6, 2018:
I don't think I've ever narrowed down my views to see where they fall in the spectrum. There are some political stances that I don't know enough about to make a truly informed opinion. When it comes to making a decision on that ballot issue I will read up on it. Generally I'm liberal but not always informed on all issues.
Anyone else ready for this winter to be over?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 6, 2018:
I am sick of winter, we got 5 inches of snow yesterday and it is 0 degrees this morning, with a potential high of 10. February sucks. At least I got gas over the weekend so I am good til the end of the week at least.

What’s your longest dry spell?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 5, 2018:
About 8 years while I was married. I know the last time my ex and I had sex. And knowing him, he is still in that dry spell. After we split I did not exercise good judgement a few times. More recently, I really don't remember the last time I created the beast with two backs. More than a year for sure. After reading the comments I decided I needed to clarify. The ex is a web master of a xian website. He would get up early to work on the website before he went to work and therefore go to bed at 8 in the evening to get enough sleep. He also worked on the site after he got home from work. We had teenagers. When do you find out what is going on in teenagers lives? Closer to 11pm, that's for sure. So, he was already asleep when I'd get to bed, and I was pissed because he was never there for us. I still loathe that website. So, I never woke him up when I went to bed. And I could use my toys while he slept and never wake him.
I just realised how much it actually bugs my rather compulsive sense of constancy, that often I find...

I do need to get some exercise, but it was 14 degrees with snow as I was coming home. I take a few supplements and avoid processed foods.

Are you a Feminist? If so, what does it mean to you?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 5, 2018:
In 1976 I wanted to join the Army. I had to have my dad sign the enrollment forms... I had to have daddy's permission. Had I wanted to get a credit card about that time I would have had to have daddy's permission. My male classmates of the same age did not have to have permission. This is why I am a feminist. I was smarter and more responsible than many of my male classmates, yet I needed permission to do what I wanted.... I only want equal rights and authority over my own body and my own life. Because of the battles of women before me and after me my daughters will never have to and never had to ask daddy for permission.

My favorite would be walking/hiking. Least favorite - anything where the athletes are paid astronomical amounts of money and treated like they are above the law. Also least favorite - any "sport" that uses an exorbitant amount of fossil fuels and creates a great deal of noise. Followed by any "sport" that hurts animals.

I'm a Nebraska native but lived in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett area for 6 years. I loved the Stellar's Jays. Not a bird but I encountered a Chickaree up there, cute as anything but an annoying little bark. I was looking for a small child with a squeaky toy. I love seeing the Cardinals and blue jays out here. I don't get much time to look for birds right now.

And I gotta tell you, I am positive most so called christians don't read it.
Heard this a couple times If the relationship takes work, It's the wrong relationship.
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 4, 2018:
Relationships take work, and compromise, and communication. The don't just happen, they are a living thing that needs to be nurtured. I trained a dog once, and as I was studying up on it the prevailing wisdom was you get the dog you deserve. If you put effort in you get a great dog. Same as for your relationship with others. Put the effort in and your relationship will be better for it. And the other wisdom is you don't "find" a good spouse, you become a good spouse.

I'm grateful to my ex that we produced amazing kids and didn't mess them up too bad. You don't have to be grateful to a who, you just have to be aware that you're pretty well off compared to others. Do you have a (relationship with your) car?
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 3, 2018:
I have an 11 year old red Toyota Rav4. My ex always wanted to buy new cars, his folks bought a new car every other year, and the older cars ended up as cars for grandkids to drive as they got to be teenagers and got their license. They almost always had Chevy Citations or the like. After we had kids I persuaded the ex that we needed a minivan, and we had 3 Chrysler Voyagers in 18 years. When the kids were leaving home he thought the last Voyager was getting old and after test driving every smaller SUV, I chose the Rav4. I kept the Rav after the divorce. The youngest named it Elmo. Elmo has a sunroof which I love. Elmo is also paid for, which I love. I have told the kids that when they think I should stop driving they will likely have to pry Elmo's keys out of my cold dead hands.

Americans/slavery Germans/holocaust
HippieChick58 comments on Feb 3, 2018:
This is very sad, and I understand it should be. Slavery, US Apartheid of the Indigenous peoples, and the Holocaust are horrible examples of man's cruelty to man. I have been to Dachau and to the US Holocaust museum. It was easy to distance it as happening over there. However slavery and the apartheid of the indigenous people of the US are largely swept under the rug. I think in the US as a nation we need to identify our responsibility to see that ends. To acknowledge it and put process in place to assist the descendants of those harmed, and to educate the future generations of how easy it was to look the other way. I personally did not participate, but I am a descendant of those that did, and I have benefited as my skin is white, and as long as I am breathing I will speak out against that inhumanity and demand justice.

Mothers of teenagers know why some animals eat their young. Buckle your seat belt, you're in for a few wild years. Consistency is the key, and clear communication of expectations. One of my kids ended up in a room stripped of all comforts until her attitude improved, she had basics, and I chose her clothes for the day. No electronics, not even a lamp. She was forced to spend time with the family. Correct behavior earned her stuff back. You have to have some backbone and be ready for some tough love. And let him/her know that you love them. My awful teen turns 30 this year and is an amazing young woman. I'm so glad I didn't drown her!

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
