North of Omaha there is a chicken processing plant in Fremont that made the local news recently. The residents fought hard to keep the plant out, but lost. Whodathunk it could be such a problem now.

The non care provider staff can wear cloth masks, those with patient contact will wear other masks. I still work full time in the office, we can remove our masks at our desks so long as we are 6 feet from the next employee. Our cubes are large enough we can do that. I wear my mask as soon as I get out of my car until I am settled at my desk. I also wear it when/if I go shopping or anyplace else. It isn't herd mentality, it is herd immunity. We are protecting the weaker members of society. It is the same reason we get vaccinations, as much to protect us as to protect those that can't get the vaccination due to weakened immune systems.

HippieChick58 replies on May 23, 2020:
@Alchemy I have never claimed to be a nurse. I do however work for a hospital and I read the briefings they send out every day if not more often. I have an adult child that tested positive for TB when she was 5. We had just moved to Washington state, all children entering the state school districts were required to be tested. No one else in the family or extended family and community we left behind tested positive. The pulmonologist that was also a full bird colonel explained it was possible that someone coughed on her in McDonalds. That child had to take an awful liquid medication for 6 months to kill that germ. She was too young to swallow pills yet. She is 32 now, she STILL remembers the medication. As with TB, you never know who in a crowd may be carrying an infectious disease. Most people don't deliberately spread disease. But it only takes one person to mess up the next several months of your life. My hospital has sent out information that a cloth face mask will drop your odds of breathing in the disease to about 79%. If the other person is wearing a mask your risk of contamination drops to less than 2%. We are required to wear our cloth masks when we are on the hospital property but away from our desks. If a coworker joins us at our desk we both should be masked. I am willing to bet my hospital has the latest and most up to date information. And yes, they have reported that some of the provider staff have tested positive for Covid. Considering the risk in a population of nearly 3000 one case is very low.

I do see this changing, especially among young women who are delaying marriage and not going to church. @TheGreatShadow I haven't shopped at WM in years, and it kills me now that my groceries come from WM because daughter shops there as she was employed by them and got a discount. I don't shop at Home Depot or Lowe's because of anti union activity. I don't shop Hy-Vee because I prefer Trader Joe's, Fresh Thyme, and Natural Grocers. I agree about Amazon but I need the convenience. I won't carry a buck knife because it won't fit in my pocket, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a tweezers, nail file, and toothpick. I have other knives that stay home, and a fairly complete tool kit. I even have two electric drills which I discovered when I moved into my house. I don't know why I have two drills. It is handy when the charge runs out on one that I can usually finish with the other. I like to be self sufficient. If I can't be, I have another daughter and son in law that are carpenters. If they can't help out I hire a professional.

The quilt top is now folded up in my sewing room waiting for a good time to take it to the shop for mom to choose the backing and quilting pattern. We're all hoping Austin doesn't figure out he can climb out of his crib any time soon. So, if I understand you, your blood pressure medication should be out of pocket, not matter what it costs? The cost should not be covered by your employer sponsored health insurance? Which also means if you ever want Viagra or any of that genre of medication it would be out of pocket. Insurance companies do make profits, obscene profits. Most insurance company CEOs are making high six figure if not 7 figure incomes. I don't ever want my employer making health care decisions for me. If I need oral contraceptives to fight acne or uterine fibroids, I don't want to have to discuss that with HR. I want my health insurance to cover my prescriptions. Have you priced any of these drugs? I talked to a mom who had BCBS, they gave her hell about paying for CHEMO for her child. She had a $50,000+ bill. Why did I talk to this mom, I work in the billing office of a hospital. Insurance companies are totally SHIT.
