How do you deal with Door-knockers?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
If I am not expecting anyone I might not answer the door. My kids know to call before they head my way, and they know how to get in. And then if I do answer the door I'm pretty good with saying "get the hell off my porch."
I'm interested in what everyone thinks about morality.
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I believe I can be good without god. Just because I don't believe in god doesn't mean I have no morals. I do unto others and generally try not to be a turd. And I think I do a damn good job.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I love my kitties! I got a cat last February that is approximately two years old now. And two weeks ago I got a six month old kitten. They are still settling in, lots of hisses and spitting. They're getting better. I will always live with at least one cat. When I can't have a cat I don't want to hang around.
Why do people believe that there is a afterlife?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I think it is partly brainwashing, and partly wanting to believe something will be better in your life. Yes, when you look at religions rationally, god is really a mean freak.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I don't care what I look like, I've never thought I was pretty or cared about it. I want to be accepted for who I am. If that makes me more attractive to someone I guess that is good. Beauty if in the eye of the beholder. I'd rather be a good person with great character, a smart, caring, loyal person than be a beautiful person who has no character, smarts, compassion, or empathy. The only thing I really care about looks wise is I don't want to scare small children.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I worked awfully damned hard to get lucky. My kids are amazing now, but I worked with them and was there for them, and I was a "mean" mom that held them accountable and kept them from doing stupid stuff and gave them enough room to do stupid stuff with some safety. My less than humble opinion is in parenting, you don't get lucky. You do the work. Dog trainers will tell you a person gets the dog they deserve. I put time and effort into training my dog too, he was awesome. Same as my kids. There are some things I couldn't change. The youngest takes the easy way out and is very laid back, too laid back, kinda flaky. But there is only so much you can do. She's not horrible. Nature vs Nurture.

My kids would be fine with it. I need someone I can talk to about everything. Someone who is conservative or religious is just going to piss me off. I am amicable with my ex and we are together for kids birthdays, holidays, and now grand babies. We get along fine until he starts talking politics or religion, or quite a few other things. We have a few things we can discuss. I leave those extended family occasions thinking how glad I am that I (1) didn't kill him, and (2) am no longer married to him. Miss the money, not the man.

Natural Selection, or Universal Healthcare?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
What is the price of human life? What is the price to society of neglecting health? The Tide pod issue is not a healthcare issue, it is a marketing and social media issue. When heathcare is rationed the health of the population suffers and it costs more in the long run. ERs are used for primary care which wastes their resources. If every citizen has access to health care and can take care of their basic health, medical costs will drop. For example, if diabetes is treated properly it will avoid endless complications. ERs frequently end up treating and admitting poor diabetic individuals who end up with emergency amputations and other complications. That is NOT a good use of resources. The US is so far behind the rest of the world in this aspect it is shameful.
Hi! I'm so glad there is a website for people like us now.
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
Through my work I deal with some religious organizations. I hear or read "have a blessed day" or similar comments frequently. I just let them roll on past. Don't get your garters in a knot for something trivial. I don't make it a habit to discuss my religion or lack thereof at work, or much of anyplace else. I know you're in a conservative area, I used to live in the KC area. My policy is to share on a "need to know" basis. Do they need this information, or do I need to put it out there? Usually not. Just like if I had a medical condition, ie: Would it affect someone negatively to know I had Herpes? Not that I do. Also, consider the intention, they're wishing you well. Welcome to the site, I think you will like it here.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I haven't reached that point yet, or do you mean my marriage? For my marriage it was when I was spending my first waking moments and my final moments before sleep trying to figure out how to make it look like an accident. And how to survive on what I was able to earn, and how I didn't really want to deprive my kids of anything. I tried for a very long time, the kids tell me it was too long.

Where you ever a Pentecostal or Charismatic Christian?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I think I was in a charismatic church twice. Once I was there with a BF that was catholic. The congregants were all dancing, shouting, and clapping. He was seriously alarmed. I leaned closer to him and told him "relax, remember we're the frozen chosen."

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I am not sure I want to live to be 100. My goal is to live as long as I have money to do what I want to do, and as long as I can keep doing what I want to do. If I lose my eyesight I may as well shuffle off. I like to sew, read, do crafts. I'm very visual.

Two of my three daughters are avowed atheists, though one is married to a catholic. #3 goes to church to make daddy happy. (he has money and they live with him for various reasons for them and him) I have told my kids to do what makes them happy. If they want to a casket and funeral, or if they want to let the state handle it. I am not going to be there, I don't really care. It won't be me anymore. I do like the idea of a tree growing out of my remains though. I'm not the party type. I have a friend who wants pregnant nuns at his funeral. Several of his lady friend are to obtain habits and strap on a pillow. I think a post-menopausal pregnant nun would be hysterical.
How hard is it to compliment people instead of critizing?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
I don't think it is a one size fits all situation. In my work day I frequently have to contact HR departments for additional information. Once in a while they respond in seconds, and I always try to thank them and let them know how amazing I think that is. It is tax time and HR departments and my company are swamped, so turn around time of many days is more the norm. I try to say something good as soon as there is something good to say. The other side of that is something I got from Lord Mountbatten many years ago. "Never complain, never explain." The never explain I usually don't get to skip, but only complain if it is truly constructive.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
Now that I think about it, 1979 in Okinawa, no booze, booty, or anything. Woke up and could not figure out where I was or why I was there. Weirdest feeling ever! I worked rotating shifts, so I was sleeping during the daytime. It was like I had total amnesia for a few minutes. Then I saw something I'd had for a long time and all the memories fell back into place. Sort of like seeing your whole life flash in front of your eyes. I've never experienced that again, but I remember that feeling of disorientation, kind of out of body or who am I experience.

HippieChick58 comments on Jan 20, 2018:
Not for a long, long time. When I was young and in the Army, and really foolish, I had a few nights that I wasn't sure how I got back to my room, and other times that I didn't know how a few tchotchkes got broken. I was lucky that back when I was young and foolish the STD rate was really low.

But I want to be nearby to see the babies grow up.

Tomatoes fresh from the garden are so much better than grocery store varieties. They taste like sunshine.
What age should be the age of legal consent for sex?
HippieChick58 comments on Jan 17, 2018:
I think maturity and age do not go hand in hand, but I know legally there is no way to measure maturity. I also want children to be children and to prevent childhood (innocence) from ending too early. So I think 18 is good. The same age that you are old enough to vote and have other adult privileges. When I was 18 that was also the legal drinking age.

Yes, I've seen men looking for tall slim gals. Well, be happy with that stick, I have curves and got built way too close to the sidewalk. The tall gene skipped me. HippieChick58 comments on Jan 17, 2018:
LOL, my first overnight camping was in the Army. I don't think that counts, but to be fair I was still a teenager. OK 19.

Love it!! I might even eat there, I usually avoid hot dogs.
This is a light hearted post.

January 13, 2021 My newest and smallest grandchild. She arrived 5 weeks early and is now 2.5 weeks old and is less than 7 pounds. I've never held such a small baby before. She is quite perfect and very amazing. I love being a Grammy.
