If all religion ended tomorrow, what do you think would happen to all the churches, etc.?
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 22, 2019:
Some would make good community centers, schools, or homeless shelters. Or food kitchens. Or theaters. I'd rather not see them torn down for the most part, but repurposed.
I have a question -- I recently met a nice, middle-aged woman close to my age (I'm 65) on the bus.
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 22, 2019:
Ya know, my own experience is that so many people have episodes of depression it is practically pandemic. I think there are some angry people out there who have underlying depression. I'd say depression is like toenail fungus. You have it, you treat it as needed, you go on with life. If someone chooses not to get to know you because of it, it is their loss. BUT make sure you're not letting it stop you.
I don't think that I am asking too much.
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 22, 2019:
Yes, that is what I want. I am not sure it exists.

Families Go Deep in Debt to Stay in the Middle Class - WSJ
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 21, 2019:
The American middle class is falling deeper into debt to maintain a middle-class lifestyle. Cars, college, houses and medical care have become steadily more costly, but incomes have been largely stagnant for two decades, despite a recent uptick. Filling the gap between earning and spending is an explosion of finance into nearly every corner of the consumer economy. Consumer debt, not counting mortgages, has climbed to $4 trillion—higher than it has ever been even after adjusting for inflation. Mortgage debt slid after the financial crisis a decade ago but is rebounding. Student debt totaled about $1.5 trillion last year, exceeding all other forms of consumer debt except mortgages. Auto debt is up nearly 40% adjusting for inflation in the last decade to $1.3 trillion. And the average loan for new cars is up an inflation-adjusted 11% in a decade, to $32,187, according to an analysis of data from credit-reporting firm Experian. Unsecured personal loans are back in vogue, the result of competition between technology-savvy lenders and big banks for borrowers and loan volume. The debt surge is partly by design, a byproduct of low borrowing costs the Federal Reserve engineered after the financial crisis to get the economy moving. It has reshaped both borrowers and lenders. Consumers increasingly need it, companies increasingly can’t sell their goods without it, and the economy, which counts on consumer spending for more than two-thirds of GDP, would struggle without a plentiful supply of credit. Changing Portfolio Mortgage balances have accounted for more than two-thirds of U.S. household debt since 2003 but other balances such as auto loans have been growing quickly in recent years. Nonhousing consumer debt surged by $1 trillion in real terms between 2013 and 2019 while housing debt increased by just half that. Sources: Wall Street Journal analysis of New York Federal Reserve's Consumer Credit Panel data; U.S. Federal Reserve's consumer credit data (credit cards) In one sense, the growing consumer debt is a vote of confidence in the future. People borrowing money today expect to have the income tomorrow to pay it back. Consumer debt tends to rise when borrowers feel secure in their jobs. But the debt pile is also an accumulated ledger of economic risk. It should be manageable so long as unemployment remains low. If job losses begin to rise, it would become unsustainable for some share of borrowers, raising chances of an increase in missed payments and lenders writing off unpaid balances. The Fed lowered interest rates on Wednesday because it sees rising risks of a slowdown that could boost unemployment. I've figured out that not everyone has to like me, and if what I say disturbs someone's peace they need to do what they need to do. And I also do what I need to do to preserve my own peace. The only reason I might need to know if someone has blocked me is I have several groups and I need to see what is posted in my group. However most folks who block me don't wanna be in my groups either, so it is all cool. I try to live and let live.

"Maybe You Don’t Know What Love Is" -- on conditional vs.
HippieChick58 comments on Sep 14, 2019:
This is a good article. I've been used a time or two, so I'm maybe hyper alert for "conditions." They weren't always bad conditions, but I wasn't willing to accept the conditions. It wasn't building towards a more fulfilling relationship so I ended it. I had a gentleman who only wanted to come over and watch TV, it was Downton Abby. He was going out with friends and visiting family but he only wanted me for Downton Abby. Not much of any conversation or anything, just watch TV. I wanted more, he didn't, I ended it. It comes down to I want to be with someone who wants to be with me just because we like to be with each other. No conditions, no parameters. We just enjoy each other.
We have had a lot of rain this year.
