Doesn’t sound typical for a hospital to do this. Ignore the notices and just call them. Ask to speak with someone in America.
HippieChick58 replies on Nov 15, 2019:
@darthfaja All I can speak for is my hospital. If you are not on a formal payment plan and you have not paid the balance in several months it will be looked at by collections. My billing software allows me to set up a payment plan. When that is in the account and payments are being made timely, it will not go to collections. If it is not a formal payment plan, the account is noted but a plan is not set up, it could well go to collections after 3 or so months.

Both the cat and dog are gone now, the kids are grown up with kids of their own, and I work full time.

I can't say it was a great benefit to have lived longer. She had paid for private health insurance for years, she didn't have one job that provided it. She worked 3 part time jobs most of her life. @CommonHuman Well, the Army did send us to Ft. Polk, Louisiana. Not a garden spot. I saw firsthand the southern mindset, and I don't like to deal with those folks, I shed no tears as I drove north. I've been to Topeka, I used to live in Overland Park. I was told Topeka was the armpit of the state. I didn't think it was that bad, but it has been 15 or more years since I moved.

@CommonHuman I did walk out of a class once, the instructor had majorly pissed me off, I don't remember why. He did ask something about why I was leaving and I tossed off something about a family emergency. I was a non traditional student; I was over 45 and had teenagers, so it was plausible. I could have gotten some trouble, and I did fill out the class assessment and was harsh but honest. I don't even remember what class it was. He taught to the first two rows, and the rest of the classroom was ignored. I think I have had a quite unusual and full life.

@WonderWartHog99 Personally, I don't like the feel of plastic spoons in my mouth. I carry my lunch to work every day and usually have something that is neater to eat with a spoon. I use one of my stainless spoons, only plastic if I forget to pack the real stuff. And yes, I cart it all back home at the end of the day and wash and reuse. I do have a drawer full of plastic utensils, they might get used with grandbabies, or anytime I expect I would need to toss it. Son in law used a plastic fork to pick a lock for me a few months ago, the tines got broken off. I think all the plastic I have has also been washed and reused a few times. I want to keep that crap out of the landfills and oceans.
