@Spinliesel I love my Rav. It has been comfortable on long trips, hauls about everything, and only when my sciatica was really acute did I ever have discomfort driving it. I am about 5'4" now, and it is easy to get in and out, I don't feel like I have to make an effort to get in or out.

@RavenCT My daughter's best girl friend and former roommate gave birth yesterday. Dad was allowed to be in the delivery room, but no one can visit the hospital. My supervisor's daughter gave birth last Saturday. They went home on Sunday, but her granddaughters have spent the last week at her house. I think you can't be too careful with the new babies. My sister and brother in law have a son (he's 32) with CF. BIL still works daily in a steel mill. Son is living in the basement. BIL does all the shopping. He and son never see each other. They are afraid with CF the virus would be fatal for Adam. It is a really nice basement but I am sure he is bored stiff. Crazy times we live in.

That social distancing thing... should you be asking neighbors to watch your kids now? I have a coworker who has family gatherings every weekend, and I'm really NOT pleased that she is still coming into the office every week. I believe if I get COVID it will be from her. There are lots of hard choices to be made now, I would not criticise the mom for taking her daughter to the store with her. We don't know what or who she has at home.

HippieChick58 replies on Apr 14, 2020:
@MeggieCleary I generally call it flexitarian. I eat vegetarian most of the time, except when I either feed or eat with my kids and their families. Then we have meat. I always try to be a good guest and eat what they prepare. We used to have dinner together every other week, and then Corona.... When I'm alone I was vegan for a few months but it was too restrictive. And now that Corona has everything discombobulated and I'm not going to the grocery store and it's too hard to explain to my shopper what I need, and she doesn't shop where I was shopping. I'm eating more meat and way more comfort food. When Corona ends I will segue back to vegetarian.

A few years ago she again took pictures of funnel clouds, this time they were wreaking havoc in that small town to the north. I tell folks at least with tornadoes we have a warning. I have been in earthquakes in St. Louis, MO; Snohomish, WA; and Okinawa - NO Warning! I like to have a clue my devils are lurking nearby.

Gotta keep those pews full to meet the budget.

HippieChick58 replies on Apr 8, 2020:
@Marionville From Wikipedia: Etymology: The word halitosis is derived from the Latin word halitus, meaning 'breath', and the Greek suffix -osis meaning 'diseased' or 'a condition of'. With modern consumerism, there has been a complex interplay of advertising pressures and the existing evolutionary aversion to malodor. Contrary to the popular belief that Listerine coined the term halitosis, its origins date to before the product's existence, being coined by physician Joseph William Howe in his 1874 book The Breath, and the Diseases Which Give It a Fetid Odor, although it only became commonly used in the 1920s when a marketing campaign promoted Listerine as a solution for "chronic halitosis". The company was the first to manufacture mouth washes in the United States. According to Freakonomics: Listerine "...was invented in the nineteenth century as powerful surgical antiseptic. It was later sold, in distilled form, as both a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea. But it wasn't a runaway success until the 1920s, when it was pitched as a solution for "chronic halitosis"— a then obscure medical term for bad breath. Listerine's new ads featured forlorn young women and men, eager for marriage but turned off by their mate's rotten breath. "Can I be happy with him in spite of that?" one maiden asked herself. Until that time, bad breath was not conventionally considered such a catastrophe, but Listerine changed that. As the advertising scholar James B. Twitchell writes, "Listerine did not make mouthwash as much as it made halitosis." In just seven years, the company's revenues rose from $115,000 to more than $8 million."[42] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_breath

@dalefvictor I dated a guy a few years ago (one date only) that had two long haired kitties that were just covered in mats and he didn't seem to care. The cats "belonged to his daughter". The condo he lived in also REEKED of litter box. That was a deal breaker in itself. The other deal breaker was his hobby was nudism, he liked to be naked. And that was ALL he talked about.

We are told to wipe down our desks first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I rarely remember to. Washing hands, I don't notice, but I think everyone is. HippieChick58 replies on Mar 26, 2020:
I can't give you the graphs but here is the rest: President Trump says he wants the United States “raring to go” in two and a half weeks, on Easter, with “packed churches all over our country.” He and many other political conservatives suggest that we are responding to something like the flu with remedies that may be more devastating than the disease. We created this interactive model with epidemiologists to show why quickly returning to normal could be a historic mistake that would lead to an explosion of infections, hospitalizations and deaths. Instead, health experts advise giving current business closures and social distancing a month to slow the pandemic, buying time to roll out mass testing and equip doctors with protective equipment. Then, depending on where we are, we can think about easing up — while prepared for a new burst of infections that will then require a new clampdown. Using the length of time you chose, the model suggests that 126.5 million people could contract the coronavirus across the United States between January and late October (with 37.8 million at the peak on June 5). More than 1.3 million people would die under these conditions and 125 million people would recover. Tweak the settings, and these numbers will change. These numbers offer a false precision, for we don’t understand Covid-19 well enough to model it exactly. But they do suggest the point that epidemiologists are making: For all the yearning for a return to normalcy, that is risky so long as a virus is raging and we are unprotected. “Anyone advising the end of social distancing now needs to fully understand what the country will look like if we do that,” cautioned Dr. Tom Inglesby, a health security expert at Johns Hopkins University. “Covid would spread widely, rapidly, terribly, and could kill potentially millions in the year ahead, with huge social and economic impact.” [During these extraordinary times, Opinion columnists and writers will be going live on Twitter every weekday at 1 p.m. Eastern to chat with viewers. Join Nicholas Kristof on Thursday: @NickKristof.] A skeptic will note that these measures don’t seem to prevent a surge in infections so much as delay them (in some cases so that the impact is pushed beyond the period that this model tracks). There’s something to that: We may see a resurgence whenever we let up, at least until we have a vaccine or herd immunity. Yet social distancing still is beneficial in two ways. First, we can use the time to buttress hospitals and test treatments. Second, interventions can flatten the curve and spread infections over a longer period of time, so that the health care system does not become overwhelmed. Whatever we do, the pain of both disease and business and school closures ...
