LINKHere's the problem for Donald Trump with the Atlantic story - CNNPolitics
(CNN)On Thursday night The Atlantic published a bombshell story that alleged -- citing four anonymous sources -- that President Donald Trump had repeatedly mocked US soldiers killed in battle and skipped a visit to a veterans' cemetery in France out of concern that rainy conditions would mess up his carefully coiffed hair. The report immediately became a massive story, with Democrats -- including Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden -- rushing to condemn Trump for his alleged behavior ...

These are up-to-date values for Rt, a key measure of how fast the virus is growing. It’s the average number of people who become infected by an infectious person. LINKThe scandals surrounding Trump are beginning to overlap in strange ways - The Washington Post
By Aaron Blake September 2, 2020 at 8:12 a.m. CDT President Trump’s proclamation that he’d surround himself “only with the best” people has been undermined again and again as his presidency has progressed. That’s thanks to a progression of campaign and administration officials who have been accused and convicted of crimes, turned against him, or some combination of the two. And increasingly, these proven and alleged scandals are running together in rather remarkable ways. ...

Iowa’s exploding COVID-19 outbreaks at state universities in Ames and Iowa City are now disasters that can only be fully measured on a global scale. Ames holds the distinction this morning as the worst coronavirus outbreak in the entire United States, while Iowa City is at third on the list. The per capita rates are worse than any individual country in the world, and appear to surpass any state in some of the other currently hardest-hit countries.

LINKOpinion | One nation ‘under God’? More and more Americans don’t think so. - The Washington Post
In the United States, one of the most consequential cultural changes of our time may be the swift and seemingly accelerating decline of religious commitment. Historically, Americans have recorded relatively high levels of worship-service attendance and belief in God, as compared with their peers in advanced industrial societies such as Europe or Japan. The U.S. example seemed to show that faith could survive in an environment dominated by science and technology. A forthcoming book by ...

LINKTrump's Weaponization of USPS and the Census - The Atlantic
President Donald Trump’s open admission yesterday that he’s sabotaging the Postal Service to improve his election prospects crystallizes a much larger dynamic: He’s waging an unprecedented campaign to weaponize virtually every component of the federal government to partisan advantage. Trump is systematically enlisting agencies, including the Postal Service, Census Bureau, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security, that traditionally have been considered at least ...

CHICAGO (AP) — False claims that Kamala Harris is not legally eligible to serve as U.S. vice president or president have been circulating in social media posts since 2019, when she first launched her Democratic primary campaign. As a person born in the U.S., at least 35 and a resident for at least 14 years, she is eligible for the nation’s highest office as prescribed in the Constitution.

LINKRobert Trump, the president’s younger brother, dead at 71
New York – President Donald Trump’s younger brother, Robert Trump, a businessman known for an even keel that seemed almost incompatible with the family name, died Saturday night after being hospitalized in New York, the president said in a statement. He was 71.

LINKThe Undertold, Undersold Story of Kamala Harris
When I saw on Wednesday morning that Kamala Harris had released a short video marking and celebrating her selection as Joe Biden’s running mate, I clicked — eagerly and instantly. I wanted to continue riding my wave of excitement about all the firsts: first woman of color on a major party’s presidential ticket, first Black woman specifically, first Asian-American. By the time I finished the video, that wave had crashed. OK, that’s an overstatement. But as I listened to her flat, ...

LINKReporter Who Called Out Trump For "All The Lying" Had This To Say About Donald: "I Have Never Encountered A Public Official, A Candidate, Or An Actual Criminal Who Is As Regularly And Aggressively Dishonest As The President."
Back in January, the reporter that threw Trump completely off his game at the Thursday press conference (in which he asked the president whether he regretted all the lying he’s done since he took office) wrote a piece that likely should have told us all what he might do if called on at a presser as he was. S.V. Dáte , the White House Correspondent for HuffPost, penned an article that detailed not just the particulars of some of the more egregious and some of the more overlooked of...

LINKOpinion | Trump refuses to learn the lessons of World War II - The Washington Post
I don't think Don has the capacity to learn. “JAPAN SURRENDERS, END OF WAR!” So screamed the front page of the normally sedate New York Times on Aug. 15, 1945 — 75 years ago this Saturday. When the news had flashed on the moving electric sign in Times Square the night before, the newspaper reported, half a million revelers let out a “victory roar” that “beat upon the eardrums until it numbed the senses. For twenty minutes wave after wave of that joyous roar surged forth.” ...

LINKThe Minneapolis Cop Who Is Awaiting Trial For Killing George Floyd Got Charged With Another Felony
TL:DR - According to a report from The Star Tribune, the Minneapolis police officer who murdered George Floyd, along with his wife Kellie Chauvin, has now been charged with felony tax crimes. I would much prefer if ya gotta commit a felony it is tax evasion or the ilk. This having cops commit murder is not civilized.

LINKThis 21-year-old thought he had overcome a mild case of Covid-19. Then he went into organ failure - CNN
Spencer Rollyson says he didn't think much of it when he experienced mild coronavirus symptoms in May. Weeks later, the disease almost took his life. "I never thought, at 21, I would be on the verge of death," he said. Initially, the infection seemed just like the flu or a cold, he said, and the symptoms lasted for a few days. "About a week and a half, two weeks later, I started feeling bad," he said. Rollyson said he went to the emergency room with a 103.4-degree fever and doctors ...

LINKAnti-suffrage movement: Women who fought the vote and 19th Amendment - Washington Post
Susan B. Anthony stood on a stage in Upstate New York, asking a crowd to support the suffragist cause, when someone in the audience asked a question: Do women actually want the right to vote? Her answer was hardly unequivocal. “They do not oppose it,” Anthony replied vaguely. She had little reason to believe otherwise, as recounted in Susan Goodier’s book, “No Votes for Women: The New York State Anti-Suffrage Movement.” It was 1893, and suffragists were traveling across New ...

LINKDr. Sanjay Gupta: Why I am not sending my kids back to school - CNN
One of the questions I am getting more than any other: Am I going to send my children back to school? As a father of three teen and preteen girls, this has been a constant discussion in our household, and it hasn't been easy. My girls want to go back to school, and they are placing enormous pressure on us parents to make it so. They miss their friends, the social structure and the immersion in humanity that kids need and crave at this age. Virtual learning has played an important role for them, ...
