What tricks do your pets do?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 27, 2018:
I have cats. The tricks are making mama run when she hears a crash from another room. And feeding them before she feeds herself. And the best trick of all, making Mama wad up cash register receipts into little balls which we will play with for hours and then shred for her to pick up. When I had a Golden he was trained to wait when humans were on the stairs, to ring a bell when he wanted to go outside. He was trained to bark on command both with voice and hand signals. He had sit and stay down pat, and he'd search out a semi hidden object. He had several hand commands, I could have him lie down and wait from a distance. Chief was trained to wait until released when we put his food bowl on the floor, and he was trained (by accident) that "uh oh" meant go clean up food spills off the kitchen floor. The dog liked frozen broccoli. He would toss a biscuit off his nose and catch it. Do your duty meant go take a poop. Chief has been gone about 9 years. He was the best brother my girls ever had, and the fur son I never gave birth to. Best dog ever.
I have a friend.

Who the hell is Mary? Why is it important for Sally to be married? Personally I see no benefit to being married. Not like there will be babies and I would suffer a huge financial loss were I to marry. I want a long term monogamous relationship. So, back to Sally. her heart is involved but the guy's heart isn't. I'd say Run Sally Run. There is no future there and the more you hang on him the worse it will hurt. To thine own self be true Sally. Do what is best for you Sally, your lover doesn't love you.

Bad, bad, bad advice. What is the WORST advice someone ever gave you out of love?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 27, 2018:
When I was in my mid teens (1973) my mom's family had a reunion, and two of mom's sisters and their families brought my sisters and I along with them to Florida for the reunion. Mom had died a few months before and this prompted the semiannual family reunions. One of my uncles gave me the worst advice ever, but for the time it was pretty normal. He told me to never let a boy/man know that I was smarter than he was. It would destroy my chances of finding a husband.

Just got back from my first ever solo vacation.
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 27, 2018:
Last February I took my first solo vacation. I went to Corpus Christie, TX because I wanted a winter vacation to someplace warm. I enjoyed it. I've taken business trips, and I've taken trips to meet someone, , this was the first trip just so I could see a new place. I touristed, read, ate at good restaurants, and did some shopping. In the fall I am planning a trip to Winnipeg for three reasons. I can drive there, and I still have an active passport, and I've never been there. When I came home from Corpus my daughter told me she was proud of me for striking out on my own.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 27, 2018:
Seriously, when we were on a long trip I had kids being brats. I made them copy bible verses. It was effective in that it got their attention and the crap stopped. I can't say I never spanked, but I was more the type to "make the punishment fit the crime" or find an alternative punishment. I was spanked hundreds of times, and to this day I think much of it was my parent's frustration at having too many kids and not enough money. I also insisted on accountability, which is so not done these days. And I have AMAZING kids today.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 27, 2018:
Most employers over a certain size have to abide by the Family and Medical Leave Act, which means allowing you time off to care for family members or your own serious medical condition. I often see FMLA paperwork in my job, and sometimes I glean important information from it. I've never had a reason to use it, but I know it is there if I need it. You don't get paid using FMLA, but your job is protected. You do have to pay insurance premiums, I believe.

The day I got home from the hospital with my youngest child I got a summons for jury duty. I lived in Hampton, VA. I've always wanted to serve on a jury, but after a c-section and nursing a baby, that was not good timing. In the past year I received a summons for jury duty here in Omaha. They let you call in to find out if they need you, and I wasn't needed that day. Sigh. And said baby from the first time was 25 when I got the second summons. If they call me in another 25 years I'm likely to be dead.

A type of spirituality
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 26, 2018:
When all else fails look up the definition of the word. Spirituality: the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things."the shift in priorities allows us to embrace our spirituality in a more profound way" And from Wikipedia: Traditionally, spirituality refers to a religious process of re-formation which "aims to recover the original shape of man," oriented at "the image of God" as exemplified by the founders and sacred texts of the religions of the world. In modern times the emphasis is on subjective experience of a sacred dimension[1] and the "deepest values and meanings by which people live,"[2][3] often in a context separate from organized religious institutions. Given those definitions I don't think what you're doing is necessarily spiritual. It sounds very satisfying but not necessarily spiritual. Very artistic. Whatever you do, don't stop doing it if it makes you happy.

How many people here have lived overseas
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 26, 2018:
I have lived on military bases in Okinawa and Germany. The challenge is the language outside the base. In Okinawa they taught us what the sign looked like for a pharmacy, those were strictly off limits. Apparently there was stuff you could get OTC that the US government considered a restricted substance. I really stuck out in a crowd in Okinawa, I was taller than most of the population and blond. Germany was cool, I was there both single and married. Again the language was a barrier, but I could pass unnoticed in a crowd as my forebears were Germans. Both places I loved to eat at local places, loved to explore. Being young and stupid had advantages, I never realized how crazy I was just taking off and exploring and got back to where I belonged by mostly dumb luck.

Soooo yeah, just attending college knowing the direction I was going, and the uncertainty, and knowing I had to support myself was scary as hell. In fact, I did find a good job not too long after I got my Associate's degree. And then the economy tanked and so did my job. So all my worst fears came true. She had three old manual typewriters. She had every Reader's Digest Condensed Version ever printed. She had an opened bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream. She had over 200 paper bags full of paper back books. She never married, never had kids, and lived in her house for over 40 years. She had bank records, and papers and clothing still with tags on, and the car she could no longer drive because they took away her driver's license. That car sat in the garage for at least 10 years without ever being moved. It was craycray, and I will not do that to my kids.

How many need a TWIC card to do work your job?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 24, 2018:
Never had one.
Anyone of us on here going to the Superbowl?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 24, 2018:
I'm not a sports fan. I have deliberately watched exactly one Superbowl, and I don't get it.
How you feel about mac and cheese?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 24, 2018:
Not my favorite at the best of times. My kids like to add sriracha to theirs which guarantees I will stay even further away.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
