HippieChick58 comments on May 5, 2022:
One of the local gyms has been running some really good special price memberships, I had a membership there when I was unemployed by choice a few years ago (I was taking care of family member after surgery). Aside from not having the time to go to the gym now, I remember too many folks watching Fox News on the TVs in the gym last time I was there. I won't go back. I exercise at home, and as soon as the weather stabilizes I will be outside for walks again, at least until it gets too hot.

I was there for training, I asked for the training and the only way to get it was in person so I bit the bullet. We had pretty good social distancing most of the time. Today I was back at home all day and I don't miss the office at all. I am quite the introvert. I don't think we're really out of the woods for COVID yet. I am very glad you're recovered.

HippieChick58 comments on May 1, 2022:
Are you looking for advice or just venting? Not everyone is going to be partnered, it doesn't mean you can't have a life of meaning. And just because you're in a relationship doesn't mean you'll be happy or that your life will have meaning. You find meaning in your life by making it meaningful. If you don't want advice stop reading. My advice is to get involved with those less fortunate than you. Work with underprivileged kids, or with the elderly. They don't care about the man boobs or the looks. If you don't want to deal with people your humane society always needs volunteers. And then there is the AHA or American Humanists Association that may or may not have a chapter in your area: https://americanhumanist.org/get-involved/find-or-start-a-chapter/ I am not familiar with North Carolina but there are a couple of chapters in the Raleigh area, and I think that is close to you. The last bit of advice I have for you is: People don't change until the pain of being the same is greater than the pain of changing. Are you in enough pain to make the changes that need to be made? Only you can decide what your are willing to do. One of the treatments for depression is to be physically active. That will help the man boobs too. Get connected to some community somehow. Helping others will help you. We all die alone, even if we're surrounded by others, it is a very solitary experience. While your living make your life count by helping others. You've taken a good first step, you've asked for help. Keep the momentum going.

I took a baby spider plant and another plant to Germany with me in the 80's. I don't know if that was allowed or not. I put them in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel in the pocket of my coat. I was active duty Army, and I think I was on a MAC flight. After I got to Germany I went to a garden center and bought pots and potting soil. That was a crazy trip, I spoke no German and had asked someone in my building which busses to take. It's a miracle I survived. However, the plants did great and no one ever asked where they came from. I left them in Germany when I returned to the states, don't even remember what I did with them. I have had Xmas cactus, loved them and used to have many houseplants. My current house doesn't get good sunlight and I have katzen, so I don't have as many plants.

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 26, 2022:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disjecta_membra Disjecta membra, also written disiecta membra, is Latin for "scattered fragments" (also scattered limbs, members, or remains) and is used to refer to surviving fragments of ancient poetry, manuscripts, and other literary or cultural objects, including even fragments of ancient pottery. It is derived from disiecti membra poetae, a phrase used by Horace, a Roman poet.[1]

HippieChick58 comments on Apr 25, 2022:
This is why my kitty girls are inside only. When I was a teenager we had a cat that went outside. One day while I was sick at home, thoroughly wrapped up in my covers, my stepmother let my cat into the house not noticing that Cocoa had a bird in her mouth. She proceeded to hop on up on my bed and start to eat said bird. I kicked my feet and knocked the birdie off the bed and grabbed Miss Cocoa by the tail, and hollered for a parent's assistance. My dad heard my hollers and sent the step up. She grabbed bird carcas and took it to the covered trash can. Kitty girl tried to find the birdie and had not luck. She came back and set on the foot of my bed and scolded me! She was a Siamese and quite a talker. She got over it, and I've never forgotten. I don't know what you will ever be able to do with the cat coming in and out the doggie door.

Euxinia noun anoxia, or depletion of oxygen, in a body of water, along with a high level of ...
HippieChick58 comments on Apr 24, 2022:
I am familiar with anoxia, I've never seen it as Euxinia, so I Googled it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euxinia#:~:text=Euxinia%20or%20euxinic%20conditions%20occur,have%20anoxic%2C%20sulfidic%20bottom%20water. Euxinia or euxinic conditions occur when water is both anoxic and sulfidic. This means that there is no oxygen (O2) and a raised level of free hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Euxinic bodies of water are frequently strongly stratified, have an oxic, highly productive, thin surface layer, and have anoxic, sulfidic bottom water. The word euxinia is derived from the Greek name for the Black Sea (Εá½”ξεινος ΠÏŒντος (Euxeinos Pontos)) which translates to "hospitable sea".[1] Euxinic deep water is a key component of the Canfield ocean, a model of oceans during the Proterozoic period (known as the Boring Billion) proposed by Donald Canfield, an American geologist, in 1998.[2] There is still debate within the scientific community on both the duration and frequency of euxinic conditions in the ancient oceans.[3] Euxinia is relatively rare in modern bodies of water, but does still happen in places like the Black Sea and certain fjords.
